Kershaw Designs?
who runs there motors? im looking for somthing to run in my mayhem st just for bashing and i love the price :)
ill be running 6s with the xerun 150a. I was thinking of the 44x74 9xl or the std size 36x74 10xl . will there be a huge difference in torque between the 2? |
Dan over at kershaw swears up and down that his kd motors are not just rebadged feigaos, and that they were built specifically for him.
This may be true, they are a unique color and have kd specific badging. However, they have the exact same specs as feigaos, and are physically the exact same size. I wish he were a member here, I don't want to speak bad of him or his products, I have had very good dealings with him and got some killer custom work done fairly cheap. My heart of hearts tells me these motors are no different internally than a feigao, and it's what's inside that counts. Buy one and show us an inside pic!! |
just rember when buying brushless motors, you get what you pay for
|
I have had no luck when dealing with Dan, and I have tried on many occasions. Personally I'd consider other alternatives.
|
Wasn't there issues with those motors when revving over 30k? or was it 40k?
9xl (1695 kv) x 22.2v = 37629 revs 10xl (1660 kv) x 22.2 = 36852 revs That's good revs with a good motor but I don't know much about those ones. |
I e-mailed Dan and asked what specifically is different about his line of motors. I will post his response when I get it.
|
I'm pretty sure they're re-badged KD motors. Dan is a good guy to work with, he has always replied to my E-Mails quickly and been very helpful. I'm a little unsure on some of his setups, using multi-speed transmissions in an electric for example, but his stuff seems to work well.
|
More than one way to skin a cat guys... Not to say that Dan's stuff won't get the job done, but the finished product will speak for itself. I have owned a few of his chassis and motor plates and they will get the job done. Not on the same level as rcm products though. As for the motors, they will be feigao clones of some sort, so they will perform as well or worse. A xl 36mm motor with a kv around 1500 will be ok for 6s. I used a feigao 14xl on 8s and it did well. If you can swing the extra money get a castle 2200kv motor, and just gear down if you want to run 6s.

What kind of problems do the feigao motors have? Any body know anything about the bigger 44mm motor?

The 44 and 45mm versions are just larger pieces of crap. All that being said, all of us have owned and ran several feigaos, with dilligent care it can be done. A higher quality motor is much more resilient to gearing changes and load, proper test runs and temp monitoring are still necessary, but once you are set up you can run without worries. With a feigao you always wonder, "Is this the day my motor will die", and it very well could be. |
well the only thing I've found that is close to the amount of $$$$ I want to spend is the medusa 36-70 but since there not making them any more it makes me nervous buying one.
|
Check out the neu motors website. They are filling a gap there with medusa.
