Sorry I don’t want to get ahead of myself!.. Ahhmm.. Gentlemen!, I present to you the… Drum role please!... LOL…….

The Flame Thrower!!!!! :oh: How I did it! and Why ?? LOL.LOL.LOL

So sit back, “light them if you got them” while I walk you through my many, many, many  failures and finally success with system that has (ONLY) one flaw in it! :oh: and when you talking about fire and safety how big of flaw is it?? Well just read on and or see the video HHHHhaaaaa.. and see for yourself.. LOL.LOL.

So this is how it all started out guys was me basically spouting off to the team that Hey I can reach down grab them and pull this off! (actually it was after two bottles of wine) .. but still / no the less many words of encouragement came and then it was time for me to go out and spend money on just about any product I could find that is:

Main requirements:
1. Small in size
2. Aerosol
3. Flammable

I needed to start some where so I figured out the foundation of the flamethrower is the fluid, so which fluid will give me a consistent ignition and large (3-5’) of flame when demanded upon. Well here is a photo of the all different fluids and hoses that were possible canidents for routing as / would be required.

First off the:

WD-40
(Really didn’t do it for me) it only worked about 45% of the time (it only shoot out a steam, if when it’s the mist it’s goes 100% of the time. But that was one of my hurdles to overcome; it had to be a steam of gas or fluid. Therefore it was a contender..

Power green Gas
(This I use for my Mac 11 mag, landmines and grenade for my launcher). Anyway it was just too big in general and it’s pressured @ 400 psi so I figured I really shouldn’t go there anyway..

Bugoff
(Outdoor aerosol can that read flammable) Well its NOT!.. NEXT… this was a big waist of time and money..

Pam.
Worked Outstanding 85 percent!, BOOOO, Booooo.. I was hoping to use this but I needed 1000%.. Next!

Coleman
(camping fuel) This is NO!, NO! NEVER, I repeat NEVER!!! Attempt to use this with this system.. BAD things happen.. It does not keep a seal vertically (ooppsss).. Yes I found out the hard way but at least I still have my eyebrows.. LOL.

Axe body spray
(it an aerosol can that read flammable) Well it’s not but the spray tip / part is and can be used!, I repeat this is worth the price just for the tip mechanism alone. I didn’t use it in my build but it can be used in yours..

Colibri
(Butane lighter fuel refill) This stuff worked toooooo GOOOOOOODD I couldn’t use it, to strong it sacred me!.. (Remember!) I have a 4s 5000 mAH lipo and a 3000 psi air tank that works my paint gun so if this goes wrong it will go wrong fast and in a BIG TIME WAY!..

Silicone Oil Spray:
(This stuff worked Great) it was a runner up!, but failed to make the final cut do to the fact that it had a high flashback (IE) when it’s off how much still burns on the tip (not a good thing!) and it was liquid!, I really wanted to gas.. I didn’t want to leave the burnt trail everywhere I shoot it!. But a great 2nd alterative if your on dirt all the time!? A strong contender..

Tag

Worthless!!.. But I’ll be irresistible to the ladies (so they tell me!) LOL.lOl

Right Guard
(Body spray) Leave it on the body!, it’s worthless for this application!...

Pure All
(Auto Air conditioner Oder Purifier) Ding!, DING, we have a winner!!!! This shoots out GAS!!! (yes!) and it gets cold when it benign used, Yes another plus for me. The thing that really took it over the top was the fact that the trigger mechanism would work (OUTSTANDING!! GREAT!) for both the servo mech and feed to the front / top discharge! But it does have a medium flash point! (Not a good thing!)..

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_4154.jpg

TDC57 11.30.2008 07:28 AM

Ok so now that the source of the flame has been chosen, now I need to figure out a way to get the source to the front the truck (all of the original sources) were / are push button down and side discharge!, well I needed top discharge, so that meant that I needed to push down the can stem and still have a upward charge on a canister that would also be laying on it side. (Well I'm not asking for a lot am I)..

Well after striping down the top that came with the AXE can I learned that OK I can use the (small) plastic part at the end / bottom can for the tip of the but (IT gives it a mist) BIG BAMM.. Now I could use fluid if I wanted to switch up ???, NOPE!, I'm tweaked at this point! I mean (focused) and on a mission and cant be sidetracked buy possible other possibilities at this point. So now I head back the Pure “all trigger system”, DAM this works great!!, I just need to do two things to it in order for it to work for me!.

1. Permanently fill-in the horizontal side discharge nozzle
2. Drill a hole into the top of the it (dead center) so I can use a plastic tube to tap into the center and therefore allowing fluid / gas to run straight up, in lue of sideways..
3. Of course how to mount it (??)

