Thanks! As far as prep goes, here is what I have learned on my few trips with the Slash: 1) The stock driveshafts (sliders) quickly get bound up with fine sand. Once this happens, they no longer plunge and your suspension does not move freely. For this, I have created a diveshaft boot from heatshrink. It is snug enough to avoid the issue, but not tight enough to cause its own binding. I haven't taken it apart to inspect yet, but it was still moving freely after this session. 2) I was concerned about the sand piling up in the chassis, so I tried the JConcepts over-tray. It did a decent job of keeping the sand out, but it is just too small for me. The MMM combo is a very tight fit under the cover and I had significant heat issues in the sand. I then tried the Pro-Line under-tray. That ended up being a big bucket and just collected the sand. I had like 2 inches of sand in the chassis, with just the top of the MMM esc poking out. On this last trip, I ran the chassis naked :oh: No heat issues and no sand buildup. Go figure... 3) I know some people are very opposed to metal gears, but I just couldn't get the plastic spur to live in the sand. Sand inevitably gets inside the gear cover and the plastic spur gets chewed up quickly. I converted my gearing over to steel mod 1 gearing and it has been good for the last 3 trips. |

I'm in Brazil and things take 2 months to get here, so i don't wanna wait all that for a tiny little piece... |
If you have the reg Slash 4x4 get the bell crank, front and rear axle carriers and C-hubs and control arms. Woiuldn't hurt to have 1 or 2 of everything if your shipping situation is what it is ?
If you have the PE Slash 4x4 just get some spare arms or just buy RPM's. I personally haven't broken anything yet, just racing. Friends have broke the steering rack/bell cranks and control arms. The plastic rear carriers look suspect to. |
any idea of a good gearing setup for a mamba max with a 4600kv on 2S?
not looking for high speed since it's only for racing |

Stick with the 3500 VXL motor. Much better off for now.

The TRX 3500 still gets pretty hot but works well. Get a heat sink on it for good measure.
I'm running a 1509 2Y in both of mine on 3s and they run ambiant temps pack after pack. |
Sorry if I'm late to the party, but can anyone tell me how well these run on 3s, right out of the box? And what needs to be upgraded right away? I will only race it a tiny bit, it's mostly for messing around on a budget when I'm out camping and stuff like that. Sold off all my high dollar RC stuff and just want something relatively cheap, easy, durable, and fun right now.
