1/8th X1-CR Project
 

Hello. I am just starting my Jammin X1-CR BL Project! I am going to race against other 1/8th nitro buggies and will probably also bash it quite a bit. So far for electronics I have decided on...
1. Mtronics Genesis Truck esc
2. Feigeo 540C-9L
I have a KO high torque digital servo that I plan on using for steering. For the actual conversion I plan on using a Cold Fusion 1/8th motor mount. Should bolt up nicely. I am going to use Gorilla-Maxx battery straps to hold down the 12 cell NIMH. For now I am going to use my 6 cell GP3300 matched packs. In the future I will most likely upgrade to IB4200's or even Team Orion Platinum LiPo packs. I will definitally post tons of pics of my progress. I should be getting the buggy sometime this week. I still have not order any electronics. Any comments or suggestions will be very appreciated, because I am a 1/8th and BL newb. Thanks! :027:

This sounds like a good project, If i were you, you could try a XL motor, more power/runtime, Lipos would surely be good in this buggy, Please do post some pics, i will be watching this thread closely to answer any questions you have and i will try to answer them to the best of my ability.

Thanks for the response Sylvester! Now can you explain a bit more about the XL motor? Would would be the advantages/disadvantages? Thanks!

advantages: longer runtimes, cooler temperatures, less amp draw thus easier on the esc, and more torque as well as a wider selection of gearing. something you might find helpful with a buggy and no tranny...

disadvantages: none...

Disadvantages, extra weight and really not needed in a 1/8th buggy.

The 9L is quite hot for such a large wheeled truck?

What gearing does it use on the diffs/spur?

9L is doable on a buggy. I ran a 9L on 14 cells in my buggy once, it's fine on 12/51. Hotter than I like, though, but very fast.

If you run Lipos, I actually find the extra weight of the XL motors an advantage.

If you have money to blow, get a Lehner 1940 or 1950!

I think the 10L would be better suited over the 9L. The xl version are more torque with bigger can to get read of the heat. The lehner 19 series are great motors but has a higher price tag.

Another 1/8 buggy convert! Right now I am running the same motor/controller combo as you are, but with 4s Lipo. My buggy uses a custom slipper clutch that is built from Revo parts, and I chose a spring that's too weak (and it's rated for 20lbs.)! The slipper clutch hums through all of the acceleration. So, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the 540C 9L.

Hey guys. Thanks for the responces! Yea batfish I plan on racing at RCE. Go BL!..lol. So you guys would suggest a 8XL? or a 10L? I would want to run a cooler and more efficient motor. Thanks again.

if i was you i would go with the 8xl incase i ever wanted to go with a higher cell count. the 8xl would run cooler also and have more overall power and potential.

I really won't go with more cells due to the fact that the "truck" esc can only handle 12. Would a 7XL be better for 12 cells?

Yes it would, you'd get better runtimes, and you can gear up to get similar speed to the 9l
