Lipo Shoot-out?

http://www.bigsquidrc.com/the-cub-re...ur-week-in-rc/

bottom 3 paragraphs...finally...someone putting different lipos brands to the test under one roof....anyone know if Mike submitted his? He should... and it should be interesting if maxamps submits their lipos:no:

I wonder what they will use for a test bed?

Bondonutz 06.25.2009 10:44 AM

Now that will make some great informative reading ! Finially somebodys stepping up to take on this challange for a in-depth fair test and the Lipo Co's are on board too.
Wonder if HobbyCity will participate ?
Hope it will be 4s & 5s tests and not just everybodys 2s Lipo's ?

I can't help but be pessimistic about this. I have a feeling that MaxAmp$ will $win$ the competition, but not becau$e they're lipo$ outperform the other$.

As I'm looking at that page, there is a huge MaxAmps advertisement on the side. I'd like to hope that BigSquid will do their best to be impartial, but that has to be hard when money is coming in from one of the participants.

The shootout needs to be done by a company with no affiliation with any of the vendors.

If MA somehow loses, I will have a newfound respect for BigSquid.

I am sure Maxamps will provide their lates 40,000mah 2s80p pack to compare to everyone elses 5000mah pack. Then all they will focus on is the 15hr runtime, and not the weight/size. I have seen way too many comparison testes that do not pit equally rated products together. Plus how are going to test the packs? To destruction? And 1 or 2 cycles is not really very useful, I want to see graphs that can be overlayed from the the 1st cycle to 100+ cycles. I hope the squid can produce... I really do.

Bah, all this focus on battery tech. All we need to do is make a device that will efficiently transmit power to the vehicle wirelessly. No need for heavy batteries, and can run as long as you want. Think outside the box people!

zeropointbug 06.25.2009 12:25 PM

Well, technically you can.... I've done it myself.

hootie7159 06.25.2009 03:07 PM

Like somehow turn the lexan car bodies into one big bash proof solar panel???? Lol

FastXR 06.25.2009 03:19 PM

Really long extension cord?

BrianG 06.25.2009 03:31 PM

I know: Coils embedded into the track surface. Orient them so the flux field faces up and the vehicle also has a coil and it induces power into the vehicle. Would have to be high frequency for distance, and narrow focus, and inductor size...

hootie7159 06.25.2009 03:35 PM

Wouldn't that be like slot car technology on steroids???

FastXR 06.25.2009 03:38 PM

What about an electrified grid over top, like street cars or bumper cars? Im not volunteering to marshall though!

BrianG 06.25.2009 03:44 PM

I can see it now: Races canceled due to vehicle jumping too high and mashing the grid.

BrushlessReady 06.25.2009 03:46 PM

it is called the tesla coil
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesla_coil

zeropointbug 06.25.2009 05:51 PM

Right on the money BrushlessReady...

I used two identical Tesla coils, one powered transmitter, and one receiver.... placed ~25 feet apart, I lit up a 100watt bulb to about 60watt brightness.

This was the crudest setup you can get as well! Imagine what could be done with millions, billions of funding. Tesla had a dream...
