Thanks for the reply.

Does anyone make an already modded Centrifugal clutch?

One more, why do you suppose on the Techno web site it makes it sound SO simple - "...use the 2 speed or dial out 1st gear if you like (just loosen the shift point)"

I like the idea of removing unneeded tranny parts but I feel like the screws will negate any weight or rotating mass savings by removing 1st. If there is an easy way to do it without adding mass, I'm all for that.

Please advise and thanks, you and others like you are a real asset to this community and hobby.

b0gh0s had a site (is down now) where he had a clutch replacement that did the locking, but since the site is down now, don't know if it's still available.

Don't forget, removing first also removes the OWB part, which is kinda heavy. And you are removing the clutch spring, ball bearing, and grub screw. Not to mention filing off the half-moon shapes. The screws do add weight, but is offset by a lot of what was removed. I think there still is a net loss, but cannot verify. At the very least, removing first gear removes a little drag from the OWB and simplifies things.

And this mod is "free"... always the best kind.

But, a machined clutch replacement would be nice. It would be just a matter of machining something that would fit where the clutch goes and have the pins (where the screws go in the mod) engage second gear.

Yeah...hint hint RC Monster Mike!

I just locked my Revo into second gear tonight to use with my 8XL/MM combo and wow was it easy, took me under an hour to do. Great job with instructions on this thread Brian.

So I was never able to find a stronger pin to do the mod. What is everyone else doing?

jnev 05.17.2008 10:20 AM

I am using the pin from the Jato out drives. You just have to drill the hole a little bigger and it works perfectly.

This was the best solution for me: http://rc-monster.com/forum/showpost...3&postcount=59

I really like BrianG's method but I've held back because I hate to buy all those gears just to get the pins. Maybe I'll just wait and see if the stock pins break. My controller has a pretty soft start which should help them last.

BrianG, I just want to confirm the pin mod inside the tranny. I understand you are using 2 pins coming from each side. Now my question is...

Are you using the stock pins? And if you are not, what pins are you using?

Thanks

BrianG 06.11.2008 08:27 PM

Yes, I'm using the stock pins. The FOC comes with two new black pins. Those seem to be harder so I use those where I am only using one pin. Since those black pins replace the stock ones, you then have two spares. Those are the ones I cut down.

I have what you guy's are looking for. A direct drop in, single speed conversion, that requires no mods to install. I had done the "bolt" trick in the past. However, recently someone on another forum asked if anyone made a single speed conversion. I did some reverse engineering, and came up with a plate that replaces the 2nd gear primary clutch. Again, it is a direct drop in, no mods required at all. I have about 30 of them left. Here is a pic; http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2...a/IMG_0162.jpg

excellent write up brian as per usual. will this work on a tekno conversion kit for the revo? you stipulated at some stage for use with the rcmonster motor mount... the tekno one will work with this also?

BrianG 11.21.2008 10:53 AM

Sure. Everything that is done is inside the tranny so there is no difference externally. However, one of the main reasons for this mod is to utilize motor brake and reverse. The Tekno setup uses a clutchbell setup which makes the brake not work, so really, the only mod usable with the Tekno is the "pin mod".

laser_cart 04.04.2009 01:49 AM

Tekno you have to get longer bolts and use spacers between motor mount face plate and struts then get long shank pinion thats what i got to do didn't know it was made that way should have went RC Monster mount

On the pins LOL what is the FOC pins you talked about i will be modifing mine with the two threded ones on each side just wondering FOC or the best you found yet to use

BrianG 04.04.2009 03:13 AM

FOC=Forward only conversion. The Revo has a reverse gear set stock, the FOC just eliminates the reverse parts (and removes a fair bit of weight too). The FOC kit comes with two of those pins, which are black. The stock pins are chrome and seem to not be quite as strong, but that is pure speculation.
