It slides even better on dirt. Yeah I was really intending to take the video or post up, but I had the camera and my dad said sure he'd record ( sorry the camera doesn't focus zoom in video mode at all). Will hit the BMX today with video! Hopefully will be up today or tomorrow. I'll get some vids from the street aswell, I think most will be surprised how I can get the rear to rotate with alittle brake imput even on asphalt. I'll also take a of myself manually surpressing the suspension then recording the rebound speed.

It does handle good in the grass though, lets see it in the dirt. |

Really havent't figured out the proper way to take a video, I'm learning, and there is useable info.

Hey Zack, I think your trucks handles quite well:yes:... where jumping is concerned, as said before by others, the way you land the truck will help to 'reduce' grounding out.
I did notice one or two of your landings helped with good roll out when the rears touched down first, but when you hit all four at once, it was a lot more violent and the truck bounced out of control as a result. I think it was nitrostarter that said it would be better for you to jump ramp to ramp, and I can see why he said that. looking at the asphalt vids, I can see that the truck will need a little more pre-load on the rears (and maybe even the fronts with all the squatting during deceleration). Alien |
The jumps in this video, especially the second one really tick me off. It seems to me as though even when I do touch down on the rear wheels the supension is too soft which makes it bottom HARD(its audible most of the time!!!!) and bounce out of hand. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...h_100_1041.jpg

I too think the suspension is setup pretty well. Maybe some professional fine tuning could help but that would do it for me. Like was previously stated, its all about learning to drive and jump the truck. Learning how it will react in the air and how you can correct its orientation in the air to better the landing.
For example, look at any professional sport like Motocross or rally car racing where jumping is involved. What happened to MotoX riders when they miss their landing ramp or overshoot them, more than likely a disastrous landing and possible injuries. Take that into account while jumping. Use the downside of the ramp, don't try to over power the jump and jump across the track. Its all about throttle control and laying power down. It sure is cool to fly across the track but its not made for that. |
Great advice guys! I'm glad you said what you did. I'm really proud of the truck with its performance and mainly the durability, but I really want the landings to be alot more plush. I'm going to get 4 more Super Shocks.
I'd like to add- that the track is a huge BMX track. |
River what do you think? How do you think I should set up the scale? Should I just use a simple bathroom floor digital personal weight scale and just suspend each end of the truck on it?
|
Not sure what you are doing? but if your weighing it to check how its balanced. I would weigh each individual tire and the front 2 and rear 2. While your @ it might as well weigh left 2 and right 2 also. Dont forget to weigh the whole truck either so we have a baseline. Probably going to need a postal scale of some kind though most human scales wont work right.
|
I'm going to confirm that the truck is balanced in at least a reasonalbe manor as per your request, seeing how you can't feel it with your hands to tell it is balanced.
I've got a postal scale that goes up to 2lbs. |
I personally would rather more weight be toward the front because when you are on the throttle weight transfers toward the rear. If its balanced sitting still I guess thats all right if its sitting still. When weight transfers its normal for the truck tool squat in the rear.

I broke my inductor!
|
Whats that?
|
http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...karyia/010.jpg
Can you see the crack in it guys? I've heard Patrick call it an inductor and it apparently its a magnite? But, what does it do? |
where is a crack? do you mean the black thing? I think that's the bec.
|
Its a bad picture I'll get another one 2moro.
|
Yeah, that inductor is for the onboard BEC circuit; essentially what it does is filter the BEC PWM circuit to dampen any higher frequency 'noise', or EMI is what it is called. If it doesn't have one, you could get alot of interference fed into the Rx. I doesn't look like it is damaged to a point where is wouldn't work, in fact, I don't think I would even worry about it.:smile:
|
Yeah, looks like just a small chip on the plastic casing- assuming the esc still works, then just put a dab of plasti-dip or hotmelt glue over it to seal it up again. Got any padding under the esc?
|
Did you fix it Zack?
|
Quote:
Yeah I have padding under the ESC but the 4 shocks I'm using are just not enough! 4 more super shocks are on the wish list! I'm going to fix the fan and give it a careful go. |
Thanx, Neil yeah hot glue is what I used. ESC still works great, just gets hot without the fan. I'm thinking about cutting the top of the case off to expose the heat sinks alittle, whats the public opinion on that? Not gonna jump much until I can get 4 more super shocks for the sake of the poor ESC getting raddled again.
Lookie: 40 Series Mashers rapped around Weld racing zero off set 23mm hub 40 series Cheyenne wheels This is how I justified getting them incase you are wondering. I posted this in that other forum a few months ago. Quote:
This is as good as humanly possible. Really wrinkly, ticking me off a bit, however after testing it I found it to be perfect. NO MORE Ballooning! http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...a/100_1082.jpg I love this image! Can you figure it out? http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...a/100_1084.jpg http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...a/100_1087.jpg Tight heavy duty rubber bands to help in the glueing process. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...a/100_1085.jpg See the crome hub cap on the wheel to the bottom right? Pretty neat, probably gonna run without for practicality sake. Still the blue 23mm nut the the upper left corner looks pretty rockin. http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...a/100_1089.jpg http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...a/100_1079.jpg http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...a/100_1075.jpg http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...a/100_1078.jpg http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...a/100_1076.jpg More pics 2moro, I cleaned the truck body. |
Looks great!!!!!!! I love the 40 series Mashers!
|
Zack, that looks sick... Talk about 'Built Ford Tough'... love the new wheels man.

