few more pics.
note my delema... the disk brake won't allow the motor to move any closer to the rear layshaft, so I either need to shave the motor's can a bit, find a larger pinion/spur gear, or do away with the mechanical brake, or a combination of the three.. OR, use a smaller dia motor? decisions decisions.. but do take note of how perfectly close the mount comes to the 2speed. I couldn't be happier with it. http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/9080/img4131aa7.jpg another angle http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/2346/img4134wp4.jpg http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/5997/img4106ji6.jpg http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/6779/img4107pr3.jpg http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/8444/img4110yt5.jpg the battery mount just barely clears the belt. refer back to the renderings, and you'll see that the two center pieces lock together to get an idea of how close they are. http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/7307/img4111al1.jpg |
..and some more.

Can you design a pinion that will use both first and second gear. That would be pretty cool. Shave a littl off the motor fins. I think that would fix you right up.
what pinion T size do you have now?
I know that Constructor over on RCCA designed a pinion to use a two speed, he may be able to help you out with that. I think I would ditch the mechanical brakes, although you may need those at the high speeds.
If he ditches the mechanical brake, then he would also have to ditch the two speed and lock it into first or second.
The reason he is wanting to keep the mech. brake is that with using the motor brake, it puts a huge back draw onto the controller, and that is what ususally inturn frys them.
Looks Good Nick, seems like you have been busy. Did you see if there was available stuff to mabey do a belt drive between the motor and the input shaft?
Tom, i've always got my away message on, but am usually at my computer.. seems to be the opposite w/ you :P
I hadn't thought of belt drive actually, but I'm gonna try and make this as simplistic as possible. i took off the 2speed last night, and the gear keys to the layshaft with a single roll pin and eclip. I went to the hobbyshop about 10min ago, but they're closed due to illness :( I figure a 51t or 52t M1 gear should work after filing down the motor's fins a bit. I'm working on redesigning the battery mounts at the moment, and trying to find a 2nd point of contact, so they'll be more stable.. not alot of options due to the belt height being just above the chassis. time will tell heh. at least I know you got my message, be on more often, I'm curious what you've been up to. anything ever come of the MAME cabinet? edit. oooh I just saw this link that cemetery_gates posted. http://www.scriptasylum.com/rc_speed.html the car comes with a 49t first gear, and 45t second. and I just saw that mike's got 16t, 18t, and 20t M1 5mm pinions. when I bought my motor a while ago, 14t was the largest I could find, so that's what I've got at the moment. this looks promising. the 540c-9l on 5s lipo will be around 62k rpm, so i know that that's a little high, no need to inform me, but here's what the speed calc comes up with. spur | pinion | speed 49 | 16 | 75.14 MPH 49 | 18 | 84.54 MPH 49 | 20 | 93.93 MPH 45 | 16 | 81.82 MPH 45 | 18 | 92.05 MPH 45 | 20 | 102.28 MPH fdr is around 6:1. anyone know what kind of gearing i "should" be running? I don't even know what say an emaxx's fdr is. but this car will be lighter, and have alot less rotating mass from the tires. |

Cool, I am glad Mike carries the pinions you have been looking for.
But..... I think have you beat:005: |
Too bad you need a controller that does 170.000 rpm..
LOL, Its just a joke
that would be the fastest vechicle on earth i presume:D lol nice one!!
:005:
The body will be made of the same material as the space shuttle heat shields to prevent it from bursting into flames.:027: |
