FLM e-maxx chassis with a carbon addition. :)

Here is the result of a plan i had for quite some time now. Had the drawings for a longer time, but never had a change to have them machined.

Today i jumped the opportunity and took my carbon sheet trough a CNC mill!

In the attached PDF is the plan of this 'conversion'

What i did was cut off the battery 'ears' of the flm chassis with a handsaw, used a wood router and a 45 degree bit to get the chamfered edges. The holes in the braces of the chassis changed from M3 to M4. the end of the lower plate is resting on the rear skid.

my intention was to make a lower CG that was compatible/adjustable with the different sizes of lipo packs.

I like the low CG of the gmaxx chassis, and the bashing thing about the FLM..

Anyway, here are some pics..

Creative.

Hey Serum now that looks like some pretty creative stuff:lol:. With your CG that low you should be able to do a high speed setup and have better handling capabilities. So what are your plans for that thing now that you have something a little bit new?

Serum 02.09.2008 05:55 PM

Planning on putting an actual motor in it and run it on 5S2P..

think I'll put a 1950-8 or a 9 or 10XL in it. she will use the traditional 2 speed transmission.

suicideneil 02.09.2008 07:36 PM

Awesome work, I like that alot. Looks alot like the one Mike made for someone a while back that had the center diff fitted also, only your CF version is somewhat sexier I reckon. Get some more pictures once its finished, it looks proper-Bo dude!

jhautz 02.09.2008 07:52 PM

Very cool Serum. I like it.

What holds the little lipo stops in place?

tashpop 02.09.2008 09:19 PM

man, i've been thinking about doing the same thing with mine. you beat me to it. i'll be sure not to copy your design when i get around to it.

Serum 02.10.2008 11:09 AM

4 of the 8 stops are held in place with 2k glue, and the other two (length) can be hold in place by a lexan 1.5 mm thick sheet, that presses the plates in, and lays under the battery to press them tight in place.

it would be an option to make the braces from aluminum and use button head screws to hold them in place.

It would be fair cheap to produce if you have them laser cut.

I can't believe I didn't post something on this master piece. WOW.

JERRY2KONE 05.21.2008 02:53 PM

Understand

Thats ok Lutach we understand since there was nothing in the title saying 'HIGH VOTAGE PROJECT".:yipi::rofl::rofl:Tee hee hee. Actually what happened with the project Serum:neutral:? You haven't posted up any updates in quite a while:whistle:. Is it up and running yet? :eyes:

I'm with you there. I missed this one completely. Very nice work Serum! That is one of if not the nicest custom maxx I have seen.

That CF sheet is dual layer 4mm?

Serum 05.21.2008 04:03 PM

I made some more parts for it, (finally got a lathe) I simple need to put a motor in it and get it rolling, but there are quite a few other projects waiting for me..

Thanks for the kind words Guys,

lutach 05.21.2008 06:36 PM

This is truly unique and it does say HV all over it. Look at the 5S lipos on one side, so you know what that means. Ok, so now I know where you were coming from when you said Mr. C's kit aren't all that.

Edit: I've been in this hobby for a while now and I'm still learning and finding new R/Cs out there that are just awesome.

This beauty has HV written all over it. Wow, 10S lipos would make it really happy. Serum can run it for Hours.

nice upgrade .

to bad the fiber only goes to 18"

q8-maxx 04.29.2009 10:03 AM

is this Carbon Fiber stronger than FLM ?

nice look :)

Serum 04.29.2009 10:05 AM

It's got a low CG, it won't be weaker than the FLM chassis, it's rather thick carbon. The handling of the car will be better because of the lower CG.

All to rare Serum sighting. How ya doin man!!!

Serum 04.29.2009 10:20 AM

Look who changed his avatar!

Heya jHautz!

All is fine. I was going through my photo's last week (got a new iMac, and i was importing the photo's) when i saw a picture of you guys on the driverstand at Barnstormers.

We are planning on going to the US this year once again.

RC is quite calm at the moment. I'm focussing (and loosing focus more than once) on other things right now. RC still has a warm place in my heart. I just mis the good old conversion threads, seems like this work is getting more rare by the day.. A few years back we had nitro revo's and savages converted to electric. Nowadays you can buy them allmost from any brand! brushless is taking the lead. that's for sure.

nitrostarter 04.29.2009 11:34 AM

Definitely brushless is taking the lead! I remember when brushless was just a pipedream for most because of the rediculous price for a schultz or bk warrior and a B50 8S. Its sure come a long way since then. Multiple companies producing more and more offerings as well as factories electric buggies and truggies(who woulda thought) and factory BL vehicles!
I know Serum remembers the originating BL days, I surely won't forget HiAmplidude, outkast187, and Promoad venturing out and pioneering the way for BL into R/C Cars. Its come a long way since 8S motors and Promod jamming 32 cells per side of a RaceBomb chassis for speed runs, and Outkast's twin 7xl BEAST!

Ahhh those were the days!

lutach 04.29.2009 03:26 PM

Brushless Rules.....Brasil rules too (Thought I would thorw that in there as well ).

Kcaz25 11.10.2009 12:04 PM

Sad day that you never got this truck going, sadder still that you are never present anymore! We miss you! LOL You need an ambitious project to regain interest. Do an outrunner or something and run it off LiMn, 1/4th scale, with tracks, with carbon fiber parts.

coolhandcountry 11.20.2009 02:36 PM

Any more updates Buddy Serum?

RC toy 08.30.2010 08:37 AM

What's the thickness of CF plates?

Vic 08.31.2010 08:51 AM

I really like your work. Combines the look of the FLM Chassie and CG of the Gorilla Max. Looks great!!!

Would you give us the cnc file to copy your work?

Thanks
