Well the only thing left over now is the Hospital and it is a permenant VA Hospital now. The base was converted into a "Special" housing area with low income and high end homes built in the same development. So that the rich and the poor can live together. I think the Commissary and the PX are still in operation, but I am not really sure. It is hard to see it now after spending over 7 years working on that base in one way or another. It is like a friend died. I sold both of my homes in Orlando right before the big housing bust and got the hell out of there. Our home jumped from $90K to right at $300K, and then down to $80K in just two years time. I got out just in time with over $100K in my pocket.

We actually lived on the base in navy housing while my dad was being dicharged, around 78 or so. I remeber going to the gym to play basketball. I also remember going to the lake & renting the paddle boats they use to have .

Hey BrianG since this is a relitively new technology and there does not seem to much out there in the way of a charger designed for these cells, maybe once you get a good design setup you might think about making a few of them and selling them on here for those of us who really do not have a safe way to charge the cells we just purchased??? Just a thought, and I would be more than happy to purchase one after you do your testing and determine that your setup works safely & efficiently. So what do you think?

Well, any R/C NiMH charger will work just fine (they are NiMH after all), just set the charge for ~0.3A and a low delta peak value (~3mV/cell). I was just making this for portability. I was planning on starting a new thread showing the final schematic and assembly instructions and letting people make their own if they so chose.

Thanks to everyone getting involved in the LSD AA purchase Sean was able to get a nice size package of cells for us, and mine just arrived today. Thanks Sean for the shipment. Everything looks great and I have the first two sets(of 4) on our Energizer chagers now. I will see how they charge up and then test how well they hold up in some of our remote controls. We got 30 cells so we have plenty to test out and get some long term usage out of. Thanks Sean for helping us all out with these.

My old, very old AA's are beginning to perform very badly. (But they're about 4 years old now, so they had a long life :)) I remembered this topic and I always wanted to buy a few of those Turnigy AA's. But how do they perform on the long term? Who has been using these for a longer time? And should I buy them or not? (I'm planning to buy about 30-40AA's because I need those things so much lol)

Going strong
 
Well I've had mine for two years now and they are still going strong. I have been using them in all kinds of applications and have not had any problems with any of my cells yet. So I say go for it. Most of our rechargable Energizers & our Duracel's have lasted right about two to three years and then it became difficult to get them fully charged. Plus they never really held a charge for very long.

Ditto here. I've been using them in cameras, remotes, WII controllers, etc and they work great. No noticeable loss in capacity. Have no idea how many cycles they have as I just rotate them as needed, but I'd say at least 20 cycles on all of them so far.

They work especially well in remotes where current drain is quite low - with regular NiMHs, you'd get more self-discharge than from the remote current draw.

I got a dime strip (10 cells) of this "hobbyking LSD".

I do not recommend it. Firstly, the pills are hard to swallow. Secondly, it only made me feel sick and I didn't have any hallucinations.

Get LSD elsewhere.:whistle:
