I've got a question for yall. I was on rcu and this guy is wondering if he should get rid of his damaged lipo.

I would say it's good to go but i'm not sure, the skin might be bad. One of you guys should post or I can post. Linc, tell me if you want me to recommend him to you.

Definitely looks to have at least one, maybe two bad cells.

rawfuls 04.04.2009 09:52 PM

Yeah..
I'd get rid of the 1/2 bad cells.
Looks like he smashed it into dirt.
Blow off the dust, and see what's left.

Metallover 04.04.2009 11:52 PM

Just to add the the rcu stuff, I found some interesting pics.

I'm trying to find out if it was a maxmaps pack.....

rawfuls 04.04.2009 11:52 PM

Wow, that really sucks..

Metallover 04.05.2009 12:04 AM

New updates on the story... I guess it was just the Schumaker esc. Here's the guys thread - http://casterracingusa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1499

"But I pretty much lost nearly all of the electrics except the 2 chargers (Which BTW Mike, the hobby store owner wants to buy some for his shop). Motor tempted at 230f, ESC looks like a good BBQ meal, Lipos have some sides slightly melted. The car has some melted parts but overall intack. Some at the track say the lipos may still be good but I don't feel comfortable with a battery that has taken damage already and could be a sitting bomb."

Well now all this is in the wrong place.

Hobbycity helped me out with the wire shrink but I can't find any large shrink on there.

Try digikey.com they are an electronics warehouse\holesale place they have EVERYTHING regarding electronics to my knowledge, yea thy have some rather large heatshrink a variety of colors and spec's.

Metallover 04.05.2009 05:59 PM

I ended up getting heatshrink at cheapbatterypacks.com. My next hobbycity order will have a ton of wire heat shrink too.

NoControl 04.05.2009 07:58 PM

ok, Hey Linc think its pretty cool your doing all this, do you know what company makes the hyprion style balance taps, and or where you get them from? I wanna switch some zippys from xh to hyperion to avoid buying an adapter.

I was refering to the white peice only, so i could pull off the old xh connector and replace it with the hyperion style and still use the original wires.

Can't do that, the little pin plugs are different.

NoControl 04.06.2009 01:07 AM

So it's either impossible or difficult to remove the xh connector, so that all I have is the wires, and the battery, then install them in a hyperion white connector without buying the "special" hyperion connector with wires or the xh board?

The type of crimped on pin that the xh connector uses will not phsically fit and clip in a hyperion connector. You either have to splice the hyp tap on, or remove the shrink and solder a new harness on. I would suggest an adapter, cheapest and simplest way out.

NoControl 04.06.2009 01:34 AM

Thanks for the opinion and yea it looks like I'll have too any ways, can't sem to find the hyperion style connector by itself.

Raze ST Truggy 04.06.2009 07:43 AM

I have a i-max8 charger that uses JXT ballance tabs, and sometime last year picked up some used hyperion lipos from a menber here. I bought some addapters from hobby city that had a female JXT and a male Hyperion.

I think that JXT is the same as align when your looking for addapters. I also have a 2S MA pack that I also got used here (and btw: still works great) which has the same ballance tab as the 3S hyperion lipos that I have and with some pin moving/ shifting around I am able to ballance that with the same connector as I do the hyperions.

Hey linc i sent the lipos to you.
You should get them in 2-10 days.

Metallover 04.09.2009 08:26 AM

I never posted pics of the pack linc just returned to me. It is in pristine condition.

I got some labels made too. Big thanks to Overkill for that! And Thanks Linc! It looks and performs great.

Just took the shrink off a neu pack, 2s 4900 25c, and going by the numbers on the cells they appear to be enerland mfg. It does say made in china, but most of the newer enerland packs I have fooled with recently have that on the cells too...

Yep, should have them done and in the mail with the wheels by Sat morning at the latest!

snauty 04.10.2009 11:16 AM

Not yet...

E-Revonut 04.13.2009 03:50 PM

Got my package from James today, awesome job and quick turnaround. If he started printing oem type labels you'd never know the difference. Build quality actually seems better than original on the Neu packs.

http://i548.photobucket.com/albums/i...T/HPIM0593.jpg

Here they are, I made a label for my RC-Monster Lipo and put it on MA style (packing tape). Since the pic I pulled the labels off my Neu packs and taped them on too.

Thanks LincPimp!

lincpimp 04.13.2009 04:39 PM

Thanks for the kind words... I try to make the packs as solid as possible before I shrink them. And I generally add some add protection to the ends, as they seem to take the most abuse...

Arct1k 04.13.2009 05:14 PM

James most likely will send you those MA 4200's to reconfigure - Just need to see if/how well they mount on the berg once the chassis is complete... cheers

E-Revonut 04.13.2009 07:57 PM

Question for Linc and all the other Lipo gurus out there. What would be the effects of charging a Lipo at slightly above 1C? I'm not talking 1.5-2C I mean something like charging a 4500mah or 4900mah at 5Amps or so. Not on a regular basis but when racing it would be nice to make sure I wasn't scramblng to get packs charged in time. Basically charging at .1-.5A over 1C. Do I risk puffing at that rate, shorter life cycle?

Arct1k 04.13.2009 08:02 PM

Depends on the Lipo - The new Hyperion I just ordered and the new Neu's are rated to 5c...

I'd watch temps and the balancer to ensure that is doesn't over volt any cell...

At the barn it was never an issue to the the long intervals and short races

E-Revonut 04.13.2009 08:08 PM

Lipos in question are Neu XP and RC-Monster packs both rated at 1C charge. I'll have 2 packs by the time I'm racing but if it comes down to a main any longer than 10 minutes I'll have to do a swap and having both packs charged up for the main might be an issue. I'm not sure how long the rounds will take at CRC either and after practicing I may need a slightly quicker charge.

Need more money for more Lipos!!!

lincpimp 04.13.2009 09:18 PM

I am sure that charging a 4500 pack at 5amps will be fine. Hyperion actually rated all of their packs for 2c charge for the last year or so, and those are the same enerland cells in the the other high end brand packs. You may diminish the life a bit, but I doubt it will do much. As long as you are using a decent charger you should be fine.

Yep, they are in the box next to the workbench. I will try to get to them before the weekend, but work is killing me with long hours this week. Looks like you have at last 1 bad cell in the damaged pack. I will pm you with more info when I get them checked out.

trev3813 04.15.2009 12:01 PM

I know this is "li-po repair" but could you fix my Pro Match 6 cell?

What does it need? Have not done nimhs in a while, but I can make side by side packs with battery bars and put decent wire on it and clear shrink it. No need for a balance tap on these! Unless you really want one...

trev3813 04.15.2009 12:32 PM

Was in a full speed crash. and stupid me didn't put the batter bar in. Pack went flying, and a few of the bars came un done. I don't have a hot enough iron to do it.

I can fix that, but do you know anyone in town that could solder them back on? Might be cheaper and quicker than sending it to me.

trev3813 04.15.2009 12:50 PM

My friend nate was gonna, but he never came down and got em :D. Hmm. let me ask him again. If not, it might be faster to send em to you. lol
