AHHH!!! That is the car's owner user name. He frequents RC Universe.

Well, I made some headway today. I got a Quark 6000kv motor from linc and soldered it up. I think the pinion is around 26t. Once I plugged everything in I lifted it up and tested it with my 9.6v "test pack". It worked fine so I plugged in my flightpower 3s lipo. It worked too. My friend was over, and I decided to show off what a 4s pack would do. I gunned it and parts went flying everywhere! I ended up snapping a drive cup and bending a center shaft into a boomerang.

After that I thought I'd test it with rear wheel drive and the 3s lipo. The car we really slow and made odd noises in the [ball] diff. We took in it and after a few minutes we had the diff out. It seemed a little hot, so we temped it and it was at 160f! I guess the diff was slipping. After trying a few different things and stripping a ball diff screw, we took the balls out of one a took some CA glue to it.

Now I esentially have a spool I plan to put in the front after I get a new center shaft next week. I ordered it today when I picked up my ball diff rebuild kit that had the stipped screw in it.

With the spool in the back it spun out, a LOT. I couldn't get up half speed. it was embarrasing when a cop drove up and asked us how fast it was. I couldn't get it past 20mph! Well, I hope I have better luck with 4wd. I'll probably post up some pics but until then I'll update ya'll when I get some good runs in with 4wd.

Well testing is identifying failures- your diff is one of them. Hope it works out for ya.

Metallover 06.27.2009 01:10 AM

I *hope* the diffs hold up when there is 4wd. RWD must be too much for a ball diff with so much power behind it... I expect the diffs to do fine but your post will forever haunt me...:eyes:

This may be a bit off and odd, but could you also use A123 cells and if so is 10c good enough or do they make higher C packs or higher then 2300mah?

Metallover 07.03.2009 12:13 AM

a123 cells should be rated 30/60c. The ratings are different then lipos however. It is rated to how much current the cells can survive. The a123 cells don't hold their voltage under load like a good lipo will.

And for an update on the tc3, the parts were on order and I went to pick them up and everything at the hobby shop was being packed up. errr.. I was pretty good friends with the owner and now I have to drive 30 minutes just to get parts. Maybe I can pay for shipping and get them online.... But the parts aren't in yet so no progress..

NoControl 07.03.2009 12:23 AM

Ok just wondering since I've been using some old nimh sticks on my tc5 but the area for the batterys have 2 peices of plastic that are screwed on and are basicly shaped to hold a custom "cell pack" like nimhs or a123's and since my nimhs are almost dead and I'm tired of the packs sliding around I was thinking a 3s3p would be nice , cuz it would fit perfectly, and it would be 9,9v and if I managed to get a MM 7700 I could "theoreticly" hit 100mph, but the fewest and least expensive cells on fleebay were 2300mah 10c, 8 for 68$ shipped.

FINALLY pic. Has the flightpower evo30 3200mah 3s lipo, quark 4t motor, MM, and an external bec in there. Note missing driveshaft.

Looking good....few things:

- You need stiffer springs
- Sway bars (rear for sure)
- Definately foam tires!!

That should help you keep a handle on the car. By the way, what body are you planning to run??

BL_RV0 07.04.2009 01:36 PM

Clean your RX wiring-
Also your tires are on backwards.

Thanks. I'll put those on my list. I'm running the mazda body on the previous page unless you guys can find me a really aero body.

Thanks Ian!

BL_RV0 07.04.2009 02:36 PM

 I like your motor wiring.

Metallover 07.04.2009 02:44 PM

Yeahppp I got lucky on that...
