And now the top gear shaft and slipper can slide in and out of the transmission about 1/2 inch. I tried the truck out in 1st gear to diagnose, and found nothing, but in second the truck runs fine until the top shaft jumps out.. this leads me to beleive that the 1st gear roll pin came out..

What do you guys think.

Can i tell you that it is a PITA to get the trans out of an emax..

Sounds like the input shaft roll pin. Use a piece of an allen head wrench or a steel drill bit cut down to fit. That with steel idlers and your tranny should be rock solid.

brushlessboy16 03.04.2009 07:52 AM

Yeah, i replaced it with an allen wrench end. The idlers have 0 wear as far as i can see. :)
Have to send the pics from my phone. they will be up later

Yep, roll pin has left the building!

Its not that hard to remove an emaxx tranny really, only 8 screws...

I have pita MIP cvd's. strong units- but arent as easy to work with as the sliders:yes:

Nice to see the 8XL is back to destroying maxx trannies :)

It did even kill an allen wrench fix once. Then I drilled out the hole a bit and used a bigger pin. G/L

brushlessboy16 03.04.2009 12:33 PM

I hope this one will stay together, thanks for the motor finnster :)

Metallover 03.04.2009 08:12 PM

Hell, the diff will go out in any car if you put it on carpet and "test the diff"

I would run it until it doesn't run no more. Then you know it's broke.

brushlessboy16 03.04.2009 08:26 PM

now its ticking. and its reallly annoying.. great, now i gotta buy diffs :)

Krawlin 03.04.2009 11:55 PM

Glad to see my MM found a good new home! Also glad to know that it doesn't shut off and on with your setup like it always did in my Maxx.

BTW, do the tranny flip, lock it in 2nd, and mount the ESC in the back, its a much better layout IMO.

mkrusedc 03.05.2009 12:07 AM

FLM hybrid bulks with Hot bodies 1/8 diffs ahve been rock solid for me.

sounds expensive:lol:

George16 03.05.2009 08:26 AM

Search for its-me's thread about using a lst diff on your maxx bulkhead. I think that's the cheapest alternative.
