OKHobby INFINITE 160A-8th-SL ESC
I finally finished my budget 8th scale buggy setup with this OKHObby INFINITE 160A-8th-SL ESC running the Red Leopard motor I posted about here.
I gave it its first real test today and it performed well. I ran it on 4s geared for 40mph. I was running on thicker grass than I have been (rain makes the grass grow!) and the motor went up to 140F - not bad for the conditions. The ESC only got to 120F - looks good. What I like about it: - very cheap - mounting tabs on case (why can't the MMM and RX8 have these?!?) - no noticeable difference when driving (after start-up) compared to MMM - programming card works fine - fan runs continuously What I don't like: - pretty hard start-up - meaning it won't go slow (even with timing and acceleration on low) so definitely not for crawling! - limited options with programming (I knew this going in - it's cheap) - I don't know if it has an LVC. The manual says something about a red light blinking when "battery voltage gets to warning point" - but I don't know if it will cut out or what? I have a Lipo LV alarm on order that I'll use with this and see if the ESC does anything. If this works out, I'm planning to water-proof it for an all-weather basher setup. And sorry - no pics - I forgot to take any when I took it apart and before I mounted it. |

So I'd say not this is not a good choice for racing. For cheap bashing only (which it does just fine). |
have you tried 5s? any idea why the 160a 5s controller is cheaper than their 120a 4s controller?
i just ordered the 160a so i'm wondering now. |

I also wondered why the 160a was cheaper than the 120a - but I have no idea. |
i just looked at the manual, and there it says "modellbau lindinger".
well, there (an austrian online-shop) you get the anaconda bl set, produced by "planet hobby" http://shop.lindinger.at/product_inf...ducts_id=80585 afaik the set performs well |

I paid $55 for the esc. They seem to have raised the price to $68, though - see link in first post.

:surprised:
wow, that's a good price |
btw, the esc programming cable+adapter looks exactly like the xcelorin ones...
calibration procedure is written in the same style & is the same procedure. the high voltage esc looks good to, goes up to 10 s, cool. good find!!! thanks. |
i must have gottem my order in just intime for the price spike up. i wonder if it was a typo or the old pre order price they forget to change.
|
the 10s esc looks exactly like the team orion esc. Seems that e have the oem-source.

lol, I like the 160A "continuous" rating is only good for 1 minute. Although, I suppose if you are running at 160A continuously, the batteries will only last that long. A burst rating of 760A sounds good too, until you notice it is only good for 300us (that's 0.0003 seconds, or 0.3ms). At least they do provide the time, but they should also add how long the "resting" period should be, or duty cycle.
|
If anyone comes across any firmware updates for these, let me know. I imagine with better software this esc could perform much better. Thanks.

This esc does have an LVC - I hit it today - power cut out until the battery recovered and then it drove again for a brief time before hitting it again.
