Hyper 10SC: Neu 1506 or 1409, opinions?
 

I've got a Hyper 10SC that I've been running at the local track. The current setup for powertrain has progressed as follows...

First setup; MMP- 4S 2650mah 40/50c- Ammo 2300KV 3650
Not enough power, motor ran HOT

Second setup; Phoenix ICE HV 80A- 8S 1300mah 40/80c- Neu 1515/2Y (1100kv)
Good power, lacked snappy punch of the higher KV motors, no heat, ran 25min...

Current setup; Phoenix ICE HV 80A- 8S 1300mah 40/80C- Neu 1515/2.5D (1680kv)
INSANE power, way overkill for the track, batteries get warm, ESC is cool, motor is cool, driveshafts are breaking.


What I would like to do is loose a bunch of motor weight (~4oz) and end up with power somewhere between the 2Y and 2.5D 1515 Neu's. The motors I'm looking at are the 1506/6D at 1700kv, and the 1409/2y at 1820kv.
I know the KV's are higher but I think when I gear down for similar speeds I should end up with good bottom end...

Opinions? Short and fat 1506 or the longer and narrower 1409?

Save yourself a bunch of money and get a CC/Neu 1410 1y and run it on 2s

Not gonna happen, 2S is for people who are limited to ROAR tracks or just have a fetish for burning electronics smell...

8S runs so much cooler and the run times are so much better.
Even with the 2.5D I'm getting 15 minutes of run time on 350grams of battery with crazy power.

An FYI, I went ahead and ordered my 1409/2Y.

Should have it tomorrow, and have some track time with it Sunday weather permitting.
I'll post up data logs ASAP just incase anyone else is considering going the same route.
I'll run it on 4S and 8S and get data for both.

Where did you order it from ,that it came that fast. I thought they were built when ordered.

I was wondering the same thing!? The one I ordered took 11 weeks, direct from Neu.

Noodle wire looks odd too - Seems to say creations and also doesn't look to be ext of motor windings... hmmm

Omg! Finally a neu motor with the cc touch! Hurray for stranded silicone jacketed FLEXIBLE wires! Hard drawn copper is the devil for rc cars! Can't wait to see where this might head.

I love what you are doing, i have been playing with higher voltage than originally thought in my preferred style truck (Stadium truck). My current setup is a associated T4 with a lehner basic XL 1200 with a quark 80 car esc with 4s Flight power 3700 20c lipo, Have not pushed to limit yet but figure close to 60 minutes of runtime. Watch the dogbones though, In my rc10GT conversion, i spread the diff outputs where the dogbone will slip

HV is sure a lot of fun and does have its benefits.

As I know all neu motors have flexible cable's right now. I have one 1409 and one 1518 black can Neu and both their wires are flexible. The cables are black but don't have any writings on it.

I wasn't going to name names since this is a Castle thread and you SHOULD be ordering from them, but I needed this ASAP for racing so I found a shop with them in stock (cough*Espritmodels*cough) and the shipping realy treated me well :-)

Yes, those are noodle wires coming out of the can, and I can read "castle" on one of them... It's technically a "ducted fan" motor I.e. 1409DF/2Y.

I found a blown out bearing in one of the rear hubs while putting in the hardened CVD shafts and I haven't got a spare so not sure how much data logging I'll get this weekend before the remaining bearing gives out. I'll post up what I do get though.

I love HV and I'm finding that smaller low KV motors and tiny Mah packs are the way to go. Ive also got a 1/10 4wd buggy that's running a Neu 1107/2Y heli motor on 4S 1000mah packs that is WAY fast and very low temp. The buggy ready to race is 2lbs 13oz battery and all :-) Screw ROAR :-)

Oh yah, forgot to point out the 5mm shaft :-)
