Car came out very nice. very creative.

SpeedAssault 02.22.2010 11:21 PM

VIDEO FINALLY, just before the car Killed my radio
not the greatest video, but will get a high speed video later when I know the car will come back
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LU426fa7WY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGm-tL2xGvs

THE steel spur, pinion and stainless driveshafts are causing huge EMF to my am radio, so after this video I cant use my radio for it anymore

Just in time
gonna have to build my 2.4 6ch pistol radio next.

What's_nitro? 02.23.2010 12:06 AM

Hey nice quasi-drift in the second vid... I can't believe it runs at all with an AM radio...wow! Definitely get that 2.4 in there before it tries to burrow under a car tire.

Overdriven 02.23.2010 09:38 PM

I love this thing. Makes me want to build a 1/5 rally car out my leftover maxx parts.

SpeedAssault 02.24.2010 07:47 PM

lol
thank Driven
If I find a large dirt lot I may swap it over to offroad

I built a massive battery box with high density padding.
I'll post pics.

Took it for a spin and it drove really well  until one rear axle shaft split open then the front wheels were unloading like crazy !

SO i need some stronger shafts as I see the joints are getting sloppy as well

Im really curious have you adjusted the position of your upper arms? They dont seem to be parallel with your upper arms

I have been thinking of that actually, brainstorming how I can make the lowers and uppers level. It's much easier to just make the uppers level.
Do you think I just need to level the uppers ?
if you look at the rear (black uppers) they are much more slanted.

SpeedAssault 03.07.2010 10:21 PM

Anybody have suggestions on Shock oil weight with soft or hard springs ?
I have ot setup so the suspension holds the car up but it seems to stiff.

Finally built my Lipo Tray box

3/16 Delrin sheet with mouse padd cut up and other high density foam to help cushion should impact accur.

littleazn248 03.10.2010 12:39 AM

Wow nice work on the battery box! As far as shocks go i recommend something stiffer than what you have, it looks like your still using the original red springs. Id recommend getting a integy spring kit. For on road the stiffer the spring the better but not to stiff though, you wanna stiffen up so the car corners flatter, but if your to stiff they're will be to much lateral G causing the car to break traction (drift). Actually better yet I'd just recommend getting some revo shock since they have progressive rate so they slow and firm on the compression stroke and soft and quick on the rebound stroke the bore is also bigger than the emaxx shocks.

Hey thanks for the compliments
,
you cant look at it and say it's to stiff though. What weight of oil do I use ? I'm using 60 with #43 3 hole.
It seems pretty stiff, I have no sway bar in the rear and it's doing well.

I was thinking maybe getting the revo ones but these Losi 8 shocks are really nice and I cant spend money right now ( still out of work)
I have a bunch of Losi 8 springs, Front is really stiff and the the next down soft in the rear is Losi 8 Purple Springs painted red.
Been shopping all over for onroad springs but nothing in 20.5 mm ID

littleazn248 03.11.2010 02:17 AM

ohhh ic i thought they were the big bores. In that case you should be fine there 16mm right? Yeah 60 wt is good but i think losi might sell progressive rate pistons. As far as it goes i think all you need to tamper with now is the springs.

cool thanks, I will switch up the springs, much easier than changing oil

What do you drive ? in Ca?

SpeedAssault 04.13.2010 03:00 PM

Well I finally built my new Transmitter conversion

Now I can drive all my rides with ease, no more glitches or car running away

CH 1 Throttle
Ch 2 Front steering
Ch 3 Rear steering
Ch 4 Either a 2nd Trigger for Crawler or a 3 way switch for 4wd-2wd-DIG or momentary buttons for front or rear dig for my Berg crawler.
Ch5 turn on lights for crawler
CH 6
Mix: 4 wheel steer ( tight left or right turn)
2mix: 4 wheel crab walk for my dual steering crawler

I plan on making one like that in 1/5 size

Hi there,
great work you got going here, just throwing a body into the mix- Mercedes C291, it has the look your going for. Here is the site of the custom company using the body in their 1/5 bl as well- http://www.modelconcept.fr/?cat=5
Not sure about the wheelbase or anything though.

THAT Is SICK !
good find, thank you
I wonder how much that body would cost ? at my rate it will be a long time before I can mold a body.

oh I posted that? Your making great progress on your project and I am just about ready to jump into the fifth scale scene the only question is Baja 5t conversion or 1/5 scale on road conversion its so hard to decide. Off road monster or on road speed demon decisions decisions.

