Yes as you says its down to the size of the gear v's the angle of the shafts, I found the 56t to be just about right, i had to file the edges of the braces just a little bit but its enough to keep the angle of the shafts not too steep. Plus 10 51 meant that there weren't enough teeth in contact, the 10 pinion was too small a gear with this power, it would rip the teeth off the spur. so 12/56 gave a better contact patch between the gears. Ideal would be something like 14/65 but the spur would be too massive to fit in.

Slipperential is the key Ryan.. :p

And you can always use blue-tac... LOL

coolhandcountry 09.19.2006 01:02 PM

Hey ryan. have you consider going to the hb diffs in thefront and back. It would gear you down and take some pressure off the spur. The 56 12 gearing 4.66 ratio with the 3.31 diffs. You could accually go to the hb 4.3 diffs and run a 14 51 geating. No more modding the spurs to fit you system.

Serum 09.19.2006 01:19 PM

He is too much in love with his UE 8-spiders.. I tried talking him into the HB's some time back, but somehow he isn't falling for it...

Sneeck 09.19.2006 01:34 PM

1 word Ryan;

Custom

Chassis

neweuser 09.19.2006 01:48 PM

Hey sneeck, isn't that two words? LOL :)

aqwut 09.19.2006 05:43 PM

You're truck looks nicer every year man.... very cool...:)

Candyman2 09.19.2006 05:50 PM

I was thinking about making a chassis from scratch, but then lost interest a bit. The truck s strong and reliable, I run it when I like and dont want to fool around with it anymore. Ive moved onto other projects now, I might come back to it but not anytime soon.

Your 66/13 and 2nd gear gives you about a 9 to 1 gearing ratio. the 56/10 slipper/pinion would give you a 5.6 to 1..

Stock diffs are 37/13 and the HB diffs are 43/10, meaning your total gearingratio now would be something like 25 to 1 .With the slipper (56/10) with HB diffs would give you an 24 to 1

with stock diffs and the slipper, that would be like 16 to 1.

My word of advice; if you want awesome runtime and speed from your hv-maxx get a 4S lipo setup! you'll love it.

hey serum dude..thanks for doing the figures for me...its the numbers thing that scares me all the time...so i always do the "slap it on and see if it smokes" method of finding gear ratios...haha. thanks for saving me the hassle and sleepless nights.

lipos?? i wish dude, but current state i'm in, i'm lucky i dun have to sell of my RCs.......

wow! never thought of "contact patch" that you mentioned!! imagine ripping the teeth of the spur!! yikes!!!!

so i guess all this brings me to this.....

since ...
i wont be buying a new BL system...(anytime soon that is)

and
i dun wanna butcher my nice Gmaxx chassis....

me thinks me leave the emaxx tranny in there for now and use the dom slipper for another project!!!!

thanks guys! many thanks for clearing up my Qs....

hey dude, sorry to disappoint, but i wont be able to go this route for the reasons mentioned.....

but......

i have other plans afoot....haha

Candyman2 10.25.2008 07:05 AM

Cant believe its been 2 years since my last post in this thread! well lets start with a bang!

Slight short out problem, first time I have run 18 cells, I was a little concerned the schulze was going to pop and when I saw the smoke I thought it was toast. Turns out the washers holding the velcro down had worked through the heatshrink on the cells, better than the speedo going :yipi:

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/156.JPG

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/157.JPG

I machined up some end blocks to hold everything in place a bit better and even managed to find 2 more cells with similar figures to rebuild the pack!

http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/158.JPG

Not a lot else has changed on the truck, pretty much as it was, switched the airtronics 200 oz/in servo for a hitec 333 oz/in, much better.

I just got back from running it, clutch was slipping a bit too much maybe it glazed over? anyway I will upload video later on :mdr:

DRIFT_BUGGY 10.25.2008 07:15 AM

2 Years :oh: I don't think I have ever had the same RC for 2 years. Unlucky with the battery. What run time do you get with all those cells? http://www.nitroaddicts.com/forums/i...ed/rctruck.gif

_paralyzed_ 10.25.2008 07:21 AM

I'm glad to see you're back Candyman. Maxx Bling was the inspiration for my e-maxx addiction, and I've built several since I started this hobby. You do awesome work, I especially like your custom chassis solid axle trucks. Keep up the stellar work!

Yeah, I always wanted to get an Emaxx and it was becuase of this one. I use to have a fair few photos on my computer of it but all gone after I got the virus and had to reload windows

jordan... 10.25.2008 08:59 AM

Nice to see some updates Candyman, Maxx Bling was definately one of the inspirations of my build. Its the first time ive ever noticed you have the rear upper plate cut out as well, and here i was thinking i was the first

suicideneil 10.25.2008 09:08 AM

This truck was my inspiration too largely, though I never did bother with a single central motor mount in the end, too much hassle. Liking the battery stops, those look rather nifty

Buy some lipos though- get the zippies, cheap and awesome specs- you'll be blown away by the power and speed compared to those old nimhs...

