Isnt that video amazing he is flat hauling.I like the contraption he made, it's a good idea and probably not that expensive to make. To bad he wont make it for the event. If I am not mistakes he is doing that 154 mph run with a castle neu 2200 kv motor.

very cool build keep us up to date
|
Hmm, strap a radar gun to the underside of a heli, then hover it over the drag strip... :mdr:
I like the all-black theme, a few little subtle decals on just one door maybe, will look fine I reckon. |
I used to heat the LiPo's up for running them in my boats. It made them more responsive in the beginning and provided cooler temps in the end of run, and that's dumping 4500mah in less than 5 minutes...
I used a heating pad that plugs in the wall. Just turn it on, let it heat up, wrapped the packs in the heating pad and then monitored the temps. I usually got them to about 105*F before running them. Worked great! I also dig the solid black. Lets hope you can keep the tires on the ground and make some clean passes. |
Ok, I hit 80 mph but not on the wheels LOL!. I was doing a run and I hit a reflector dot and a bad thing happen. It fliped on the brand new lid and went by the radar gun @ 80 mph and did end over end somersaults. My son didn't record the radar gun though and allready stoped the video. We then looked at the gun and it said 80mph but didnt record it. Damage was a scuffed body broke plastic tie rod link and more scratches on the wheels. I need to check it out better.

Risks.
Yea there sure are some risks involved with what you are doing and trying to accomplish. Just like the Wright Brothers you will inevitably run into issues and maybe even suffer a few setbacks in order to reach your goal. Persiverance is truly a good quality to have right now.
Just a suggestion, put your video camera on a tri-pod to avoid the human factor, and to also avoid any chance of injury by a flying vehicle. It looked as if it was beginging to steer off course when the crash happened. I thought that the Gyro would negate that aspect of trouble?? Keep pushing it River. You will overcome. |
Yea, my son was not supposed to be there he was suppose to be off the street. I think what happen is right before it hit the reflector I gave it some more throttle and I think the tire broke loose a little in the rear and the gyro did do its job right before I hit the reflector. The gyro just helps keep the car going straight foward it will and can wander a little though.
|
At least the body was on to protect the important stuff.
Nothing like a good test run  |
coulda been worse, still faster than a bat outta hell, even if it was upside down!--josh
|
hey thats got to be a record for the fast upside down e-maxx slide right?
lol better luck on your next runs |
Most definatly. Next run ended badly I was headed towards the left side curb and I over corrected or something and hit the other right side curb. More damaged but fixable body looks terrible but still holding its shape. I think the biggest issue I am going to have is getting this truck to go down the track straight. I am going to lock the front diff solid and try to make some vertical stabilizers for the back.
|
I built a new wing out of lexan with huge verticle stabilizers. Because the 1/8 scale buggy wing has too much down force. See pic. Since I didnt have time to test it I would have to test it at the ISC event. First pass: I managed 70 mph with no back up speed so its still was unofficial It had Lost of tire spin when I got on it and it was hard to control. Second pass: I lost control some how and drove on the opposite side of the timing lights and crashed so no speed. Found out that my cheap little gyro had failed and I had no steering at all. No Wonder!! Third pass I managed a 79 mph pass officially bacck up with 78. Forth pass I managed a 81 mph officially and everybody was tripping. I gave a little show and poped a wheely with some ti sparks also they all loved that. I think I am getting better at driving it. Let see if I cant get it too 100mph tomorrow. Better driving and 2 more higher gears might be the ticket.

Nice job. And good thinking on that wing - sprint car style.

Way to go rivermaxx
Way to go River. Your truck is looking great, and your efforts are also looking pretty darned good as well. I like the wing design, and that truck looks awsome the way you have it setup. Good luck with the 100mph trials. I really do hope to see you reach your goal. Good effort man.
|
Thanks guys today I am going for broke first I am going to gear it up and then pour on the timing 5 degrees more every run until I hit over 100mph. Last day so I need to step it up now. I let you know how I do.
|
good job and good luck
be carefull with the timeing |
Everything's crossed for you River...let it rip!!!

