I run the 1515 1/y on 4s and 5s. 3s on one side, and 2s on the other. 5s isn't totally crazy, but definitly faster and more power. It runs a tad warmer as stated above too, so I would not reccommend driving it in 100* weather.

Will Mike's Diff adaptors work with the UE 1/8th diffs?

suicideneil 01.03.2008 11:32 AM

Im not 100% certain, but assuming the output spider gears attach to the output shafts the same way as the HB diffs, they should do. The bearings are all the same size, so they should be okay in theory.

mkrusedc 01.19.2008 07:24 PM

Finally found the time to finish!! Initial run was great the extended chassis handles totally different the the OE one. The UE shocks felt great. I'll give it a good shake down tomorrow after a full charge.

ilpufxit 01.19.2008 07:31 PM

Can you really do that?

I didn't know you can mis-match lipo's like that. If that's true, it opens up lots of new voltage possibilities.

As long as the packs are made of the same cells, and are the same age with the same number of cycles on them you should be ok. I run my tekno revo on 5s 5000mah lipos, 1 2s pack and 1 3s pack in series to make 5s. Works fine for me!

mkrusedc 01.20.2008 03:26 PM

Finally ran it today and...

The new buggy diffs with 52/17 gearing slowed me down a little from ~38mph to 35mph. Also with the extra weight and extended chassis no wheelies. Looks like I won't need the wheelie bar.

I am going to try 52/20 gearing which should get me close to 40 mph.

Oh, and I forgot about getting a body to fit the extended chassis. guess that is next.

mkrusedc 01.27.2008 05:50 PM

Just got back form bashing!!

The extended chassis handles like a dream. It is much more stable. I never landed on my lid going over jumps today. (Thanks DickyT) The UE shocks were great only bottoming out on huge air. Almost never rolled it in powerslides and donuts. (Thanks RC Shocker and DiscusDave).

As far as temps were, I did not even bother taking them. After 30+ minutes of bashing everything was slightly warm to touch. Ambient temp was in the mid 50s.

I did have a problem though under full throttle the esc shut down. If I applied throttle slowly I could reach top speed, but when applied quickly the truck would shut down. Does anyone have any ideas? I have the MGM160/18 on all default settings except for Lipo "cuttoff" instead of "slow down". Could it be cutting off under maximum draw? Is the problem with my batts?

jnev 01.27.2008 06:14 PM

My only guess for the power cutting off would be the voltage drop of the batteries under hard acceleration triggering the LVC.

Glad you're enjoying the truck. Get some video at your next bash!!

MetalMan 01.27.2008 06:35 PM

Yep, like jnev said. You have the MGM set to hard cutoff (where it stops sending power to the motor), and you should try it set for soft cutoff (what MGM calls "reduce RPM" or something like that).

mkrusedc 01.27.2008 07:28 PM

Next question for the group.

I am currently running 4s. Should I buy a 5s pack or another 2s TrackPower pack? What would you do?

david lamontagn 01.27.2008 08:33 PM

5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, 5s, .:intello:

Did i say 5s????????:oh:

Just go Play 01.27.2008 11:13 PM

If your not getting enough speed running the 4s that setup runs very nice on 5s.

Fitting a 5s with the dual motor mount may be tight or possibly require some trimming. I have not tried fitting my 5s on the Emaxx but the way the Trakpowers sit under the motor mount it does not look like it would fit.

mkrusedc 01.27.2008 11:21 PM

What 5s battery would you all suggest?

BTW, Thanks changing the cutoff to reduce RPM stopped the problem.

david lamontagn 01.28.2008 12:32 AM

Flightpower EVO25, 4350mAh, 5s, this will be my next pack for my revo.

mkrusedc 04.13.2008 09:41 PM

Before I got the 5s batt I thought I would check top speed.

weight 10.5 pounds
Neu 1515 1y
two 2s1p Trakpower lipo
3906 single speed conversion
Revo Talons
1/8 scale buggy diffs
51/20 gearing
Highest speed 33.2 mph

The same setup as above but with my old 3906 diffs (yes I put them back in to see how much the 1/8s slowed me down)
Highest speed 38.4 mph

The very first run I did was my original setup, but instead of the Talons I had the OE Chevrons and my highest speed was 31.4 mph.

Next 5s power..........

jordan... 04.14.2008 05:36 AM

nice work! hopefully you'll be able to break 45, or even 50 with 5s! do you have any pics of your truck with the Tango body, i remember you had one on the way a little while ago

oh, and what i said on the TRX forum:

mkrusedc 04.14.2008 09:07 AM

Great idea Jordan. Does it matter that the 3s pack would be new and probably a different manufacturer?

jordan... 04.14.2008 09:13 AM

im not too sure on this, but i think as long as the mah and the C ratings are the same it should be ok. DON'T take my word for it though, im just guessing

Maybe one of the lipo gurus could chime in

If that is true finding a 3s in 4900 mAh is going to be hard to find.

xcntrk 04.14.2008 12:00 PM

I didn’t read this whole thread; but don’t you have some vids jumping a levee around New Orleans? That truck in the vid is super-quick!!!!

Yes but that was with a plastic chassis and OE diffs. The speed would have been just closer to 40 mph.

The 33 mph is with an FLM chassis, hybrid bulks and 1/8 scale buggy diffs.

