Dave, when you first ran your 2.0 truggy how did the rear diff feel? I am putting one together now and used all the shims per instructions and it feels questionable when I turn it. I read on rctech that it will loosen up. Did you have any issues with the rear diff? Thanks.

I didn't notice anything unusual in the rear diff and have not taken mine apart yet. What do you mean about it feeling questionable? In what way?

Dave what are you and some of the guys running for steering arm. The factory junk plastic one is now stripped....

Also I borrowed and AL one that is a dynamite brand and it works great but how are you guys centering the steering. The arm goes in one way and it will not full lock to the right, so I took the arm back off and went the opposite direction and now it will not full lock the other way. The steering is a PITA.

I'm using the same JR Aluminum horn I've been using for years. It has two set screws as well as the standard top load screw to hold it in. I put it on as centered as I could but had to adjust the trim to like -12 or -15. Then I set the end points and was just fine. 65 on one end and 82 on the other if I recall correctly. I'm definitely getting full throw. Got the rub on the arms to prove it.

jzemaxx 04.28.2009 03:11 PM

Hmm, guess I need a little longer throw arm then.

There is a pretty decent photo of it at the start of this thread. It's not terribly long. Matter of fact, I did some dremmel work on it to make it look a little prettier with rounded edges b/c I cut part of it off. Does your radio have EPA adjustments?

jzemaxx 04.28.2009 03:19 PM

Yes....its set to the max which is 125 on both left and right, and using a JR 8711 servo.

Ok...Dave found the problem. Checked 2 2.0's and both were the same problem. The steering arm per the manual is suppose to be 73.70mm long. Mine was 78.77mm and my buddy's was 77.20mm. Both of us were using the trim way off to adjust to get straight, but mine was way more and the arm was so long is was not allowing full lock one way.. Also after doing this the steering trim on mine is now only 2 and lock to lock no problem. So this needs to be mentioned. Also the servo arm now sits completely straight in the middle..... I am now ready for my race this weekend. First truggy race ever for me.....been racing MT class this year so far. So new experience.

Race Report

Got an update. I raced at my "local" track this weekend. It was opening day and the first of many races there for the 2009 season. It was also my first full race day on the new 8T 2.0 Electric.

Overall it went great. The truck ran strong and fast in each of the two qualify rounds and it survived it's first full 10 minute main. The field included about 3 other 8T 2.0's (all nitro) as well as two new Z01-T's and a few other quality race trucks. I think there were 7 in the A Main after the B main winner bumped up.

In Practice I roasted yet another servo. This was AFTER I replaced the spring with the 1.0 spring. About the only thing I don't know is if the servo was a little wounded before I put it in. I know the spring was set about 1/2 up the post so when I swapped it out I moved it way down.

Qualifying was painless. I won my first round, not sure about the second. I ended up qualifying 3rd. TQ was held by Kevin H from RCCA, he was running a sweet 8T 2.0 which will be featured in a soon to be released RCCA mag. Props to him for laying down a smoking qualify time.

The start of the main was a disaster, I got butt-slammed going up the "wall" and ended up in last place. I decided to take my mandatory pit on the first lap b/c you can't do much worse than last. After that I mounted my charge and I will say, the 8T 2.0 likes to be pushed. I was picking them off, I quickly worked my way back up to 3rd. Somehow I managed to get around Kevin into 2nd and started my charge for the win. With about 2 minutes to go the shock end broke and I pretty much lost the ability to turn left. I hung in there, drove erratically in order to make those lefts but somehow I managed to hang on to second. (In all fairness, the guy in 3rd stalled out on the last lap.) I feel pretty confident that had I not been running on 3 shocks, I would have caught the leader.

Oddly enough this shock end had already been replaced. It didn't fall off like many of the original one's have done, this one broke at the eye hole. Cracked right in half through the plastic. Very unusual. Anyway it was a quick and cheap fix so I'm all set for this coming weekend. Here are some photos from the day:

Our track has some real air now...here is a photo from the "big double" jump:

We also have a new corner called "The wall" in this photo my truck is humping another truck...

Another decent size jump is the stepdown triple:

Finally one of the 8T 2.0's strong points, corner exit is always quick...

I hope to get some video next week.

Dave awesome results and awesome pics!! I myself raced this weekend as well with the 2.0. Swept all the qualifying heats as TQ then also won the main. The 2.0 is awesome and does like to be driven deep into the turns as opposed to the RC8T which I also drove in the 2nd heat. Can't wait for the next race, I plan to do some changes and try to get some better lap times. The truck was within .7ths off the track record on the first time out. I am truely happy!

That track is sick!! I'm jealous!

Sower 05.07.2009 02:24 PM

With the shock end issue - why not try one from another MFR like Xray or Mugen? Won't they fit on the rod ends of the Losi shocks?

Electric Dave 05.07.2009 10:19 PM

The one I had replaced was something I picked up from a guy at the track, it was a Losi but one for the 1.0 truggy. I don't think it's failure is indicative of anything wrong with the design, I do think I'll pick up some 2.0 ends and likely never have the issue again. But I would also consider others if there seems to be a recurring problem.

Dave, Losi sent me v1 shock ends as a replacement, not 2.0 ones.

They did the same thing for me... The told me only to use the shock ends, the tech said the spring retainers are different.. I used one of them and haven't noticed an difference..
