supermaxx EXT pro users?
 

hey guys - i just picked up a slightly used EXT pro kit. as usual, i was in a rush and didn't pay attention to the details... it's not the 'full kit'. it didn't come with towers, but that's ok - i'm running knuckleheads. but, i noticed it also doesn't come with the turnbuckles... grrrrr.... will the 2.5 length lunsford ti buckles i have now work? or are the EXT buckles a bit longer due to the increase in width? i suspect they are longer, as UE's site shows regular buckles as well as EXT buckles, which would lead me to assume there is a difference. i won't have the set for a week or so, maybe less, and i just wanted to check with you guys first.

(oh, and UE has the rear buckle set in stock, but not the front. i hope i don't need them and can use what i have! the patience of a saint is needed when something is out of stock at UE. maybe i'll email mike and see if he has any EXT buckles.)

edit: i'm not sure why the image isn't showing up, but did i just buy EXT Pro or WideMaxx Pro?

EXT pro, since the upper side of the knuckle is longer, and the upper a-arm is shorter.

The standard maxx 2.5 wide maxx tb's should fit. I am using the racer-X (which is about the same on the front) and that uses the standard tb's in front as the 2.5 wide maxx.

Check to see if it has got 16 or 15mm od bearings.

id needs to be 6 to be used with stock sized cvd's.

15 was used on the earlier version, and 16 od is used on the newer editions.

i doubt these are going to come with any instructions on setup - are the arms marked front or rear? i guess i can try to see which ones are front/back from the pics on UE's site. i've only run stock arms up until now, so it'll be a challenge to get them set up right. i like a challenge, as long as it all fits the right way, lol.

ok. i 'test fitted' one set of arms/knuckles last night, and all i can say is... wow. the suspension movement is much more fluid, and the knuckles take so little effort to move them back and forth. this is an enormous improvement from the stock arms and knuckles. the arms fit like a glove where they attach to the bulks, with virtually no room for front to back movement. it all works very well with the racerX shock towers, too. this is some top notch stuff!!!

i still have to tear the truck down to install the FLM chassis with the EXT pro suspension, which i'll probably get to this weekend. but i can't wait to experience how much better the truck is going to handle!

i don't think i'd pay the $463 that these things retail for new, but i got a good deal - and it's a huuuuge improvement over what i had.

there are only a couple problems i have to figure out. the first is the MIP cvd's - the dogbone end that sits in the diff cup is dangerously close to the end (this suspension kit extends the width of the truck, thereby pulling the dogbone end away from the diff). it still seats in the cup at full droop, but not by much. UE EXT cvd's will fix that, but it's another $120 + for a full set.

the other thing i've noticed is the knuckles seem to rub on the rim somewhere when i tighten the hex nuts down all the way. if i back off on the nut, they seem to clear. maybe another MIP problem that would be solved by UE cvd's??

right. There neews to be a washer inbetween the bearings in theknuckles, this will stop the rubbing.

As for the cvd's thats correct you will need the UE ext cvd's steel ones r plenty strong enuff. titanium or ott but u never no!
Many brushless users use titanium on rear and steel on front.

Visit the UE website for installation & set-up instructions plu they have set-up sheets for you to mark how you set-up the truck for specific races, etc.

ahhhh, thanks! i knew the rubbing must be something i didn't do right. so the washer needs to go in between the 2 bearings, or just on the outside of the outer bearing (in between the outer bearing and the hex)?

i guess i'll have to get an order in for the UE ext cvd's. i also plan to get a UE titanium dogbone to replace the (too short) dogbone that comes with the FLM chassis. anyone know if this size is 100.5mm, or 105mm?
