Brushless help (savage)

I just bought a savage and will be converting it to electric. I think im getting a 9l for it. ill be running 12-14 cells only. Now, should i get the 1/8" or the 5mm shaft. Also what gearing should i start with. any ideas?

Re~Mix 06.05.2005 04:45 PM

5mm shaft definitely. It'll help take the abuse of a big monster truck like that.

I would reccomend the 5mm shaft's, they are much much stronger than the 1/8" ones. Finding pinions can be harder, but rc-monster stocks many 5mm bore pinions.

As for gearing, I wouldn't know on for a savage. In my bl maxx I run a final drive ratio in 2nd gear of about 1:20....hope this helps

Hi admiralDog!

Welcome to the forum, hope you'll find the info you need here and if you don't find it feel free to ask!

Go for the 5mm!! no doubt. You need MOD1 pinions.

here is the sheet for selecting the right gears. There are 47, 49 and 52 spurs available from HPI.

If you are planning on running 14 cells, i would suggest using a 12 tooth pinion (Mike has got these normally in stock) it will go about 35 mph. you are going to use the stock two speed transmission with the mechanical brake?

AdmiralDog 06.05.2005 05:25 PM

yeah i will prolly use the stock transmission with the mechanical brake. I might get the 3 speed if i feel like i need more speed. ill be useing 12 cells first until i buy some 7 cell packs. so should i use a 14 or 15 tooth then?

What spur are you using?

AdmiralDog 06.05.2005 05:27 PM

Stock one. Or should i buy a different one

Serum 06.05.2005 05:30 PM

what spur are you using?

stock ss has got a 49 tooth and the stock .25 or .25 a 52

and the K4.6 uses a 47 tooth...

AdmiralDog 06.05.2005 05:39 PM

oh sorry.

I have a stock 21 savage.

i believe is a 52 spur gear

on a 47 spur use a 12T/13T pinion. or use the 52 spur and a 13T/14T pinion.

Planning on buying a 9918 controller too?

AdmiralDog 06.05.2005 05:54 PM

already got one. Im taking it from my BL rusty.

Thanks for the help.

Serum 06.05.2005 06:01 PM

It probably isn't a mod1 pinion?

AdmiralDog 06.05.2005 06:06 PM

no, i bought a 6s 1/8" for my rusty and a 9918. Im selling the 6s and my rusty and then im buying a 9l for my savage.

Serum 06.05.2005 06:13 PM

My bad, i thought you where going to take the 13t pinion from the rusty... ;)

Did you allready figured out how to make the motorplate?

AdmiralDog 06.05.2005 07:00 PM

yeah, i got a pretty good idea. What did you use?
