well regardless of whether it's in a plane or on the ground with a fan, they are both air cooled. The main difference is startup of the motor, ground based RC draws much heavier current trying to get the vehicle moving compared to a fan/prop.

I think he wants to use motor brakes.

Jahay 11.08.2010 06:41 AM

I really want this 12s version. BUT i just saw a ice hv 160amp 50V esc for $140!!!! ITS JUST SO TEMPTING!!!! not a good idea to run a 16lbs truck on 9s without brakes though haha

People say they have seen the 8s version out already.. but i havent come across it? anyone have any links?

Sorry to ask but was the car OR boat software for the Ice controllers sqaushed??

Shonen 12.18.2010 09:14 PM

Not sure about the Phoenix software, but the Mamba XL is up on Castle's website.

Looks like a ICE 200 with a fan. It would be great if I could use the software on my ICE 200's so I can use them with my pistol radio's!

brian015 12.19.2010 02:58 PM

You can run your ICE 200 with a pistol radio with this:

pistix

Raydee 12.19.2010 03:12 PM

I have tried the Pistix adapters and I can't get the throttle response correct. I can pull over 1/4 throttle before the motor will move. I also can't get the ESC to see full throttle.

Huh - I've been using a pistix for a while now with an ICE HV 160 with no issues. I didn't have to mess with any adjustments to get it to work - maybe I was just lucky?

Raydee 12.19.2010 03:26 PM

Yeah I have had others tell me that too....bums me out that I can't get it to work. What radio are you using?

Just a simple Tactic 2.4GHz (I started out with a Spektrum DX2 but was unhappy with the range I was getting).

Raydee 12.19.2010 03:48 PM

I am using a DX3R radio. Maybe I will try the new Futaba 4PL radio and see if that does the trick.

DrKnow65 12.19.2010 04:10 PM

Raydee, you may want to see if you have a neutral band adjustment on your radio. I could see if it was set too high causing the issue you are describing :-)

Raydee 12.19.2010 05:17 PM

I did calibrate the radio and there was no difference.

DrKnow65 02.15.2011 10:55 AM

Well, I'm loving my Mamba XL, and being the impatient goof that I am, I am buying a Phoenix Ice HV 120 for my 10SC. I will run it on 8S with mechanical brakes and a 1515/2Y (1100kv).

It sure would be sweet if the Mamba XL software would work on this smaller version  so I could ditch the mech brakes...

Jahay 02.15.2011 11:14 AM

i dont think they will offer mech brakes for HV systems as they cant handle the spikes created by braking... hence they came out with car versions...

You mean motor brakes right?

Jahay 02.15.2011 11:57 AM

NO BRIAN I MEAN MECH BRAKES! haha no only joking... yea how did i do that?

Well im bloody exctited to just get my savage back up and running so i can get the ice hv 160 working!!! 9s on a 1520 is going to be stupid! If i blow one motor, i have another haha... thanks castle ;)

DrKnow65 02.15.2011 12:02 PM

Well, if the Mamba XL is a ICE 200 12S capable controller with software that supports 8S and motor brakes, shouldn't an ICE 120 12S capable controller be able to use the same software for 8S with motor brakes?

Jahay 02.15.2011 12:09 PM

You would think so wouldnt you !
i really dont think it is as simple as that. but honestly im not technical enough to get involved...

snellemin 02.15.2011 12:48 PM

It can be done if Castle really wanted to. The European companies been doing it for a long time.

thzero 02.15.2011 12:56 PM

Yes, extremely so. :) Be curious to see how long it lasts since its rated for 60k, and thats slightly over... not to mention the 125amp rating; but we all know that CC has been underrating stuff to help avoid issues by "normal" users!

I'm curious because I eventually intend to run 8S on an Mamba XL and the 1520 with my 5T conversion, instead of just 6S.

Jahay 02.15.2011 12:59 PM

Well i think 9s should be absolutely fine... and it is only JUST over the rated rpm... considering my mate and many many others run the 2650kv castle motor on 6s which is over the rated rpm limit by 5000-6000rpm
So i think i will actually be absolutely fine!
I heard people running the 1520 on 10s even!!!
And remember thats only over rated at 4.2V not 3.7! so i will rarely be over the limit anyway!

DrKnow65 02.15.2011 01:26 PM

Well, I shouldn't have any issues with the amp rating or motor rpm.

Data log with my Mamba XL in the hyper 7 using 8S lipo and a 1800kv 1518 was a max amp draw of 111a and 55,400rpm.

So a 1100kv 1515 in a SC truck on 8S shouldn't get anywhere near those numbers.

MiamizFinest 02.10.2012 03:41 AM

Was this project scrapped?? Just wondering
