Enerland joins A123Systems?
I just desabled the popup blocker and found out that A123Systems has acquired 100% of Enerland.
I hope this doesnt mean all the normal enerland lipos will change for the darn A123 stuff
hmm, interesting. A123 is trying for a bigger marketshare. Logistic wise should be smoother now. To think when I first bought A123 cells, their wasn't an aftermarket A123 ready charger available, let alone known to the RC market. Look at them now, GM investing in them and them absorbing another company.
This is huge.
I wonder what it will mean for enerland. Let's hope they still keep their 3.5V+ on 100A load.. |
I also hope A123 cells will come down in price.
It should be interesting for sure. Not reaaly sure of the a123 strategy here. Enerland is the leader right now, but the rest of the world is catching up fast. They are gonna need to start dropping prices to compete. There are packs that cost a fraction of Enerland that perform reasonably well now and others that perform just as well and are cheaper than enerland. They can't live on the name forever.

I'd like to see the enerland cells, with the nanotech of the a123's. 10c charges with 60c continous discharge and no fires :yipi::wink:
I just wish A123 cells were flat like lipos so they could be stacked easily and save space...

Yeah, me too. New form factor and use the same type of sheathing as lipos (since the chemistry is what makes it safe) for less weight would make them perfect! Oh, and increase the capacity to something like 5Ah...
Ahhh, to dream... |

Maybe that's the reason to aquire enerland, to explore other options. I see flat li-ons and high powered lipos coming, full size E-cars might be a real possibility with this joining as well
As for the form factor, if packs were made in the volume of a regular 6 cell stick pack they could at least fit 3000mah in I know. Get rid of that metal jacket, get rid of the dead space between round cells, and make them usable!
I think that A123 is coming out with a pack that is the same size as a 6 cell NiMh. Look at page 92 of the January 2008 issue of RCCA and it shows a pack that looks flat and has 2200mAH.

Lutach, do you know what member tested them? I'd consider getting these if the price is good and they have enough capacity. |

Batfish said he used them. |
I think that flat pack is just four of the 1100 a123, 2s2p.
1100mah a123? I want some to use as in 2s config for a nitro Rx pack. that sounds Ideal. I'd just use the 2300mah a123 in 2s but they just dont fit most places.
Id love to see them. |
There is alot of info on the 1100 A123 on RCU. It charges at 5A max I believe.