Well after much research with some help of the wine god I Got it!, I got I all figured it! and here is what it looks like..

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_4163.jpg

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_4157.jpg

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_4156.jpg

Ok, Now I need to work on the fire mechanism!. Well LHS was having a sale and I need a servo to work the trigger on the Aerosol can, so I got a Hi-tech HS-645MG (it OK) it’s got 107 oz of torque and all metal gears and for $38.00 worth the money.. But since (MetalMan) was busy I didn’t get the fricken employee discount!! (BOOO, BOOO).. LOL.LOL.. Life moves on..

Now I have the servo, the location, now lets mount it and get it working!..

OK I need to put this tank somewhere it doesn’t get hot or touch anything that is electric and I need to mount it someplace that it fits with the body on and off.. (I'm not asking for a lot am I) LOL.LOL

Got it.. I’ll strap the rear down to the side of the paintball gun and the front I’ll zip tie to the top of the steering brace, allowing half of the front nozzle to rest on top the of the receiver box. Now I needed to mount the servo to a location that would allow it to hit the trigger pushing it down and allowing the gas to escape through the top (without any leaks) and safety exit out the front of the build. I also needed to paint the can to match it new surroundings, I’ll get sticker made up for it later but here is the general idea.

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_4167.jpg

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_4169.jpg

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_4170.jpg

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_4168.jpg

This picture explains that the trigger can be activated by the top as well as the side / frontal..

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_4169.jpg

TDC57 11.30.2008 07:32 AM

Ok, now its all set up!, its been field tested, worked 100% of the time flawlessly,:yipi: pre-tested and set the servo horn and added front stainless steel braided hose to front tip plus installed the body!..

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_4163.jpg

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_4164.jpg

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_4166.jpg

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_4165.jpg

So what do you think ??

I know, I know!, right about now your probably at the stage well OK, it sounds like this bozo got the basics covered!, but how is he going to light it (???)

(THAT my friends) is the $100,000,000.00 question??? How do I light it ??, I tried the glow plug thing / idea nope that didn’t work,(shoot!) I got a great flex lighter but for the life of me I cant figure out how to keep it lit!, I might end up jamming something into it (foam) as al last resort.

Right now I need to actually activate the gas and then physically light it and run back (this sucks) but still provides me with a enough hope that I / WE (YOU) the team can help me figure out how to light it through the build.. I’ll post some still pictures of it flaming tomorrow but now real video unless it’s under 10 sec at this point.. IMO it’s still cool looking at the point I can stand back and let it rip!.. LOL.LOL…. So who’s the first victim, BL (???) HHHHaaaa, HHHHHaaa, Hhaa…

Thanking you all in advance for your great ideas and help..

Shaun.

Do I Add a Mac 11 submachine gun ????

I also figured out a way to mount my new Mac 11 to it but really I was thinking (why??) why even think about adding anything else too it!, I mean really just to recap:

• Dual Smoke (check)
• Tire gouging (check)
• Front ramming spikes (check)
• Grenade Launcher (check)
• Rear net shooting (check) but still in R&D phase
• Rocket shooting (check) but still in R&D phase
• Fully auto paintball (check)
• Flame thrower (check) final stages of R&D (two issues to work out)

So what do you think (?) Yes or No ???

Thanks guys..

P.S.

This is too much fun!! :na:

jordan... 11.30.2008 08:00 AM

That is awesome, nice update Shaun!! Totally worth the wait, if you didn't show the installation of the flamethrower, i doubt anyone would heave recognised it there with the body on. As for keeping it lit, itll be pretty hard to find anything that will keep a constant flame whilst ripping around at 40mph+. Could you hook up another servo to activate the flex lighter? Or maybe run a Y-harness with two servos so when you trigger the gas, the flex lighter gets clicked as well? Tricky one, aren't Zippo's supposed to be windproof...

Cool…

Its not real noticeable then.. :intello:

Thanks for the input Sir…

I was thinking of adding another servo but that means another fricken channel, I'm tapped out now, so do I spend another $400 for an upgraded 8 channel radio is really not high on the priority list, I need to pay property tax, income tax, sate & fed tax and I'm sure I forgot a few other ones I haven’t thought of yet, so what else you got??:lol:

Also, thanks for the kind words Sir and the suggestions, I'm going to try to figure out the lighter thing, I thing It’s my best bet moving forward..

No the less I’ll post a quick video of it throwing flames in a few hours / when it’s light out.. :eyes:

Have a great one Sir..