Why don't you just gear it back up to 40mph? Have you still not tried to modify the motor mount plate to fit bigger pinions?
It's better to keep batteries used together the same age and use or at least fairly close. Otherwise they could go out of balance easier and the old pack may go below the cutoff voltage while the new pack is still above, so the old pack may be over drawn.
Flightpower does does make 3s 4900's, so they it shouldn't be a problem to get. You could even split a 6s 4900 in half to have two sets of 3s to use with your trakpowers, which is exactly what I've done. Easier to buy 2 3s's though. Funny thing is that the 6s pack is only $5 more than the 5s pack.
Trakpower now has the 3s 4900 hard case packs as well, but I don't really like the wire setup than is shown in the pics. Are your 2s packs the 20c or 25c versions.

Ok, saw the other thread. I wouldn't mix c ratings.

mkrusedc 04.15.2008 11:36 AM

Thanks Patrick. I was hoping you would post. It would be less expensive 1 pinion versus two 3s packs...hmmm....

mkrusedc 05.25.2008 08:02 PM

Updates...

The upgrades made the truck so tough that I have not been posting much just lurking, bashing and having fun. The most damage was a few bodies, lost a bunch of body clips, and pulled out the antenna tube but that was about it. Here is the latest:

That looks more like an MMM than a MGM. :mdr:

TexasSP 05.26.2008 11:56 AM

Neil just remember that southern american fathers are all heavily armed.

Although I know the marrying age in Louisiana is fairly low two so that could be a bit of a quandary. :diablo:

Just jacking with both of ya! :na:

mk, e is looking nice with the monster in there. I wish my monster was here working, it is a cruel joke for it to work so well then die. Made me fell all empty inside. :gasp:

mkrusedc 05.26.2008 12:05 PM

I'll make you feel a little better.

So I take my Monster Neu out for it's maiden run and like everyone has said it is powerful, cool and as smooth as glass until.....

I am going through a powerslide on concrete and the truck slams to a halt, like it hit a wall. I know I did not have the brakes set that hard and I was not applying brake so I started thinking of DickyT.... I walked over to the truck...no smoke but still no power. Well that is good I think. I pop the lid off and @#$&% the on off switch wires are caught between the pinion and spur gear .

Jeesh what a noob. So far not Castle's error just mine for not being careful.

killermmn 05.26.2008 06:28 PM

mk do you still buy the erevo??

mkrusedc 05.26.2008 10:20 PM

I have it pre-ordered through Tower. I plan on using 6s and the MMM. I may sell the MGM for another MMM.

TDC57 05.27.2008 01:17 AM

Hay mkrusedc,
That’s a great build you have going there, I've watched several of your vids and have always been extremely impressed with your build.. The new body is Cool Looking!! how is the MMM holding up??.

Thanks for your time and have a great one..

Shaun.

P.S.
what trans are you using the 3905 or the 3906?? if it's the 3906 you can buy an adaptor plate for the 3905 from Mike for like 17.00 for that FLM chassis..

Buzzsaw46 05.27.2008 02:14 AM

Ya that's a nice truck MK! Hope to get mine that sharp someday.

I just put hybrids and Hyper 8.5 diffs in my 3905 and it seems to have made the truck handle much better than before. The rest of the truck is stock with a Neu 1512/2.5D/MM/5s A123/AE 52t spur/20t pinion,(not quite stock I guess) speed calc says 31mph but I have been radar gunned at 40+.

I was putting a whoopin' on my buddies O.S.18CV-RX T-maxx today, he had a MPH or 2 on me but couldn't keep up through the corners. He was also breaking in a new LRP.28 spec 3 on his Savage with a 3 speed, it was FAST and still a bit rich. No way that truck will corner with my E but I dont know if I can hold him off in the straights, need my Monster so I can go 6s:yes:

http://s287.photobucket.com/albums/l...rent=Movie.flv

Differant motor but geared about the same as it is now but the Neu is a bit stronger through the midrange than the Medusa in the video.

suicideneil 05.27.2008 10:40 AM

13? Thats only... 12 years younger than me.... Never mind.

Thanks for the compliment. The tranny is a 3906 with GorillaMax single speed conversion, steel idler gear and input roll pin mod.

Thanks for the compliment. What shocks are you running? You must be a better driver than me because I could not keep her flat in turn until I changed to 1/8 scale shocks.

jordan... 05.27.2008 11:18 PM

nice work with the flames on that Tango mk, the truck still looks in really good shape considering the beatings you dish out  any plans for a wing in the future? oh, and did you get it up and running on 5s/6s yet?

Stock shocks with RC raven and RC Boyz dual rate springs in the rear and a pair of RC Boyz and a pair of stock reds up front. I was thinking about getting some buggy shocks but I think I will just get a set of Big Bores. I have them on my T and they do fine for me so it would be nice to keep the trucks as close to each other as possible so I dont have to keep so many spares on hand.

I used BigBores with RCRaven dual rates springs for a while with much better handling. I really think in my case it was driving style:oh:

I think I will leave the wing for the E-Revo, but once I get used to it who knows? I was plannining on getting 6s for the E-Revo and seeing how that feels. Then I could just swap the MMM and batts between trucks, but not sure yet.

Buzzsaw46 05.28.2008 04:24 PM

I doubt its my driving skills LOL. I may have just stumbled upon a good setup, thing cuts corners like a slot car.