My family is going to the mountains Thursday so I wanted to be ready! My cousins from GA are coming and they are bringing Losi trucks a BL 8T and 2 BL XXXTs! Its gonna be a good weekend in the mountains! |
Make sure you gear accordingly for those 40 series Mashers. I know they are heavier and will heat things up if geared too high.
|
Quote:
|
Zack, did you actually re-gear after adding the new wheels? I think nitrostarter was recommending going down a tooth or two to compensate for the extra load.
|
Nice ride Zack!
Did you use extra wide fiber tape on the tires.. looks like? Is it possible at all to tape without turning the tire inside-out? I've been putting it off, I really need to do it. |
Quote:
|
I had considered cutting, say 3 inch strips, and overlapping by like 1/4". It would be a headache I'm sure, but if you could do it inside the tire it would eliminate most of the wrinkling. I need to take one apart and just have a look and quit being a wuss about it lol. Strapping tape would be better, I have plenty of 3/4' wide fiber tape, but that would be a lot of pieces...
I know most people hate Zombie Max tires, and they do balloon at ~30. But after well over a year they show almost no wear. And traction that could almost climb walls... Looks real good Zack, never enough $ for this stuff is there? Try and get some video on your mountain adventure! |
Quote:
Most people I've encountered love Zombies just never buy em. Really. Badlands normally get the job. Although they roll far to much for me as I have said. So I would have likely been happier with Zombies as far as badlands go. My next tire will be a truggy tire for performance when needed around truggs. Tell me about the $! Here's my wish list: UE steering the Proline is great but I need alittle more. 8mm stubs because I bent one of mine Maybe full front and rear racerX with set back high impact style for the 8mm cvds and added length and geometry and bling of course MAYBE 7075 t6 billet bulks so that I can use 7075 Knuckleheads 4 more super shocks Lite Racing shoes and wheels Couple more bodies 1 bashing 1 racing RCM cdmotor mount and maybe slipperential Maybe some lighter ball joints. A RX box for the hideous wires everywhere. Fan for MMM Maybe home-made custom made batt boxes Maybe some badlands straped up to some skinny wheels and taped. I've got a crazy idea, check it out: I might cut off the battery trays so that I could lose the weight and could strap the batts to the sides of the chassis rails like on a Flux with some protective batt boxes!!! Would make For some awesome C.O.G! Then if I wanted I could mount the batts up like one set is now behind the tranny over the monoblock inline for some hot bashin! Would be on my way to one ultimate one of a kind truck! Whats the public opinion on that?!! |
I like the side saddle idea is there enough room height wise. What do you need about 160 mm with the box and all?. Have you seen the build wher the guy basically made a LCG flm chassis with carbon fiber. That thing was trick.
|
Quote:
If the braces don't have the height I will just go above, you know let them stick up above the upper deck. I'm thinking of using something off THIS KD PAGE What do you guys think? Maybe the Flux saddle trays? |
Hey Zack... You can use the below setup as reference for your mod... I know for fact lowering the FLM's CG will make a big difference.
http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...ntruth/top.jpg http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...h/IM000507.jpg The actual thread - RC-Monster Maxx - Part Deux Hope this helps... |
WOW I can't stand it!! I will do this!!! Saddle style will be harder than I thought as there is alittle bit of the top plate that can not really be cut off. I think I will widen my center skid to kind of rest the batts on not necessarily use it as a tray though.
Serum Edition! <img src="http://lh3.google.com/buikpijn/R64aGbAnm3I/AAAAAAAABGY/xGZGY2PMDHk/s800/CIMG6139.JPG" /> Serum's LOW COG FLM |
You can make a new gear box skid from a piece of 1/8 aluminum sheet, hang it off spacers and have 'wings' extended from it to facilitate bolting the battery trays on.
|
BOMB-PROOF comes to mind! Thinking of doing the winged center skid in lexan...
|
Aluminum!!! :yipi:... The finished product will so much better than lexan...
|
Aluminum is the most difficult for me to get. How do you cut aluminum? I've got lexan and I know people who can cut it for me. (i might can cut it myself) How do you cut it anyway? I could order a big 3mm thick sheet of carbon fiber from FullForce. But how would I cut that? Also how do you countersink the screw holes in all three materials? I see some of how you did the cf but I'd like to know in more detail.