Shaun..

jordan... 11.30.2008 08:20 AM

Wouldn't a Y-harness mean two servos are working off of the same channel, so you wouldn't have to get another radio? Totally can't wait for vids, should be insanely cool :intello:

JERRY2KONE 11.30.2008 09:17 AM

keep it up.

Yeah keep it up Shaun, you are on the right track. The Y harness seems like the correct answer to me. The Department of Defence will be calling you soon for military prototyping.:rofl: We can look at your creation two ways. Why?? and what the F&$*% is that?? The more I look at this thing the more confused I get. It is very cool the way you have worked everything into your design Shaun. It is impressive to see your workmenship. It truly is a nice project, and even a work of art, but are you going to put it to use any time soon??? Are you guys planning sime kind of battle truck bash in the New Year? What is going on with this masterpiece?? Just curious as to what motivated you in this direction??

MetalMan 11.30.2008 12:59 PM

Uh-oh :surprised:. Looks like I'm gonna have to keep my distance from you at the next bash...

_paralyzed_ 11.30.2008 01:44 PM

why add the Mac 11? Why not! Tanks have smaller caliber guns, your paintball gun being your main turret, you need the mac 11 for close up shots. Keep the ideas coming.

jnev 11.30.2008 11:08 PM

Holy sh*t! Didn't think you could fit any more gadgets on to it. Looking forward to the video, and of course, seeing it at our next bash.

So is there a video of this true monster truck destroying anything yet? I personally think it would be great to see a whole fleet of these things cage fighting it out...sort of like BattleBots...minus the rules.:diablo:

Gee 12.01.2008 12:30 AM

Nice work Shaun. What wine have you been drinking that give you such insperation and ingenuity? How about a pen toarch for you flame. I would think they would last long enought to start a wildfire or make a smore.

Something like this
http://microtorches.ayay.com/Solderi...orchPT130.html

Here you go. The package say it will run for 15min on a full tank.

http://cgi.ebay.com/TWO-REFILLABLE-B...QQcmdZViewItem

Control a flame of 2000 degree F with pinpoint accuracy. This one indicates and hour run time. Holy crap! With 4 different nozzles!

BL is making one too so if and when he completes his will do a battle to death!, that should make for some fun viewing..

LOL… Thanks for the input!! I was just worrying about doing to much or crossing the line of WHAT the F%#!. Of course I can add just one, I’ll need to add on both sides wont I ????

Have a great one and thanks again for the compliment and words of encouragement..

Shaun.

Well I cant drive and shoot fire out at the same time, I’ve tried and I finally had to stop when I almost caught my whole build on fire.. LOL.LOL.. Got to love the R&D phase.. But I can still get you with the paintball at any range.. LOL.LOL..

Have a great week Sir..

Het Jerry
Thanks for the great words of encouragement and flattery, your too kind..
.. LOL.LOL I know this build gives you issues on a couple of different levels, I'm sorry sir I’ll try to explain (why the build to begin with):

To be the first one to max out an RC to its full capabilities
To do something outside of the box that no one has ever done before
and I wanted the ultimate RC TOY!, something so outrageous that it works on many levels of coolness. A Man’s TOY!, a toy that can kick ass and not even worry about taking names..

And just think about the reaction at the next RC expo when I have this thing sitting out for display at Mikes table, IMHO it will blow everybody away!.
That’s why and it’s stupid fun.. At least to me it is..

Have a great week Sir and thanks again for your time and words of encouragement..

Shaun.

Hey Jordan,
I'm sorry Sir It was so light last night I didn’t get what you were saying.. GOT it now.. Thanks… but I think GEE figured it out for me!! I’ll see tomorrow how the his idea works..

Thanks again for your time and thanks again for your help and suggestions Sir, please keep them coming..

Hey guys,
Here a short Teaser video of the flamethrower in action.. :intello:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVXvFb1jWMo

I'm editing the making off video now and the cool thing is I set fire to another RC truck and I see how well Major Tang can take the heat!.. FYI he goes up FAST!,:oh:  it’s pretty cool he & the RC melts away to nothing. :na: :intello:

Anyway I’ll post some great fun video of it in the next day or two.. :mdr:

Thanks for your time everybody and have a great week.. :intello:

Shaun.

lincpimp 12.01.2008 02:39 AM

This is getting out of hand Shaun... Great, I love it!!!!

Anyways, I think you need to rig up a rear facing jet that sprays oil out. That way anyone following will loose a bunch of traction... Plus it would look like the battle truck is taking a leak...

What's_nitro? 12.01.2008 02:42 AM

When will you install a self-detruct system to prevent all this from falling into the wrong hands????

