My Hobao Hyper ST Pro conversion
So this is what I have done...
Let the pictures speak... Heres where I started, bought it used from Spain. http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2742.jpg Heres how it should look like, going to be pretty tight. http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/DSC00186.jpg http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/DSC00185.jpg Modded servos positions and tray, and test fitting battery trays. Also flipped centerdiff. http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2757.jpg http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2756.jpg And another pictures, of that tight place. http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2763.jpg http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2762.jpg Brakes wont fit, yet... http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2761.jpg http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2758.jpg Currently car is "broken", that cheap motor just died, lost its magnets. Going for Medusa Afterburner V2 80mm 2200kv, that should do it. Changes after those photos are minimal, just need that new motor and realised, that battery leads will fit better if I flip batterys. Those mechanical brakes are currently "emergency" brakes, if receiver losts connection, those will aply, as I dont have 3-channel mixing. Some specs: Batterys: Zippy-R 4S 4800mAh x2 Gears: 12/52 Centerdiff: Spider, Losi 30k Motor: dead KD36-74-06XL 2800kv |
Now brakes WILL fit.
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2764.jpg http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2765.jpg Making brake links, now servo is flipped, as its not like that in pic. http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2766.jpg Making battery trays, from 1,5mm alu. http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2773.jpg http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2772.jpg Everything in place except MMM. http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2775.jpg http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2777.jpg After little drive in snow. http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2792.jpg http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2790.jpg http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2794.jpg |
Looks like you had fun . Your truggy looks good.
|
you got some cojones drivin it in the snow like that lol, but i guess you need it for that motor lol, so your runnin two 4s in parralel? for 9600 mah? that alot of runtime lol, does make it look cramped tho
|
Top work, good to see you make your own battery trays
|
Someone who is not afraid of snow I see:rofl:.
Nätti auto muuten!:yipi: |
While waiting for my Medusa 80mm to be finished, I put torsen in center...
Torsen it self is by Hong Nor, gear is from HPI Hellfire and is modded to fit that torsen. With that torsen, i had to get rid of mechanical brakes, as that torsen didnt had outputs that would fit brakedisc's, anyway those were just for "just in case". Here its fitted to chassis, that gear is 52t and it fits chassis if you raise centerdiff about 1,5mm. http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2870.jpg http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/IMG_2871.jpg |
Got my Medusa 80mm 2200kv today, with 4S its just great, it never got over 25C with heatsink and outside temperature ~-5C, running 14/52 gears.
I had Keda motor in it just before, and it had temps 45C with 12t pinion, some difference there, Medusa is solid quality. I have HotRacing pinions, just keep away from them, if you dont own blowtorch, as those are not hardened. I just stripped that 12t... http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...h_Kuva0019.jpg Now i have hardened 14t and its durable. |
Is it just me or do the wires on the batteries look a little small?
|
Well, you know chinese "quality", someway you gotta compensate poor copper...
Those are Zippy-R lipos, those arent even sold anymore, dunno why. |
Uploaded little video, from test drive.

Made some update about body, here are some pics.
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...h_Kuva0036.jpg http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l1...h_Kuva0037.jpg It looks like Revo now... truggy with monster body. Color are going to be something like green and black. |
Jabe,
How is the torsen diff holding up to BL power? How many runs do you have on that Torsen diff? What batteries, gearing, motor kv did you use most while running the torsen diff? Would you recommend the torsen to others? Data is appreciated. Thanks. |
Torsen is holding pretty good, changed oils after ~2h, i thought i do break-in. No wearing to be noticed.
It works great on launch, it does wheely for less than 0,5 sec and then off it goes. My gearing is about stock, changed torsen spur to 52t (had to be made) and pinion is 14t, motor is Medusa 36-80-2200kv with 2x 4S Zippy-R 4800mah 25C. I dont know if its torsen or my chassis rear balanced, but it understeers. Well its pretty hard to say yet, how it does, as we have snow on ground here, so not much traction, to test transmission strenght. But yeah, for those who suffer from front wheels ballooing with open centerdiff and wheelies with solid centerdiff, torsen is great choise. I use HongNor (OFNA) torsen. There is many other brands, prices go 60-200€. Torsen is more common centerdiff in RC Formula Offroad and front/reardiff in Buggy competitions. edit. I have upgraded torsen's bolts that hold spur from 3mm to 4mm. To make it more durable. |
Your truggy looks awesome, am really liking the truck body on it, can't wait to see it painted
