Your work is incredible as always but yeah that beast has to weigh a ton!!! :oh:
|
lol, i like nimh, picked up a set of 3 nearly new packs GP4300's the other day, 18 cells in total for £30, you cant beat it!
weight is just under 5kg ready to run. |
That is a bargain I must admit- everyone is switching to lipo so they're selling their nimhs for cheap!
I must say though, that new chassis plate turned out alot nicer than my effort- ever concidered using the extensions on your truck to give it a longer wheel base (extended rear skid and extended rear-upper plate). Would mean a new rear dogbone from Mike or RcAlloys, but it might help tame wheelies and spare the slipper a little (from not having to loosen it as much as you do currently). Just a thought (I have a spare rear-upper plate I dont need if it helps sway your decision).... |
me again! Done a job i've been meaning to do for a while, so this is the center of my truck
http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/171.JPG I have to use a 12 pinion on a 56 spur, even this is a little high with 18 cells now rather than 16. I cant go any lower on the pinion as it rips the teeth off the spur, plus the clutch has been getting anoying, it seems to be affected by temperature, some days it slips some its too tight and flips the truck, so really I want to go to a diff with a thick fluid, like 30k weight or something. Problem is on an 1/8th diff you have limited spur gear choice. On the left is a 60T (i have a 56 aswell) mod one ofna gear from a 2 speed setup, on the right a gear that fits the 1/8th diff. http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/172.JPG so i made this :) http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/174.JPG it sits inside the gear perfect to keep it central http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/175.JPG inside http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/176.JPG bolted to the diff case for an airtight fit, I couldnt countersink the screws as its a bit thin. http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/177.JPG just had to drill 4 holes in the spur to allow for the screw heads http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/178.JPG http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/179.JPG :) |
Nice work! But why not just get the Ofna diff that uses those spurs?
|
I like the spur gear adapter for the diff, looks great. The center diff will tame the wheelies alot. And it will turn much better too!
|
Wow! Your work is always amazing.
|
thanks, there isnt one, they come from a 2 speed setup that uses a funny clutch thing with a one way bearing, no centre diff to speak of

Sweet!!!!!! Amazing work candyman! I remember being awed the first time I saw it on the traxxas forums.
Very, very, nice car. |
Looks like something Mike would have made/designed- I like it alot.
|
Time for a redesign, I think i've been using this hacked up gorilla chassis for too long :) Main objective is to move the motor lower and nearer the middle of the truck, and as always symetry is key
Its not 100% yet, few things need changing here and there, hopefully get it finished this week and electronics in...... somehow  http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/180.jpg http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/181.jpg http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/182.jpg http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/183.jpg http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/184.jpg http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/185.jpg http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/186.jpg http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/187.jpg |
:surprised: Oh my God... Sick!!! nicely done Candyman...
|
Amazing!
Yo, Candy, when the heck are you gonna use lipos, man? The world is moving forward fast you know. |
If only it had lipos.... The it would be perfect.
|
Beautiful work.
|
Man, how long did all of that take? It really shows you have some impressive skill! Excellent design, and as usual, top-notch fabrication.
|
...i was about to pose a question for my own 'build' (term used VERY loosely after seeing this) but now i once again embarrassed by the master...Brilliant work CM...Astounding...Man you need a girlfriend ;)
|
Thanks guys, no need for lipo, truck is plenty fast enough on these cells! and with nimh so cheap i dont think I will ever change.
Didnt take long, maybe 25 hours in total, about 2 weeks, I nearly didnt finish it, I had 3 different ideas for a chassis and spent some time working on the other 2 as well! im still not 100% happy on the design so I might make another yet. |
I think this design is brilliant and could definitely go into production... Looks awesome!!
|
Well not quite that good, I may change it again.
I forgot to say its now just under an inch longer too, I might treat it to a new body actually. So electronics in, took ages to cram everything in. Speedo (18.97kwf) is too big so had to trim the middle fin out for the prop to run inside it. If anyone knows of a thin speed controller that can take 18 cells/6S with over 100 amp rating and will run the 4 pole Plettenberg please let me know as the schulze gets hot! Cut some little grooves int eh diff mount to clamp the wires in place and there we are, added some 500,000 diff oil, cant wait to run it now! http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/188.jpg http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/189.jpg http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/190.jpg http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/191.jpg |
The only thing i see that might need improving, is the rear rods. I see where it'd twist under power, maybe a similar setup to the front in the rear and maybe a support in the middle if the rear setup
Lipo's would be a nice addition, but the truck is awesome and no longer a Gmaxx truck I really got to get into school and learn CAD design |
Remind me to get some more Kleenex..
On the esc front, one of Lutach's items wouod be ideal- maybe a little in the wide side, but it is very flat- sure he can supply the dimensions. Otherwise I was thinking an MMM without its case/fan, or do like BrianG did and cut the top of the case off; its easily lower profile than the Schulze even with its full heatsink (famous last words). I wouldnt mind seeing some of your other designs you were working on / drawings, just out of curiosity, but this design is pretty damn slick, rather like the BPP truggy chassis actually... |
:surprised: Just a work of art
|
I briefly tried cad but i'd rather draw it on a bit of cardboard and then get out there and cutting metal rather than spending hours on a pc and then getting a machine to cut it, but it has its applications for anything more than 1 offs.
I'll be making another chassis soon, more in the style of my lightning pro: http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/lsp/lsp-18.JPG with the brace going around the motor, only reason its so hard on the maxx is the 56 spur gear is massive! Any ideas how tall the MMM is without the case/ fan? |

Wow... really nice... you sure have the custom build thing going... Have you compared the performance (power, handling, stability)
of both trucks? which do you prefer? I am glad to see someone else other than myself still using cells... Great work man Alien |
The Bigmaxx is just so beautifull!
|
Thats what I ment, your chassis doodles on pieces of paper- an insight into the mind of a madman/genius...
As for the MMM measurements, if no-one else checks I'll measure mine tomorrow afternoon when I get home from work. Its well worth considering though, its the best esc I've ever owned, and I've had... 2 (if you dont count the mech units that came with my tamiya madbull and txt-1)... |
its ok thank you, someone was nice enough to show me a case off mmm.
|
Reckon it would work then?
|
yeh I think so, I might have to get hold of one.
|
Just finished painting my new shell

I've been drolling over this and thinking of getting a Maxx again.... |

Damn linc, I'm getting the LST2 now, but I may have to think about this...
|
Ooh, nice. Looks like an extended F-350, only not the normal pickup version Im so desperate to get hold of; where'd you find that one to?
|
Hey, its actually a Proline Excursion, pretty long but not as long as that 350, i had one of those recently.
|
ok after the bigmaxximum disaster im now back on track!
initial testing is good, the lower KV (1650kv rather than the bigmaxx 2150kv) gives me a lot more room to move on gearing. http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/197.jpg http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/198.jpg http://www.ukmonsters.co.uk/emaxx/199.jpg |
