These panic threads are good though because if you sit back and wait for the smart guys to weigh in us noobs can actualy learn alot.

lincpimp 05.15.2008 11:00 PM

I would not suggest using a 4s 4000 20c lipo (maxamps) with a 2000kv (or so) motor in a MT with a MMM. It will not be enough, unless you gear for 30mph or less. Only experience speaking here...

TexasSP 05.15.2008 11:02 PM

Well, I learned that mine failed today. Although I am glad it died quickly instead of down the road when I wasn't just doing a test run. I will say the controller was awesome while it ran, super smooth pushing an align 600XL. Slow speeds were great with no cogging from takeoff.

hootie7159 05.15.2008 11:18 PM

texas.... where did your monster come from?

I try to get real info from the people that makes our very valuable R/C goodies. I'm pretty sure lincpimp will come up with something better .

Not too sure what to think about the RURC. I guess he means well, but is not quite there with his info. Maybe he knows about other things? I know quite a bit about rc, but if I were to start giving out info about re-winding outrunner motors, it would be wrong, as I have no idea how to do that. So I keep my mouth shut, and wait for people for experience to chime in.

I am really at a loss as to why the battery situation is such a big deal. I guess I now understand how to choose batterys. If you have a setup that is working fine with a mm and upgrade to a mmm, nothing has changed. The mmm may run cooler, and give the option to go up to 6s lipo, and have a built in bec that works up to 6s. That is it. Maybe someone needs to make a sticky out of that?

Main problems with public forums is that there will always be dumbasses out there that want to be right, regardless if they are or not, like this RURC, and Jason from NK (had to throw him in!). I try to keep out of the poo tossing, but saying that enerland cells are junk, who believes that? I usually find that if one thing in someones rant is wrong/BS, the rest of it is most likely crap too.

I just hate to see less experienced users trying to get their heads around all of this false info. It is difficult enough as it is, all of this BS just adds to the confusion. Plus, when you hear someone trying to justify their reasoning by being in the hobby with x number of years of experience, just remember this: Just because you have done something a bunch of times does not mean you have done it right once.

Mine came from Mike, I just got it in the mail today.

I am not mad, just a little depressed. It was putting such a smile on my face while running. It's an awesome controller and I know CC will take care of things, I just wish I could still play.

I know this is the wrong place to ask but any news on whats up with the few MMMs that have stopped working?

Inquiring minds would like to know for sure.

Same here. I was stoked with how my MMM was running. Better then I had even hoped as it was that smooth. I was so happy and then it stopped. I wasn't angry just had a bit of an empty feeling. I wish I had ordered 2 now.

Some of them have a bad component in the BEC circuit.

These components come on a roll, and it was found to have some that didn't meet specs. They have a new roll that has been checked out ok.... and the "bad" roll was sent back to the mfg.

Sooooo..... that's why a few Monsters have died peacefully, while most are going strong and should not have such issues.

Castle told me today that any Monsters that are sent in are being put at the front of the line... and it's a simple component swap.

Suks that some of the guys outside the US got a bad one.

You should see how the guys at the Brasilian RC forum treats me. They think I'm a god over there. I keep it real though and I told them to come in here to rc/monster to get real info about anything they need.

It's idiots like him that chase people out of the hobby. He is just as bad as the arrogant nitro guys talk trash on electric. Luckily, I had run across his stupidity before and usually just ignore him. It's sad really, all the actual factual things he says are completely blown out buy the sewage he spits out on his keyboard via his fingers.

It is definitely smooth. We should form a support group and have a group hug.

We could call it PWFMM, People With Fried Mamba Monsters. :na:

Thanks for the info glass doctor. It does suck. It means I'll be waiting a few weeks for mine to be returned.

It needs to be PWFMMS, People With Fried Mamba Monsters Syndrome. you have to have syndrome in there to be taken seriously.

I'm just saying is how big of a problem it would be if those 6 failed ones made it to the hands of 6 different people outside of North America. Instead of a week of down time those people would have a month of down time because of the shipping times - which are in nobody's control.