TruckBasher 10.25.2008 09:37 AM

Ryan your maxx was the inspiration of my Maxx1...I did try to contact you about 2years ago but it was about your brushless juggernaut.....

Nice to see this is still running great....sad to hear bout the short

Candyman2 10.25.2008 08:33 PM

Thanks guys :yipi:

Short vid of this mornings run, you can hear the slipping unfourtunatly I didnt have any tools with me.

TruckBasher 10.25.2008 08:40 PM

Still looking great....this is fast for a NiMH power brushless

Hope to see the new setup (if you did change anything)

Hijack: How is the brushless Juggernaut?

gone, I put the motors in the emaxx originall and sold the truck off, it was a it of a test bed really.

The cells last a good 10 minutes but they are not as good as the IB4200 I have. Speedo thermalled as I was pushing it a bit so I have finally installed a fan  it was a tight squeeze but it just fits!

TruckBasher 10.26.2008 07:28 AM

Whoah I wish I was that guy who bought that juggy....

How are the fans doing? Have they reduced the ESC thermal shutdown? Hope to see vids soon...

plettenbergs 10.26.2008 08:21 AM

nice truck candyman.that is my kind of ride.i like UE also!!http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/n...s/DSC01373.jpg
http://s302.photobucket.com/albums/n...=EMaxximum.flv

Candyman2 10.26.2008 08:52 AM

Truckbasher : Not sure, should be ok, im running a resistor in line with the fan so it drops 22volts to 12v, so the fan is at full speed. I only fitted it last night, tightened the clutch too will hopefully run it again soon weather permitting :)

Plettenbergs : Hey saw your trucks the other day, who did you get that chassis off? I remember seeing it before years ago but I cant remeber who made it.

suicideneil 10.26.2008 08:55 AM

Its just so damn nimble compared to most other Emaxxes- on tarmac, most other trucks would've rolled doing those slides and 360s.

Candyman2 10.26.2008 01:26 PM

yeh, i was surprised when I drove it how well it handled. I spent a long time fine tuning the suspension and weight distribution but i'd forgotten all about that as its been so long. if it gets sideways you can power slide it or add opposite lock to catch it which feels odd with such a big truck.

plettenbergs 10.26.2008 03:33 PM

Hey candyman...i have the DirectDrive emaxx chassis at the CNC shop now for production!...there will be 2 versions#1)UE VBS bulkless version and #2)standard emaxx bulkhead version...there will be 12 ready in a week or so to begin with, lincpimp and I will be testing/bashing the first two BL prototypes!!

I finally dropped the NimH batts and you should switch to lipo also!....i get full hour of run time with 2 4800 18.5 volt batts:gasp:

This should be fun!!!!

Candyman2 11.09.2008 03:47 PM

It actually stopped raining long enough for me to get outside! :yipi: Which I was over the moon about having spent the previous day re building the clutch and fitting a new spur gear (not easy, it needs turning down on a lathe to fit).

Much better on these cells (ib4200's) more than enough power really, only problem was my gear came loose :(

Candymans Maxx Bling - November 2008 - hires.wmv

note 4wd drifts and slides, that was 1 minute of pure fun.

suicideneil 11.09.2008 05:06 PM

Slipper adjustment is such a fine art...

... I said screw it, locked the slipper up solid (after my 3905 upgrade broke) and built a 6" long wheelie bar to keep the truck on all fours... :mdr:

Does handle beautifully that truck, I need to get some of those tyres one day.

TruckBasher 11.09.2008 08:17 PM

I still love watching your MAXX still looks great...Your modification was the reason I went for a slipper setup but I couldn't fabricate it so I just bought Mike's slipperential

Gee 11.09.2008 10:00 PM

That is nice! I noticed the bullet connectors soldered onto the batteries themselves. Looks like a good idea.

Candyman2 11.16.2008 06:53 AM

Managed to squeeze the servo under the prop shaft and turn the linkage upsidown, much neater now.

I can't believe it, really, it boggles the mind. Maxx bling already has a 50 page spread in history, and now, my god, it is even better! That servo mod is sick! I mean twisted! I should expect no less from your work, but wow!
BADASS CANDYMAN!

BL_RV0 11.16.2008 11:07 AM

Very nice. That servo layout is very clean. I love it!

Candyman2 12.13.2008 10:11 AM

I've never liked the 1 cell ontop of the 8 so I made a new chassis plate so I can lay 9 flat on each side.
