Right on,Can I ask what tires your running? I have the stock kyosho inferno tires and I'm told that the ofna ones are twice as good...but which ones the slicks or those treaded ones? I just bought a set of proline road rage tires and theres no point in even tying to run them cause they are a larger diameter and will rub the body bad plus they are super soft which means they will balloon like crazy (I'll use em on the buggy).

I am currently using a set of wheels and tires that came on my HB Lightning Street. The are a harder, thicker rubber than the road rages, and may not even have foams. They do not balloon much if any, and offer decent grip. They work well on various surfaces, and seem to be wearing very well. I also have a set of road rage tires and will give them a try.

If you get a chance toss a picture of your car on here and lets give her a look.

Ok, the car was originally a mbx buggy. I swapped the center diff out for a solid center with the 51t plastic spur. I currently have revo shocks on the front, and need to put them on the rear too. Motor mount was whipped up in a few minutes and the battery tray was left over from the buggy. Using a MM with a fan and a cc bec. Temps are decent, the big kb can sure pull some amps, I can only imagine how the xl models are...

Cool There should be an on road section here for us road warriors!

Finally got around to binding my DX3r radio to the receiver in the UltraGTP and found a bug with the channel mixing. You cannot reverse the aux channel servo direction when slaved from either the throttle or steering. So, it looks like I'll have to keep using the DX3.0 for this project... or come up with a way to reverse the servo electronically or mechanically.

TruckBasher 09.13.2008 08:52 PM

I know you will have a mech. solution for it but maybe a temporary elec solution will work...

not sure how compatible they are with DX3r
EMS
FUTABA

or something like that...

If you are referring to the "nitro", that is a friend of mine with his Racer2 that does 107mph!! If you look under "Chamo's RS4" in the tube, there is 103 pass on there.

BrianG 09.15.2008 07:56 PM

Yeah, I'm referring to the nitro. I'm sure they can be fast and powerful, I just don't like 'em.

speedracer1129 09.15.2008 07:59 PM

I played with them for 2 many years. I have no interest for them anymore either!!

BrianG 09.19.2008 12:09 AM

I'm thinking of putting this project on the market. Kinda need a little extra cash and this is just sitting around just collecting dust. I still don't have lipos for it, and don't know when/if I will. I've only run it in the basement for about 20-30 seconds. Everything would go as-is minus the receiver, plus whatever extra parts I have. So, just testing the waters here to see if there would be any interest. It's not technically for sale yet, but may soon be depending on how many PMs I get...

killajb 09.19.2008 07:34 AM

How funny..! PM me with a price please..:mdr:

BrianG 09.19.2008 10:08 AM

PM sent.

BrianG 09.29.2008 04:21 PM

killajb was nice enough to send me the couplers (with shocks still attached!), but sadly, they are too small in diameter to fit over the shock bodies. I'll still use them in a future project, but I was just thinking of this when the solution hit me - and it was so simple, I had to laugh at my stupidity. I'll just get a couple of those spring top bushings, and glue two together - the parts in the top right corner of this pic:

http://www.nitrohouse.com/catalog/images/mugc0588.jpg

The GTP uses threaded bodies so it doesn't have those, but the ones from the Mugen (or any other similar vehicle) should work just fine as long as the diameter is right...

BrianG 11.20.2008 01:40 AM

Well, I ran the GTP today for a little while in a parking lot and I have to say WOW! It's so fast it is hard to control. So easy to break the tires loose to drift it's ridiculous.

Everything was working fine until one of the rear tires exploded. The flapping rubber literally tore my Hercules BEC off the chassis (breaking the zip tie). Not only that, but it actually ripped the heatshrink off the BEC! Luckily (and surprisingly), there's only a little scratch on the BEC output capacitor. Still works despite being manhandled and then thrown ~20ft away. Tough little buggers.

Also, I found that I stripped 1st gear spur. Seems the motor was not meshed perfectly or the mount was not as tight as I thought. So, I gotta replace that. Not too bad for a day out.

Going fast is fun, but it's just too uncontrollable. I'm seriously thinking of redoing it to run on 6s and going to motor braking (and going to single-speed setup). Should lighten it up a bit by using a smaller battery tray, smaller pack, and removing the brake servo/linkage/mount.

lincpimp 11.20.2008 01:44 AM

Hmmm, I will swap ypu the single speed setup (brand new) for your 2 speed...

I can include both steel and plastic 51t spurs...

BrianG 11.20.2008 01:47 AM

I'm still thinking about it, but that sounds like something I'll do. It's gonna be a week or two before I get the replacement spur, but I can include the RCM dual speed pinion as well...

No prob just let me know.

I run a single speed in my gtp with a kb 45 8l and it does fine. I use the plastic spur, very quiet. Plus it hadles the torque of the kb just fine. It is geared to do 50+ and never has any issues, even with a MM on 4s. I have another gtp which is brand new, but i would like to run a 2 speed on it.

JERRY2KONE 11.20.2008 02:29 AM

A Fun Day.

Hey there BG it sounds like you had a little bit of a fun day. We all know that breaking stuff is just part of the madness. At least you know how to fix things when it breaks. A lot fo people in this hobby get into it thinking that it is just flat out play time until something breaks on them. It is cool to see you excited about your new toy. Something different, Right???

Arct1k 11.20.2008 09:09 AM

BG you can also pick up a spool on ebay for next to nothing - the two speed kit sells for a fortune...

BL_RV0 11.20.2008 07:38 PM

I can't find any spools on ebay. Do you have a link?

I guess I bought them all lol. Ofna's part number is 33020. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXBZN2&P=SM or http://www.nitrohouse.com/parts,_ultra_gtp.htm.

BrianG 11.21.2008 12:05 AM

Well, I did a little shopping today and found that the single speed unit is only like $20, while the 2 speed is around $90! So, I just ordered the single speed along with a few other parts.

I have decided too; I am going to downgrade this to 5s, motor brake, single speed. So, I'll have a few FS items in a few minutes.

Bad news too. I noticed that the HV-110 has a blown cap. The top is popped and the insides are hanging out. None of the others are even puffed, so I wonder if it was just weak to begin with. Anyway, looks like Castle will be getting a package in a few days.

The going fast thing was sorta fun, but no reverse is a PITA and there was just too much power.
