OutRunner Raze

1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys i am finally making progress on my Bl Converted Duratrax raze! I recently made the decision to go Direct Drive with a Outrunner. Up untill now i had a plain old duratrax raze with a Wanderer 9xl, no esc, no batts, no charger, NO HOPE I started this project back in May of 2007 and could not progress cuz i was broke! When i finaly went through and sold the 9xl the greatest thing happened 83gt made a cash offer on the motor. I was really happy to get an offer but then he told me he would trade a MM!!!!!! IT WAS AMAZING! cuz i had been looking for one since i started the project!

The deal went through without a hitch and i got a Older style Yellow label Mamba max! Then my with my birthday and easter money i just placed the order on united hobbies for my motor, battery and charger!
I got:
Turnigy 50-55b 600kv outrunner
Zippy 4000mah 25-35c 5s lipo
A Imax B5 Lipo Charger

I also just got done Painting my hyper7 body too, its not bad for the first body.

Looks like a great build. Im really excited to see the sped runs and overall power!

trev3813 03.30.2008 08:34 PM

Looking really good ben!

Pedebeater 03.30.2008 09:31 PM

Looks great. I have that exact motor and believe me, you will love it.

Good luck with the build.

P.S are you getting your mount from Mike?

brushlessboy16 03.30.2008 09:44 PM

i dunno what im doing for a mount, can i get the mounting hole dimensions?

Pedebeater 03.30.2008 09:52 PM

You would have to measure everything out and make a sketch or draft, then you would send that in to Mike along with a fee and he will make exactly what you ask for. Out of aluminum.

brushlessboy16 03.30.2008 10:31 PM

what PB?

jnev 03.31.2008 12:00 AM

I wonder what is NOT in it. Like any trace of nutrients?

I could really go for some of that stuff we used to eat back in the day! Your know, that stuff!

Pedebeater 03.31.2008 04:39 PM

I was talking about a guy me Takedown and Brushlessboy know, his name is Mike. He makes custom aluminum parts.

Now you guys got me wanting pb and j, thanks. lol

brushlessboy16 03.31.2008 05:03 PM

Be One Of Us!

Takedown 03.31.2008 09:16 PM

Hmmm... I third that.

brushlessboy16 04.01.2008 10:39 PM

Update Guys: I just had a freind order 50 330uF 25v capacitors, i plan to run them with the Mamba Max to lower the temps a little bit.

How many should i run? the more the merrier?

aqwut 04.01.2008 11:20 PM

Put them all on there...

brushlessboy16 04.02.2008 06:26 AM

how many though?

Takedown 04.03.2008 10:07 PM

I would run 6-8 on a braket kinda like sike has on his outrunner e-revo.

brushlessboy16 04.04.2008 09:02 AM

Hey Guys, Has anyone used the TeknoRc Battery tray?
http://www.teknorc.com/product_info....roducts_id=940.
It has the same exact dimensions as the Pack I'm getting and is cheap too, i might have to drill a couple holes in the chassis but it would look a heck of a lot better then what i was thinking :D

brushlessboy16 04.04.2008 09:16 AM

According to all my measurements and calculations, the raze should weigh in somewhere around 9.5slbs, 10 lbs max.. And at full throttle, it will be making 3.7hp or 2590watts!!!!
that makes the power to weight ratio about .375 to 1!!!
Minding that the Buggati V16 Veyron has .230hp per pound... yay :D

GO OUTRUNNERS!

brushlessboy16 04.08.2008 09:03 AM

Hey guys just a little update, my Order from United hobbies is still backorderd!!!! AHHH NOO

I have been wondering how you guys think i should mount the motor, right now my idea is to Machine a big hunk of .3'' thick delrin into a mount that would use the same holes as the center diff did.. Do you think it will be strong enuff?

brushlessboy16 04.10.2008 07:01 PM

Does anyone know if a Motor mount made of 1/2inch Thick Delrin will be enuff for the motor?

Hey Guys just a little update, my motor and Battery just came into stock and should be here shortly,It looks like the machined mount idea is a failure... might use some steel angle to make a mount, then either some round stock or flat plate for bracing... its really simple but should get the job done

Arct1k 04.21.2008 09:45 AM

Why not use one of these

http://offshoreelectrics.com/proddet...od=ose-drmount

brushlessboy16 04.21.2008 09:51 AM

Ehh a coupla reasons, i would like to make it myself for one, im not one to build things out of a box.... then b/c its not made for an outrunner motor, and because i need something that will keep the mount from flexing.

Arct1k 04.21.2008 09:59 AM

Does the motor have screw holes at both ends? You could fab two of them together to make like a diff mount...

brushlessboy16 04.21.2008 10:00 AM

no, only at one end, the other side of the endbell spins with the shaft.

rcmonkey 04.21.2008 10:10 AM

What pinions are you planning on using with the 8mm shaft?

brushlessboy16 04.21.2008 10:14 AM

It is an outrunner motor running direct drive, im running diff cups on the motor shaft and running dogbones directly to the front and rear diff

rcmonkey 04.21.2008 10:22 AM

Thanks I have got it now, you are going to mount the rear drive cup on the bit that has the bullet shaped thing on it?

brushlessboy16 04.21.2008 10:24 AM

close, im not going to use the bullet thing, From what i hear you can slide the motor shaft so that it sticks out both ends of the motor-so i can put drive cups on both ends

rcmonkey 04.21.2008 10:27 AM

Sweet, I may put one of these in my XB8, I will watch this thread closely.

Cheers

rcmonkey 04.21.2008 02:31 PM

Hmmmm, are you sure the motor will fit? I just took the CD out of my buggy and the distance between the ends of the CVDs is 40mm, going by the specs on the website the motor is 55mm long. Do you plan to cut the shaft?

What drive cups are you using? I found these which look goodhttp://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...RCM8mmdrivecup

brushlessboy16 04.21.2008 02:57 PM

standard drive cups are 8mm, the originals on my raze's front and rear pinions are. I chose HotBodies Cups because they were cheap. I will need to find one shorter Cvd, that will be decided when i mount the motor... it should be here soon.

rcmonkey 04.21.2008 03:56 PM

Ok thanks, do you have any other information about moving the shaft inside the motor? I found a picture of the shaft and there is only notches for e clips or something similar, I don't see how it could be adjusted.

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=6495

brushlessboy16 04.21.2008 03:57 PM

the e-clips are to be removed, the shaft will be held in the motor by the setscrews it has. :D

Sweet, are you just going to dremel a flat in the other end for the drive cup?
