E-Maxx + 9L + 9918 = Whoa!
 

I just took my E-Maxx out for its first run with my new 9L, 9918, UBEC, heatsink/brace combo, and it really is quite something! :D

It was geared 17/66 (with UE 6-Spyder diffs), tight slipper, and a pair of matched 7-cell 1.19v GP3700 packs. It was also without the body on (not a smart decision). First thing I did was give it a handful of throttle - which resulted in the front end coming straight up, and the rear Ti skid being mm away from scraping along the concrete. Back down on all 4 tires and it took off like a scolded rat. I grabbed the brake, and the rear came straight up, the truck rolled over, and skidded along the concrete on the (stock) bodyposts for a few feet! The HV-Maxx I bought a few weeks never did that, and it was geared 14/66! I know a stock E-Maxx will do that without too much trouble, but this is a heavy extended truck. :p

I could see that I would need to be a bit more gentle with the throttle/brake. I had a few more minutes running, and the power the 9L motor puts out is stunning. My 12.5lb E-Maxx was being thrown around like a lightweight Stampede, wanting to lift 1 (or more) tires off the ground at any given opportunity! Then my 3PK radio started beeping and I looked down to see a 'low battery' warning, so the run was brought to a premature end. It's evening now (I'm in the UK), so I'll have to wait until tomorrow for another run.

All I can say is this: anyone considering getting a Feigao/BK setup - do it now, you won't regret it!

Will it matter that the motor wires haven't been shortened at all? I got all the soldering done by my LHS as I suck at it. I thought about having the controller the other way around, with the motor wires right next to the motor, but the wires are very thick and stiff, and dont bend too easily, so went for this configuration.

though the shorter the better, you'll be fine

It is unwise to mess with the wires coming form the motor, as they are part of the windings. If you want shorter wires, shorten the wires from the controller. Nice truck, by the way. I am glad you got a taste of the power!

I would flip over the speedo and shorten the wires on it, You can take out about 2.5" of wire i think.

How do you find 4 shocks hold up that fairly heavy e?

Doesnt look like its had 2 much abuse yet?
im intrested in putting 4 UE SS on my e which would be a similar weight but im unsure how they would hold up.

Those UE shocks are good to use in sets of 4 instead of 8.

I used them on my savage (16 cells, bigmaxximum, much aluminum on it) (6.5KG / 14.3 lbs) on the softest setup possible.. and i got curious and measured them on my scale, turned as stiff as possible.. it presses with 14.5 kg (31.9 lbs) with the black spring on the shock.. (one shock only)

I sure can hold an e-maxx!

I am going to use these too on my future maxx (and i bought a set of proline powerstrokes, so i can compare them..)

I will probably turn the controller around and shorten the controllers motor wires, now that I know it all works fine. I will hopefully get a full run today, with the body on, so I can check the temps. What are the 'normal' upper temp ranges for the motor/controller?

The 4 UE shocks seem to be coping well. They have 70 wt. oil in them, and are just about right. I don't intend to be jumping this truck (much ;)), so I don't need a particularly stiff suspension setup.

cabking: Mike sent the motor, heatsink and UBEC from the US, and the package didn't get any charges placed on it by customs. The controller came direct from BK in Germany, and again had no charges.

About 145 degrees is a good temp.. Got an IR tempgun?

I've got a mini IR temp gun, so I'll try that.

I also found my old home-made wheelie bar that I built for my stock E-Maxx a couple of years ago. It adds 7 oz. of weight though, right at the back of the truck, so it might make it even more prone the wheelies... :L:

I am also thinking of a setup like this, do u guys think i should spend the rest of my money upgrading my maxx until its nearly bulletproof? OR sell my e-maxx and get REVO and have money left over? i Think i might go with choice 1?

Depends if you are looking for something new..

If you want to drive, i would go for option 1, if you like to work on aluminum and can wait a month or what, go for option 2..
