i was reading some descriptions, but i am unsure as to what is accurate!

I was looking at the Leopard 4082 1000kv or 1250kv (42x82mm can)
http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...o-4082&cat=148

But it says that they should only run 25,000-35,000 rpm???

It is a little low right? Because on 9s a 1250kv motor is spinning at 41,000rpm... That seems acceptable right?

Those RPM suggestions are from OSE (off shore electrics), and seem to just be a very general guide line...

In my experience a tame setup is 25-30k, a performance setup is 30-40k, and a screaming setup is 40k and up. I think the higher the RPM the motor peaks at the more aggressive the acceleration is getting to that RPM. I've settled in at around 38-40k for the best compromise of power and run time for most of my rigs :-)

4082/2.5y for 9s ... 4082/3y for 10s ... rpm don't over 50000 !

Part of the difference in diameter is the fins of the CC motor. The rest, who knows wihout internal dimensions on both. Either way the difference in size is too close to have much of an impact. Lack of fins, construction and materials differences would have a bigger impact.

The 4082 is equivalent to a Castle 1518 I think...

Jahay 05.07.2011 05:08 AM

considering i already have 9s worth or lipos... i would most prob go for the 4082/2.5y for 9s
Im just shocked that the size of the can is of that of the 1518!!! Smaller than a 1520! i dont know how well it will be able to cope with my heavier truck... only one way to find out i guess haha

Just out of curiousity... if a motor fails and implodes, would and esc blow too?

nuz69 05.07.2011 05:18 AM

It depends if you stop pushing the trigger in time I think ^^

I use the leopard 4074 2150kv + 3s + ezrun sc8 in a buggy of 4kg in races of about 15min ........... the temperature of the motor is great ..... never up 55cº

I have neus and xeruns and the temperature of the leopard are lower than the others ....... using the correct gearing ;)

leopard 4282 + 9s = will kill the motor sure :p

if you search use this motor in crazy projects I recommend max 4-6s

Dj_Sparky 05.09.2011 12:57 PM

2150kv on 3s is pretty tame, and I don't think any motor whatsoever would get hot with that kind of setup and right gearing.

Regarding the RPM limit from Off Shore... I'd guess its a matter of the application rather than the motor. Think about it... even 25k RPM is mind boggling for a propeller... you need the right prop or you'll just make alot of bubbles :)

Hope it made sense?

for races in 1/8tt you dont need more power than 3s +2150kv ............ in my races people use 2200+4s and 2650+3s and the speed is the same

this is my last race ....... I used a xerun 4274 and the temperature arrived at 65cº....... using the leopard 4074 provably will be 50-55cº

On your track, maybe 3S + 2200Kv is enough... But in classic euro tracks, 4S 2200Kv with high gearing is requiered ^^ ~40-42mph.

Very nice, but I wonder how hot it would get if you pushed it? With, say, 6s and bashing (Not racing obviously..)

Still, the fact that it's colder than Xerun is quite impressive. Xerun's are getting pretty well known for quality, and Leopard is much cheaper than that Xerun motor.

leopard 2000kv 4082 motor

Hi everyone, i was thinking of getting a leopard 2000kv 4082 for my brushless truggy and using it on 4s. The motor will be bought off ebay. I had a look at leopards website and they dont have a 2000kv 4082 motor. Is this motor the 2000kv 4082 only exclusive to kershaw desings?? help will be much appreciated. thanks
matt

That's exactly right, the RPM limit on OSE is regarding boat applications.
