i thought i was the only cheapo around?? i have been trying out one of these my self. im running it on my revo with a neu 1515 2.5 on 6 s , so far its working . but on the third hard pass it blew my tranny. but by the pictures yours looks different, ??? yours looks like it has more caps than mine ?? my esc has 2 - 35 volt 220 uf

your looks like it has more than 2 ?

snellemin 01.25.2008 06:29 PM

Yea, I added the caps in myself, which are 330uF 35V.

I had two suggestion today for replacement fets.

Fairchild FDP8860 and IRL3713.

Current fets are IRL3803. Any of you guys know which of the above would be a better choice?

nice, a $50 esc on a $300 motor:mdr: glad to hear its working though.

suicideneil 01.25.2008 10:26 PM

I reckon GriffinRU would know which fets are the better choice- can you look up the specs on digikey?

snellemin 01.25.2008 10:27 PM

Yea, just type in IRL3808 in digikey.

yes i know thats bad but by all the post of people complaining about quarks and mgm esc ., i said why not try it ?

magudaman 01.26.2008 01:18 AM

wow that seems like a hell of a deal. $105 to your door for a brushless system for an emaxx. Heck I would be willing to risk it. It is pretty nice they are using to-220 fets those are easy to replace.

tashpop 01.26.2008 11:00 AM

i plan on getting one, but i'm waiting for snellemin to work out all the bugs in his first.

I would try one of the following:

IRF2804 (Just seems to be a monster of a FET and it has lower resistance and 40 volts to be on the safe side)
IRF2903Z (Same voltage as the stock unit, but lower resistance and 20A less than the above mentioned)

snellemin 01.26.2008 04:41 PM

Thanks Lutach!

Are you guys also looking at switching speeds? High current, high voltage, and low resistance is only part of it. And, make sure it's an enhancement type (not a depletion type)...

Yeah and not every kind of driver can drive those Fet's

torqeroll 01.26.2008 10:59 PM

this is getting good , i beat mine up some more today and its still holding up no problems.

I will agree with Lutach, IRF2804 is a good choice. (IRF1404 not bad also)<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
IRL3803 is not a stella performer, but cheap.
The only place I would worry is boost-charge capacitor, replacement FET's have higher gate capacitance by 10-15% and require more charge.
But in general with T0-220 package you cannot draw more than 75A from FET, so the lower Rdon in this case better.
Just do not short FET's mounting/heatsinking tabs!

Looks like the ebay seller is no longer carrying them. Anyone know where else we can pick one of these babies up?