I do plan on buying this for my Savage conversion but before I do I want to make sure all the bugs are out of it because of the wait time.

So your going to wait to do anything cuz you dont want to wait????

I've seen this happen a lot since I started selling electronic components and it will happen more not only with Castle, but any electronic device being made. A tape/reel will some times have a few chips that will fail. I have to say that the few that went bad shows how good Castle's manufacturing really is. I had Philips Brasil try to blame me for 75,000 TV sets that went bad. Funny thing is that Philips bought a Philips MOSFET from me that was in a sealed package. I told Philips Brasil to deal with Philips as they were the manufacturer. Funny how I can sell Philips components to Philips .

glassdoctor 05.15.2008 11:56 PM

Nice... you would think they could pull their head out long enough to notice the parent company's name on the bad component and leave the middleman alone LOL

The excuse they gave me was that I sold them the parts and I should take care of it. A quick call to Royal Philips in Holland calmed things down in Brasil. I like how you handled RURC. He still didn't answer me about the 300A Schulze controller he has.

That really sucks for CC. Bad press for an otherwise great product. Id be havin some words with that component supplier and makin sure it doesnt happen again.

The only other copmplaint I have about the MMM so far is the fans are junk. Mine quit already after 1 race day and the only other guy around here with a MMM also had his fan die after 1 race day and some test runs.

CC was cool about sending out a replacement post haste.... But I have a feeling this wont be the last time it gets replaced. I'd like to see an optional top half of the case that gets rid of the fan and exposes the heatsink to some natural air flow. I'm willing to bet it doesnt need the fan for 95% of applications.

I wonder if they would sell me just a top half of the case that I could modify. As it is, without a fan it seems like it would be hard to get enough air in there to keep it cool.

I am thinking of changing my current order with my my buddy @ BBY racing from a MMM to another MM as it will be going in a 2nd 8ight buggy setup for 4S (1512 or smaller) . I dont think I will really need the MMM until I build a 8ight T and go 5S or 6S. They run 20 minute mains here @ my local tracks. I do have 2 new CC BEC's....

Thoughts?

I am sure that will be fine, I have 8 MMs (just bought another) and I use them in all kinds of stuff, from 2s-4s and in a variety of vehicles. Must be the most versatile esc for the money.

glassdoctor 05.16.2008 12:56 AM

I'm going to be trying the Monster, but my MMs are not going anywhere. I just put a new MM in my 8ight with a slick UBEC setup, and I have a Castle BEC coming too...

I might be the only one in the world that has more MMs than lincpimp

I missed the Monty Python thing... what was that?

BrianG 05.16.2008 01:01 AM

GD: How many of those MMs are functional?

I am sure that the cc guys have a few! I had more but I fried one that had some mods done to it, and sold another. I will say that the MMM is holding up better then the MM in my revo with the hacker 7xl. I need to finish the hyper st and give thr mmm a try on 6s with the hacker 11xl.

The Python thing was from another thread where texas was saying that I would have to try harder to insult him. So I told him his mother was a hampster and his father smelt of elderberries!

When you phone CC they will take your Credit Card details and send a replacement one then and there and if your broken one doesn't arrive after a certain time, they will charge you, if it arrives than you wont get charged

DRIFT_BUGGY 05.16.2008 07:13 AM

Got all the gear now to get mine up and running (including the MMM), might get it up and going tomorrow but not sure if I will get time, still abit scared about trying it out, might end up with a broken heart

I order MMM from mike and now on the way to my box in aramex (company that give me a mail box in New York)
aramex charged from me $30 just for handle it. Ok lets do math now
MMM+tax+shipng to aramex in NY $174 + (aramex) $30 ship for kuwait = $204

Ok When I receive my MMM and the bec stop working. Lets do math again
MMM $204 + $30 (send it to NY for aramex) + $30 (send it cc) + $30 (from aramex NY to kuwait) = $294 plus wait 2 month lol
