What Lipo Charger You Use?
What Lipo Charger &/or Balancer do you use?
|
I use the TME Xtrema usually with my Commonsenserc balancer. Good combo IMO. I set the CC/CV threshold to 4.15v to add a little extra cycle life (hopefully) to my lipos and it doesn't reduce runtime by any noticeable amount.
If that charger is busy, I use my old Hyperion EOS7i and LBA10 setup... |
I use a hyperion 610i and 1210i with lba10 balancer.
|
i use a hyperion 1210i and a Blinky
|
Hyperion 0610i/lba6 balancer, I will be going to flightpower packs for my E Revo and I have the flightpower V balancer for that
|
Well, I use a Mrc 989, Duratrax ICE, or one of 3 hyperion 5i chargers. I have a variety of equinox, lba6 and flightpower V balancers that I use with each chargers. All work well, and would not hesitate to recommend any of them.
|
I use a MRC Superbrain 989 with a Hyperion LBA10 balancer.
|
I use the FMA direct Cellpro 10s charger. This is an excellent charger!

I use the Hyperion eos1210i and a lba10 balancer.
|
FMA direct Cellpro 4s
and a duratrax ice |
Hyperion 0610i and Ice. I balance with the built in balancer in the 0610i.
|
Bantam BC6 with built-in balancer, very nice charger for upto 6s lipos or 14 Nimh cells.
|
I use the MRC "super brain" 977 pro (which by the way WILL NOT charge lipo batteries without destroying them). Few hundred dollars go poof in a matter of months. It's ok for nimh though.
|
Technically, you could charge lipos with a NiMH charger, providing the charger lets you adjust the current on-the-fly. When the battery voltage gets close to 4.2v/cell, just reduce the current in small increments to keep the voltage at that point. Once the current reaches about 1/10th of what you started with, terminate the charge. This is pretty much what all lipo chargers do (which is why I call it "adaptive constant current" instead of a true constant voltage charge). Of course, you'd have to sit there and watch the voltage like a hawk, not to mention the potential for "problems" if you forget...

Wow, just checked that out and it looks like a really nice charger! 10s, 10A, 300w, built-in balancer, and the really neat feature that throttles down the charge rate according to your power supply current capability (nice!). Is there some type of online manual or something I can peruse? I'd like to have multi-pack memory settings and the ability to set CC/CV threshold. And I'd like to know how the balancer plug setup works... |
I know it's different on the 10s, but the 4s charged directly through the balance plug, and charged each cell by itself completely independent. I've seen as much as a 3c charge rate on my 4s, but it never lets the pack get even warm. Nifty.
Here is the manual on the 10s. It's on my shopping list just as soon as budget allows. http://www.fmadirect.com/support_docs/item_1258.pdf J> |
Yeah, I don't particularly like charging high currents through the balance taps as they aren't designed for that kind of current flow, but from I gather, the FMA 10s charger works like most of today's chargers: main charge current goes through the main leads and the balance connector is used for balancing and cell monitoring...

thats how the Flightpower V balancer works |

I am still waiting for the PC interface cable so that I can view all the information while charging and even change settings on the fly from the computer. I have only had this thing for one day and so far I am really pleased with my purchase! For a DC power supply I am just using a normal PC power supply that I had from an old computer and then installed banana jacks. It can output up to 25 amps so it has no problem supplying enough amps for charging. |
MRC 989 chager and TP-205V balancer.