Here is a vid of my 79 mph pass and a vid of Nic Case's car. I wish my car goes ae straight as his. I know I could get a 100 mph if it did.
http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...CIMG2686-1.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...h_CIMG2685.jpg |
At first today didn't go too well, after I geared up to a 30 pinion and 36 tooth spur I made a not very straight pass. I almost went through the lights side ways and managed a another 79mph pass. It was good but I expected more with gearing I was running. I also burned up the esc on that run. I went ahead and soldered some connectors on to my brand new esc and tried it out and it wasn't working properly. So I robed another esc out of my g-4 UE maxx geared down and took it out and tested it and burned it up in less than 5 minutes. That was it, I was done for the day and couldn't beat my 81.75 mph run. But guess what the guy from Florida didn't beat my pass either he only managed a 77mph pass.
I won the open wheel class and also hold the current ISC world record. Not to mention probably the fastest e-maxx based truck ever! I am sure the truck could of gone faster but equipment failure because of extreme gearing. Traction issues when I rolled into the throttle the tires broke loose and the truck pulled hard to the right side causing me to correct all the way down the track were my limiting factors. I actually needed more test time to get it dialed in and I am sure I would of broke a 100mph. Overall I did win and I am very happy about that. I want to thank all of you that supported me in this venture  . Heres some pics. http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...s/CIMG2704.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...s/CIMG2705.jpg http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s...s/CIMG2708.jpg |
Congrats! Very nicely done...
|
Congrats
Very nice RiverMaxx. Congratulations on your victory. I have to ask are you going to work on your project and go for it again next year? I am sure that if you make some adjustments and improve your overall setup that you can and will break the 100mph mark... I would hate to see you give up after a few setbacks and let some other shmuck do it before you have a chance to really set your beast loose. All in all it seems like you had a good time putting your vehicle together and finally running it in the forum that you built it for. Coodos for your efforts and nice work. Plus your truck is not only fast, but it really does look nice to.
|
Congratulations!
Great job what you did with the maxx. Liked reading this thread and now the happy ending with a 1st place, great! Hope you keep working and try to beat the 100MPH next year, I wish you the best of luck for that :yipi: |
I am going to send in my esc's and once I get them back I am going to set the car up a little better and break my 81.75 mph record not officially of course. Everyone their saw the potential of this truck and know could go alot faster. I was set back about 500 feet and only gave it the gas about 30 feet from the traps. Biggest issue was controlling the truck under power. It wanted to steer differently when under heavy throttle. This set up is making so much power the foam tires were breaking loose also causing it too drift. I am thinking now a caped rubber tire would of been better and give me more straight line and side traction but how much those going to cost too make .
|
Well done River...tough job pulling all that together & getting such an excellent result
I have a feeling next years ISC will see a lot of new records set |
Too be honest alot of records were broken this year and alot of 100mph hats were given out also. Results should be posted on the ISC forum pretty soon.
|
What to do next year
What to do, what to do. Maybe if you dampened the steering a little bit to give it some resistance. That might help cut back on the oversteer at high speeds. Maybe there is something to the idea as to why they are not running 4X4 in drag racing. Sometimes simple is better. Steering anything at those speeds will be difficult at best. I really like the way your rear wing/defuser came out though. That was a very classy design. Now you have time to relaxe and think about your lessons learned and what can be done to improve what you have now.
|
Job well done dude, job well done- even if the truck did have its own ideas about what a straight line is.
One thing though; Beau Ramelot? Now thats a name & a half... :mdr: :intello: |
I haven't contributed but have ben rooting for you none the less, great job and congrats !
|
Great job River. You hsould take a lot of pride in what you achieved in a short period of time.
Ok, now lets get to work on next years truck!:whip: |
I am going to take a break from this thing and regroup my thoughts. I will do some more research and see if I can get it to go faster. Nic Case's car is a 4wd car but it is belt driven. He was saying something about the driveshaft cars are prone more to pull because of torque steer. They were also taking about taking the steering out of it by stiffining the springs in the front. Nic even said to put turnbuckles in it in place of the shocks so the suspension is solid. Notice how the truck leans when we turn. This will get rid of that. I will try a couple different combos and see how it goes. Right now I need a break lol.

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! CONGRATULATIONS!
Your name is in the books! You'll go down in history!! And the fact you did it on 6s is amazing. I'm glad to have been able to watch this develop from thought to trophy, thank you for sharing. -Harold |
why dont you take a wing and turn it facing up so when is catches the wind it will push the front down
|
just a little bit
|
you could also put turnbuckles tire rods whatever you wanna call them as the rear shocks so it wont squat in the back
|
I didnt have any issues with blow over at 80+ mph just traction issues from the power the motor put out.
|
Down force
Yes but the traction issue may be directly related to the lack of down force on the chassis. When you run something so lite at that speed you really do need something pushing the vehicle into the road in order to keep the tires seated.
|
That body had lots of down force not to mention the truck weighed over 11 pounds. I really think I could of gone faster with less power. Like 4s or 5s instead of 6 or smaller less torquey motor. Or maybe a stickier real rubber tire instead of foam. A guy with an ofna gtp with the same exact motor on 4s and losi rubber tires went like 114mph with no wing at all and a 1/8 scale ferrarri body. The car weighed about 10 pounds also. I can tell you one thing everybody was amazed at the power of my truck when at 60 mph it would still brake the tires loose when I rolled into it.
|
they didnt travel back in time cause they didnt have the Einstein in the truck. tell me after all those mods . is it still a t-maxx? looks like there is only 10% parts stock left.

All of which is irrelevant, because he competed in the open-wheel class, not the "uber t-maxx top speed diddly doo". You came here from the traxxas forums, that is painfully obvious. Welcome to RCM:party: |
