On the tires, I did tape them to keep swelling down. Plans are to balance them, but I haven't yet.

I have found the maxx trucks to be weak also, but this is my attempt at making one that is more bullet proof.

Hybrid Bulks were in the plan, so I order Revo Spec diffs to rob the intrals from.

When I opened the Diffs, I see that Traxxas has changed the bearing sizes. The Ring side bearing is much bigger and beefier now. So the Intrals won't fit the bulks.

I've always found the Arms and the Shock Towers to be the weak. Thus RPM replacements for those.

Yes, I agree. The Stock shocks need to go. They are on the list for replacement.

I've been debating on motor choice.

How would that work in this? Gear it for about 50mph and put it on 8S?

Revo spec diffs won't work in the Hybrid bulks, you need real 1/8 scale diff ( Ofna, hotbodies, LST2 ) internals.

1/8 buggy front shocks would work well, though I'm not sure how much adjust ability you would have with the RPM suspension & fixed shock towers ( only one mounting point )- buggy shocks for slammed suspension, truggy for off-roading / jacked up suspension.

The 36/60 would be too small, that is a good buggy motor, IMO. The big wheels and tires will put too much load on it, plus i doubt this truck will be light.

The hybrid bulks use ofna or similar diffs.

Rpm arms and towers are a good idea, especially if you are using al bulks.

I think truggy front shocks would be the way to go, need something around 4 inches long if memory serves me correctly.

I fit the intrals of one of the older revo spec diffs, and it fit just fine.

It has the smaller bearings, but I wanted brand new stuff.

Watts = amps x volts

Watts is the measure of total horsepower. It is Total Amp draw that makes or breaks a motors efficiency.

I want to try the 36-60 in this on 8S.

I remember this motor on 4S and it snapped 4 of the Traxxas Drive Shafts in about 8 runs. Alot of Torque.

I also remember running 2 - 4S 4000mah packs using a parallel adapter feeding a MMM Esc.

One day I accidently grabbed a series adapter.........the ESC armed and away we went.

Geared something silly, like 22/40, I seen the truck do a backflip at about 30mph when I grabbed WOT.

The setup survived. LOL Of course, I stopped the run, realizing what I had done.

Well FLM included the wrong drive cups in the chassis package that have a 5mm ID. They won't fit the 6mm transmission output shaft.

So..........while they get that mess straightened out, there is time to play around with other ideas.

The main idea is to keep this truck low, with the center of gravity as low as possible.

One thing that helps stability, is the overall length and width of the truck.

I added wheel extenders to the setup which increases width by around 3 inches.

How durable will they be? hmmm..........we'll see. Thoughts?

Such wide extenders with stock hubs... You will blow your bearings on the first run.

extenders are for shelf queens, just an all around bad idea otherwise:yes:

I tend to aggree with RC Toy though. Aluminum Knuckles aren't a bad idea.

The hub of a wheel is centered over the knuckle for a reason. It keeps all of the force on the bearings rotational. Offset wheels are a better idea.

The extenders act just like levers putting unwanted stress on the bearings.

Additionally, the length from the knuckle exaggerates any wheel imbalance.

It's just not the ideal way to widen a truck.

Now that I did, I tend to aggree with you.

Another thing I don't like about the extenders, it seems to affect the turning radius. It turns alot wider.

It also seems to be a strain on the steering servos.

I did install a pair of high torque servos, but with the extenders, at a standing stop, the servos overpower the servo saver and the wheels barely turn to the left or the right.

A real downside for me. I don't like that at all.

The only good thing it does, is help keep the truck planted on all fours.

The extenders are coming off the truck.

On a brighter note, I did take it for a run.

I installed the Medusa 36-60-1500kv and geared it 18/52 using Mod 1 gears.

Then on 8S, this spins it up to around 45000rpm's.

This little motor comes to life on 8S. It has alot of power. It got a little warm during the times when I was cracking the throttle wide open. It just screams though.

Maybe I love a tight slipper a little too much because it twisted the yoke off the front differential.

Why the front? I don't know. I found the drive cup with the yoke still installed inside, but I lost the front dog bone! :whip:

I'll find it tomorrow, I hope.

The Mamba XL is a SWEET Esc. It did not break a sweat.

I also logged the run, which is really cool.

Top Watts was 2133 watts!

Max amps pulled was 76 amps.

Max ESC temp peaked at 120 degrees, which isn't bad at all.