Yea I hear ya, now that I have my on road and still tuning it I ask myself if I should build a off road one, but, I have a short course truck I just built which is a kick to drive, dont drive it much, no place to. so I'm happy with them all.

Thank you. it's getting more bells and whistles:mdr:

littleazn248 10.04.2010 02:33 PM

So i finally made the move to build an on-road. I decided to get away from using an emaxx and start with a truggy base. Pretty much i kept the truggy center and changed the arms cvds and shocks out to buggy ones. This pretty much saves me the time/money from having to get hybrid diffs for my emaxx as well as having to CNC parts. Its currently only powered with a novak hv6.5 on NiMh. I have a Mamba System in the works but I need to get the lipos before I run it on the mamba.

With its current setup probably 45 tops but even know torque is great. Can't wait to get the Mamba in there.

For the future I hope to add a kyosho gt 2speed gear box in there.

littleazn248 10.04.2010 02:37 PM

By the way heres the link to my build http://www.beatyourtruck.com/forum/s...-7-scale-HB-D8

Also where do you run your 5th scale? I heard that down in Santa Clara there's a group of people that are running NITRO Inferno's. We should go show em who's boss lol with a brushless rig we can smoke em in every aspect.

Updates
Needing new shafts . ( keep breaking)

Installed my custom adjustable brake button on the DX6i (silver tab on the grip behind the throttle)

NEW Tires !
Reinforced the chassis
New upper chassis rails
New Aluminum motor plate
Moved the Motor and battery to left side for better weight distrubution

Results were great !
I was able to drive it with the huge body on it and reach 58mph before it STARTED to FLY up into the AIR !:surprised:

what happen I think is the rear stub axle broke which could have aided in the front lifting. Happened so fast the front was an easy 10 inches off the ground before I released the throttle

Just before new mods were done
Added a 2 way momentary button with a switch so I can select if I want momentary on or off.

After Mod, the new momentary for mixing activated by my thumb located below steering behind black 3 way switch behind the trigger

You could try to install LST XXL shafts on there. They might not be the exact length you need but you could modify them like you did for your center shafts. You probably would be able to reinstall the original output cups in your diffs. You're pretty good with that drill press so the axle carriers have to be modified just by enlarging the hole for the outer bearing to just under 16 mm. Then you can press a 8X16 bearing in there. The inner bearing is 15X21 and you can press that in the carrier with a 5/8'' socket wrench and a vise. It slips right in.

I'm not sure about your wheels, I went back to try to make sense of how they are secured on but I can't figure it out. I don't know if the wheels use a hex drive and how big it is. I think I read something about them having a square drive?

mac3194 12.06.2010 10:56 PM

Can you tell me what you made your chassis with and how exactly you made because im doing something similar in my machine shop class except using 1/8th scale buggy parts.

thanks

In all my searching for a GTP or cool like body I have only found one
954 Mercedes -->http://www.bigboystoysandhobbies.com/bodies
and there's no way I would spend $175. on a plastic body.
I dont understand why they are not more widely used, espeacially now that they have semi truck race bodies

I have been researching to find a material to carve and form to but no luck yet.
Material looking at:
Polystyrene
polyurethane
blue foam
wood

Getting VERY ANXIOUS for a Sweet RACE BODY and went to town with foam and tape, just a rush job but damm I think it's going to look Badas$

WHat ya Think ?

Bad ass thread!

If you want to make a custom body you could probably hand lay a fiberglass one of carbon fiber using this method. Tape up the curves and shape like here. Cover in a microfiber. Soak in resin to get to shape. Then lay down your material and resin to reinforce. I have done similar in making a custom sub woofer box for automotive.

I used stock revo outputs, made a square drive with the corners angled at 45* drilled a hole for the pin to go through it and the axle. I then used Losi wheel extenders and used my drill press as a lathe and trimmed down the small extr shoulder on them to fit inside the FG wheels.
I will post a picture of them.
The HPI Tarmack busters are Awesome for grip, way better than these FG's and the tarmack busters are only $30. for two tires.

Hey Thank you. I think I started to look into that, but it became a money issue and I learned that Titanium has no business in drivetrain, they are junk. my steel ones hold up fairly well, unless there is a collision.

I used 3mm aluminum but you should use like 5mm or more. My chassis has to much of torsional twist and flex.

Thank you for the tip. But I am going to use a block of foam and shape it and then vacuum form polycarbonate over it.

littleazn248 05.15.2011 11:00 PM

You've made some really good progress! So have you managed to find a body yet? Just curious but hows the 1515? Does it give enough umph? I also have one suggestion you should add some disc brakes on the front wheels. It's easy to find em for a 1/5 scale.
