a little heating issue

hey guys i got my revo off some guy on traxxas and it came perfedctly tuned cept one problem... after about 5 minutes it gets to around 225... i dont really wanna try and tune it so is there anything i can do to help this?

bigger heat sink? diff tires? gearing? or what dont know too much about gas heating!!

o ya and its an os18 motor! lol

thanks!

crazyjr 01.27.2007 03:57 AM

225 is actually a little cold, it needs to be around 240 to 250*, but don't go by temp, tune to sound and performance and use temp for reference. That was a hard lesson for me to learn, trust my gut over a temp gun

Edit: sorry didn't read about the OS .18, not sure of the range for them, but it still applies, tune for performance

I agree - the temps are a little low - adjust the high side needle in a touch and retemp - ( the high side adjustment needle is usually close to the carb inlet ) but find the diagram of the motor online - and check - adjust it only 1 hour at a time ( i mean if the screwdriver slot you adjust on the needle is facing up and down - that would be 12:00 - turn it clockwise 1 hour ( so its pointing at what would be 1:00 on a clock ) and retest it - only adjust after properly warming it up as well..

o sweet lol... well i dont think id really need to retune it. i just have to run it a little longer! like i said i only run it for like an 1/8 of the tank before it reaches 225! i thouight that was a bad thing! i thought it was like electric motors to where you should be able to touch it for 3 seconds or something!! HAHA!! how shouild the temps be at the end of the run?

HotnCold 01.27.2007 04:40 PM

250 ish - little more little less - is fine - 300 something is pushing it -

t-maxxracer32 01.27.2007 05:09 PM

kk sweet! im going racing today so ill see how it does!

Nitro's are different, to some extent the hotter the better

LOL, I wouldn't advise that! If you can touch a 250+ degree Nitro motor for 3 seconds, you must have some type of Kevlar skin! :005:

Once temps get in the ideal range - between 250-270 - it should basically stay there.

Just make sure you see a nice blue cloud of exhaust and temps at the 250-270 mark and you'll be golden. Although, I have no idea why you'd want to run Nitro when there's brushless stuff to run. :032: :027:

T-maxxracer,

Remember that Nitro's need tobe retuned based on weather conditions. Higher or lower humidity, higher or lower air temps, and higher or lower altitiude will all necessitate a retuning. A bit of a PITA in my opinion. I have a REVO3.3 and love it.....but the constant tuning part bugs me.

t-maxxracer32 01.27.2007 10:36 PM

my esc is being fixed right now... member how i said the heat sink came off.. well there putting it on.. im out for liek 3 weeks. gotta have the revo as backup!

Procharged5.0 01.27.2007 10:42 PM

That's funny.....

I've lived for my Supermaxx/E-maxx. In fact I sold off my T-Maxx, Stock E-Maxx, TC-3, and Losi XXT.

I put the Revo3.3 on my birthday wishlist this year and my wife actually bought it for me! I was shocked.....

It's a ton of fun and seriously fast (to me anyway). I hit 50+ two weeks ago running it in the 30 degree Chicago weather and with aggressive tuneup.
The neighbors were a bit freaked out at the speed. It was an animal. Lol!

Once the Supermaxx is reassembled the REVO will be used as "backup" or maybe converted to brushless....who knows!???

t-maxxracer32 01.27.2007 10:50 PM

i actually like the revo for diff reasons. for 1 its 4wd... i can keep it on the track lol... my 2wd rusty just spins everywhere!! i would convert the revo to brushless but the money is a KILLER HOLY CRAP!!! 200 for a motor 300 for an esc 150 per battery!! GODDAM SCREW IT!!!

ive already put 800 into the rusty!! and only 375 into the revo!! =D (i bought it for 375!!)

i like both for diff reasons. revo and bl ruisty is the perfet setup to me.

plus i like the way the gas smells lol

squeeforever 01.28.2007 12:46 AM

You could save a hell of alot of money on a BL setup...More like 90 for a motor, 130 for an esc, 200 or less for 2 batteries...

t-maxxracer32 01.28.2007 10:45 AM

o... well... lol idk i like the way my revo is now! i like having a gas and electric truck.
