MM arming on 5s?

I know this has been talked about but I'm not clear on whether I can get a new MM to arm on 5s or not. Mine makes the right noises and the led's respond to the tx but no motor. I've re-programmed from the tx and updated the firmware. If I can't get past this, I'll just have to gear up a little and stick with 4s.

From what I've heard, if you set the cutoff to "no cutoff" it will work properly.

cutoff

I tried that, I tried the same on my other MM, same thing. They work perfectly on 4s but on 5s, no go.

I have an older Mamba that I'm running 5s on. I had a similar issue. I adjusted the new 'arm time' to the lowest possible, 1 second I believe, and I think it helped.

Uh-oh, did this get changed in the new firmware? I have an older MM that runs 5S well. I gen don't use it for that, but its nice to have. I updated the firmware, so I wonder what it will do now...

I have one older MM that is slightly sensitive on the overvolt on 5s. It works perfectly if I change my charger setting to charge to 4.15v per cell (20.75v for the pack) rather than 4.2v per cell. If I charge the pack all the way to 21V it doesnt want to start. I need to drain 100mah off the top of the pack and then it works perfectly. The other MMs I have arent bothered by 5s and work perfectly. These are all the older style though.

Try seeing if a not quite completely peaked 5s pack will let tthe MM start up.

I've had no issues on mine after the upgrade. At least no issues that werent there before the upgrade.

I will check again MM...

But I have a solution which will solve all problems including LiPo support (cutoff) for 5S and 6S.
I won't recomend running above 6S or 26V.
Picture located here.

Do you have the specs on that cap that you soldered on!

DON't TRY this setup!!!

DON't TRY this setup!!!

I encounted serious problems with this setup, not quite sure why. But I do need to investigate, it cogs like crazy at mid to high RPM...

Sorry, update will follow.

Thanks keep us informed:tongue:

Call me stupid, but if you ignore the extra $$, isnt it easier to just disable the built-in lipo protection and use a seperate lipo monitoring device (LVC)?

Yes, you are correct.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I am just tiring to get a little bit more from well designed MM ESC...

-but looks like this one requires to get a closer look at brains pcb, I missed something. Once you get over lower battery voltage, with PWM, ESC fails to work.
I can see how that can happen, but not quite sure what it’s for...

5s?

I'm still not clear on this one. Can I go back to the older software and run 5s? I see lots of people are running 5s and my setup would like 5s but the MM won't arm.

jhautz 02.21.2008 04:40 PM

The older MM units will arm on 5s. The newer ones will not. The version of sotware doesnt matter from what I understand. Its in the controller itself.

If you have a new one I believe that you may be able to make it arm on 5s by turing off the LVC. I dont know this to be true becasue I dont have a newer MM to test it with, but this is what I have heard on the board here. If you try it and it doesnt work then you will likely need to get a ESC that was designed to work with 5s if thats what you need. Or possibly find a used older style MM.

We have a new one here on my buddies MGT and it arms and runs with a 5S lipo. He is though using an external BEC.

Does it works at 4S with new software?

ilpufxit 02.25.2008 09:56 AM

4s

[I've been running it on 4s for a while now. Works perfectly in my really heavy Muggy. If I could up the voltage a bit, it would be even better I'm sure.

Yes....it did on my buddies trucks. They all run the new MM's.

Can you send it to me for testing?
If, yes, than do that at the end of March.
In worse case I will exchange with one of mines, which works at 5S.