Thanks James... :intello:

So I haven’t gone / crossed that line of insanity yet!, that good to know..:lol:.

That's a great idea, but I was thinking of setting up a rear spray to "prime the trucks with" that way if they came close the flame they would ignite! :oh:

but I'm thinking Rich, Travis, Josh, etc, wouldn’t appreciate it if I bar b Q’ed there builds..

HHhaaa, HHHhaaa that good.. But NO I'm not too worried about it falling into the hands of the KGB or alkida!..

I'm am expecting / wouldn’t be surprised if someone from freds stopped by at my door one day, but that’s a long shoot at best..

As for the self destruct, I’ve got this feeling I’ll push it too far one day and it will self destruct all on it’s own..:gasp:

e-rev project 12.01.2008 04:28 PM

i have had a the blue pencil torch before and i must say, its very inconsistent, and sometime will not light at all. i have had mainly bad experiences with them. they are cheap, and i have had more than one

i was thinking of a small soldering butane torch like
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=3086616

i figure it would be self covered (so wind resistant) and should be able to light the gas easily
hope this helps

beautiful build by the way, i am very happy you have taken it this far

TDC57 12.03.2008 04:21 PM

Will this do much damage??

I think I found my next Battle Truck addition!!!

It puts out 1.2 million volts! :gasp:

But before I get it I was just wondering what kind of damage this would do to our electrical builds. Would this be enough to stop / instantly fry the internals of our / BL-RVO machines??

I was thinking for mounting this up front / In lew of the ramming spikes.. What do you think??

I could have it mounted up testing within two – three weeks tops!..

Man I love this hobby!.. :intello:

Thanks for your time and have a great everyone

Shaun.

You Are Sick.

I think you have some kind of desease or something Shaun. It is like watching a modern day Frakenstein monster being born. Nice stungun, but I would think that a tazer would be better suited for your build so you can incompacitate your apponenets from several feet away. Then once you stop theri movements you can torch them.

thephilonator 12.04.2008 03:17 AM

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

a 1.2 million volt stungun and a flamethrower and many other v/dangerous weapons on a rc

Shaun, you need to calm down.

i wouldn't go there with the stungun on the rc but i'd buy one anyway just for random occasions.

also, is the mac 11 a paintball gun or a real gun? paintball i'd consider but NO WAY if it's a real mac11. just TOOOOOOOO dangerous.

finally, the flamethrower in the vid looked a bit weak, i was expecting it to shoot a metre long line of flame but it only managed less than a foot. so you'd have to have the intended victim very close to the truck to do any damage.

listen to yourself....you talk about the dangers of the stungun and mac11 and then you nonchalantly say that the flamethrower is "weak" as if every RC car has a flamethrower and that it needs to shoot at least 1 meter to do any real damage. come on, which is more dangerous, a stungun or flamethrower? with a stungun you are gauranteed to live but who knows what the outcome could be with that flamethrower. haha!!

just thought it sounded ironic.

OK soooo that’s a NO on the 1.2 million volts (got it)

NNNoooo  that Mac 11 is a airsoft / bb gun, my 8 year old shoots it in the back yard. I don’t own a real gun for protection, I’ve got three dogs who take care of that for me!.. LOL.LOL..

just thought it sounded ironic.

I'm taking this as a YES VOTE :lol:

Hahaha 1.2million Volts ...i think the one more in danger are the RC drivers that might get hit by the tazer or stun gun

I may sound crazy but i think the tazer nor stun gun wont have any effect on an RC build unless you hit the wiring or ESC heatsink or the motor. For the small current to take effect the 2 contact must have a full short or closed circuit. I maybe wrong though...I just remembered mythbusters

Technically, with dry air having a dielectric constant of 1000V/mm, you could completely electricute a truck just by getting the electrodes on either side of it.

But, by the looks of the design of that stun gun, it is most likely just two "smaller" 600KV coils; one at either end. The way it is setup you would never have a 1.2MV potential generated, only two separate 600KV potentials. That's why in the demo pictures on their site you see two little arcs and not one HUGE arc. You could work around this "design flaw" by taking one terminal from either end (one + and one -) and relocating them to the opposite side, respectively. This would allow the unit to develop the FULL 600KV potential of each coil before it fired, and would make two individual arcs across the stun gun terminals. Have fun!!!!

well it's just that i was expecting the flamethrower to look stronger and throw the flame further. i guess i was just a little dissapointed.

@TDC: good to know you haven't crossed into the realm of complete stupidity and you're not going to put a real Mac 11 on the truck. but even tho it's airsoft, do u need another gun on Project Overkill

but it is Project Overkill, so you might as well add it.
