thanks guys. i cant wait to get it finished.
just a heads up on rampage stuff. dont order from rampagehopups.com i ordered 3 weeks ago and i just keep getting excuse after excuse and i dont even believe the guy anymore. I had heard good things about the owner Rob but he will never get my business again. largescalerc.com on the other hand has been top notch and gets me my parts fast and communicates well. just stay away from rampagehopups.com guys like that piss me off! he just keeps jerking me around. |

so i got this new 4mm blue carbon today. it is 4mm 1k fineweave which is super tough and an outer layer of blue texalium on each side. texalium is an aluminum cloth and the stuff used for fishing rods and other sports equip.
i got this stuff cuz it became apparent that i had to move the front chassis brace to the right side of the drive shaft so the motor mount could sit where it needs to. since i had to move the chassis brace i decided to make a new front top plate. and i most likely will have to make a new center top plate if i go with the mech. brakes off the center diff outdrives. so this blue carbon should be tuff enough and looks cool too. <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=bluecarbon.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/bluecarbon.jpg" border="0" alt="bluecarbon"></a> <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01223.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01223.jpg" border="0" alt="bluecarbon3"></a> you can see in this pic where i had to take off the chassis brace. so the new top plate will just mount the brace to the other side. <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01192.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01192.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat20"></a> |
Looks very nice... Damn that carbon must have been pricey. Sorry if I missed this, but what esc are you going to use.

http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.88...t.A/id.3414/.f These are the tires I just installed, they're pricey but well worth it. You can go with ProLine 40 series, but they are a ton thinner than these and you'll most likely tear the tire before you wear it out. These things last forever and you won't tear them. |
not a bad little custom brushless baja 5b on ebay. probably the cleanest job i have seen outside of the one mike is doing for masterblaster.

If you are looking for a free CAD program, Google Sketchup works pretty well, but the free version won't export to any kind of file format that your machinist can work with. My vote? Go download a torrent of Solidworks and start learning real CAD software. It makes the design process so much easier.

So that front brace mounting hole goes to right side of chassis? |
that could be done but it wouldnt be very clean. all the holes on the top plate are countersunk so flipping it over would put the countersink on the wrong side.
the carbon setup is going to work beautifully and look stellar too. i actually should have the carbon parts done today. i will post pics soon. just got my pinion gears today. just waiting on spur gear. the castle hydra 240hv comes next week. |
Thats unfortunate. I've always had great luck with rampagehopups.com
You don't need adapters. The Rampge axles are the same diameter at Baja axles. You just need to buy (4) Baja rear hexes. I'm running the Dark Soul extended rears. |

idk for sure without seeing all the parts in person what i could do though. do you have a 5b also? or just the rampage. btw, check out all these parts i picked up on ebay from the same guy selling that 5b brushless i posted. i will end up selling alot of it but there were some items that i wanted that i havent been able to find anywhere on the 1/5 sites. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=260442856653 |
Just my Rampage.
You deffinately got a lot of nice parts with that. You can use a piece of 5/32 drill bit as a temp dog bone pin...fits nearly perfect. |
so here is some work from today.
installed stainless screw kit. a few aluminum hop ups. hpi aluminum nuts made carbon front top plate installed MT front bumper. i know its a truggy but this thing needs more protection than a small buggy bumper. bad horsie shock covers upcoming: installing HPI baja swaybar kit carbon rear top deck large enough to mount speed control on mount battery trays custom mud guards <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01233.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01233.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat27"></a> <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01234.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01234.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat26"></a> <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01235.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01235.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat25"></a> <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01236.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01236.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat24"></a> <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01237.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01237.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat23"></a> <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01238.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01238.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat22"></a> <a href="http://s471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/?action=view¤t=DSC01239.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr77/ryujames/DSC01239.jpg" border="0" alt="redcat21"></a> |
I like the front CF brace you made.
You can wire brush that copper color off of the rar hub carriers if you don't like it. I did that to come of my copper stuff. The stock shock shafts are very thin and bend easily. I am running the Baja front VVC heavy safts. They are a little long but you can take that extra lenght up with some tubing under the piston. |
