Slowly rowlin(maxx build)

Okay I am new to this forum and have been browsing through existing threads searching for answers to my questions but I think I'll make my own thread so they can all be answered in one place. I will be building on my almost stock E-maxx but have no money so the parts will be coming in slow; hence the name, "slowly rowlin".
Right now the only things I have done to it are- A spool in the rear with revo shafts to handle the beating it takes. uuuhm and thats it lol. So the revo shafts didn't do diddly. I took it out for a run then lost all power to one of the rear wheels. I like the added width with the revo axles and carriers so I will be getting revo cvds for the front and rear. Here is a sorta list for the parts I intend to have on the truck.
-RPM Revo axle carriers all around.
-RPM Emaxx A arms all around.
-MIP Revo cvds.
-Feigao 540 9xl B/l motor.
-Quarks 125b B/l esc.
-maxamps 3s lipo packs x2.
-single speed transmission.
blah blah blah.
The questions I have are with the FLM hybrid bulks, what diffs do you use? Also anyone with them, how do you like em? I will probably upgrade the chassis close to last because its not all that important yet. The main thing I want to do now is get the drive train ready and shave some weight but everyone is out of the single speed. I will most likely run a tekno wingmount and 1:8 wing along with a crowd pleazer muscle body along with either wabash or dish 40 series. I would like to keep this truck as light as possible. one of the main things I am having a problem with is the spool vs. diff issue lol. also the bulks.Well I wish I could take pics but my cam died. I might get some from me mums phone. Well more later.

Id use HB pro diffs.

Looks like you will have a pretty nice setup!

neweuser 03.08.2007 06:50 PM

I would use velo rims, they are light weight. And +1 to the HB pro diffs. You could also get UE 8 spyders, they would fit the hybrids too.

cembom 03.08.2007 08:37 PM

What exactly does UE stand for? I hear it alot but still dont know what it is. Also HB lol. I don't know what either of them are or I just can't think of it. Do you have a link? I wish that I could get a single speed. I think that I will be getting my rpm a-arms, carriers and my revo axles for all fours. I need to get a diff because that spool just trashes em'. So do you guys think that the feigao 540c 9xl, quarks 125b, and 6s lipos will work and be a good setup?

glassdoctor 03.08.2007 08:42 PM

Unlimited Engineering

HotBodies (not the girls at the beach lol...)

Sylvester 03.08.2007 08:43 PM

UE ; Unlimited Engineering. HB ; Hot Bodies. Here is the HB diff.. http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...d=HPI_PRO_DIFF ..

Nice setup, but first off, id get the normal Wanderer motor with mike's heatsink, second, the quark has 6s problems, it is rated for 6s but doesnt like it. I would run a heatsink on the quark and run 5s.. Should be an awesome setup!

squeeforever 03.08.2007 10:13 PM

I would go with the HB buggy diffs. Not the Pro versions. The Pro's have to low of a gear ratio...

cembom 03.08.2007 10:56 PM

so on the Emaxx pages I believ you see the pro diff first and then another. would the secong be the 1:8? yah I figured out the hot bodies right after I posted lol. hmm but UE I cant recal any of there parts. Do the stock 3.3 axles stand up to brushless? I have them on the rear with my spool and it eats them like Mike tyson eats babies. Hmm well about the brushless, all I see in the xl wanderer is the 12 xl. I still wanna run the 9 xl though. also you know brian G's data calculator thingamajig? With 8s, wanderer 12xl and a 1:8 scale diff it says 54 and some tops but with an emaxx diff it shoots up to 63. does anyone know of another rc calculator thingamabob? Would the wanderer 12xl still pop wheelies with 24t pinion and 51t spur, I think it should cuz its brushless ; ) Man I need a new setup then. help me out with the brushless please. I will be making this maxx into a racer. It will be as light as possible and as cheap also.

Oh yeah, I would like to use the 9xl still did I mention that? Plus I just read something I never heard before; "The Quark Monster Pro is a 125A speed control that can handle from five to 18 NiMH cells and two to six Li-Po. The unit’s built-in BEC (battery eliminator circuitry) has to be disabled when using more than 10 NiMH cells or more than four cells if using Li-Po." Depending on the bec could it be able to run 6s?

Nope. It pretty much won't run 6S no matter what. Some don't have a problem running it, but alot of others do...

Crapola is it the heat? Well I guess I will just have to work something out. What about an xl7 with 5s? The only thing I am worried about is the torqe, that setup should still flip over with a 51spur and a24 pinion. will it

Patrick 03.10.2007 03:44 AM

7XL, 5S, 51/24. I think that would be pushing it a bit much, especially if your going to race it.
I don't know if your talking about 51/24 with E-maxx diffs or 1/8th diffs.
51/24 with e-maxx diffs would be like 51/28 with a 1/8 diff.
51/24 with 1/8th diffs would be inbetween 51/22 and 51/21 with e-maxx diffs.
Why do you need a 24 pinion?

If you want to use 5s for racing I would get an 8XL or 9XL. 7XL would be fun for some speed runs, but could get everything a bit hot after more than a few minutes especially with lots of hard accelerating and braking like in a race.
For 4s a 7XL would be good though. It would still have enough torque for most races, definitely more than the titans.

cembom 03.10.2007 02:12 PM

Oops sorry, I only said 24t, I had no intention of using it lol. I have no clue what the motor will preform like so I think I will get a couple pinions to try to get a happy medium. Also I think that I will be using the 9xl so that I have a few more battery options. Is that your dog? I like em because the first dog I can remember having was a Bouvier he was blonde and he made me love big dogs and woolly sheep dogs. lol

cembom 03.10.2007 05:22 PM

Ok guys so I think I will be going with the 8xl. One thing that I wanted to double check. I will probably use both Lipos and nimh. Will switching between the two bother the esc or motor? what about the ubec? thanx.

BrianG 03.10.2007 05:35 PM

Switching between the two won't bother anything. The motor doesn't care as long as the RPMs stay in the desired range, and the UBEC doesn't case as long as the input voltage isn't higher than it is rated for.

However, your LVC setting in the ESC may kick in if you use NiMH and the voltage drops below the set voltage.
