Hybrid Revo Power Plant
Here we go again Guys!
After not really being satisfied with the Driveability and amp draw requirements of the Direct Drive to Diff Revo. It's time to re-vamp the setup. Here's what I intend to transplant into the Revo. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t...m/DSC06858.jpg http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t...m/DSC06859.jpg http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t...m/DSC06860.jpg The Motor was originally a 715kv Century 600 Outrunner. It's stator is a 3530. This is the one that was rewound to a 4 turn motor with a Wye Termination. Estimated kv is now in the 800 to 850 range but with more torque. It hauls ass in the Original E maxx, but anything over 4S will rip the teeth off the Tranny Output gear. Traxxas may have answered this problem by coming out with a new tranny that is 2 1/2 times tougher? Well let's see about that. Now for the parts arrangement: Custom input shaft made of hardened 5mm rod. Custom input gear made from the original E maxx input shaft. Temper was first removed, then the holes were tapped for a matching pair of 4mm set screws. Then I re-tempered it, and installed it with Green Loctite. The set screws rest on flat seats that were put into the input shaft with a Dremel tool. Custom Output Shaft - In order to retain the same length Center CVD's, a Revo Output shaft was used. It's a close match, but there is a shoulder on each side of the center piece that must be removed. This was easily done in a drill press using a file. Custom Motor Plate with ESC Mount. - Space is pretty limited in the Revo, so this gives us a nice heat sinking place to mount the ESC. The Input Shaft was intentionally made extra long. If I can come up with a suitable fan, the motor can help pull Air up under the "heat sink" ESC mount. Plans are to mount a Quark 125 Monster Pro and run this on 6S. The Revo has the Buggy gears (3.3:1 Ratio) along with RCM's 1/8th Diffs. Any thoughts? |
Wow Sike, that looks sick!!
|
How long before this appears on ebay, and how much $$?...
I like it- the outrunner bolted directly to the tranny saves space & looks alot neater; you just need to choose the kv rating and voltage carefully and theres nothing else to worry about except enjoying the ride. The esc mount plate is clever too- I wouldnt mind seeing some 'mounted' pics with everything bolted ontot the revo- does it stick up alot or not so much (above the body posts- might be a little exposed is all Im thinking about if you landed on your lid at any time). Looks good so far. |
Nifty, I like this idea. Time for some testing, and vids!
|
thats just awesome man...love the looks of it!
|
where could i get a good outrunner similar to that with high enough kv to run on 4s and be fast... fast = lets say 8xl on 4s... possibly could take it up to 6s if the MMM is ever out...
|
Hook it up with the vids man.... !! that looks awesome.
|
Hey sikeston it looks great. Just one thing; in your first pic that motor screw is REALLY CLOSE to those windings... I'm sure it isn't touching them or you would have corrected it already but it's bugging the heck out of me!
|
Looks cool as hell man! cant wait to see it run.

Ideas.
Hello Sikes. Another interesting idea. That is the thing I like about you. You will not give up until you find something that will just kick ass and make most of us fall out of our seats watching the videos:yipi:. I hope that works for you. It sure looks good, but I am wandering if the tranny will hold up to the kind of power you will slam into it? We all know that you will push it to the limits just to give it the full test:yes:. Of course that looks to be your only weak point in the drivetrain so far:whistle:. Nice concept and clean setup as usual from your shop:mdr:. It will be very cool to see how this one works out. Your last project was pretty tough, and it is awsome to see how much effort you put into your artwork. Thanks for sharing them with us. Good luck with that one.

Nice to see that you have also seen the advantages of an iutrunner which is directly mounted into the tranny

Thanks BL. Actually I've been playing around with this kinda thing for awhile now. One of these will really lay down the power. I'm excited about the new E Revo. I think I will put this project on hold until I can buy one of those. This will bolt right on! |
This project won't be "on hold" much longer. Last night I purchased an E Revo. It's on it's way here to my very own house! :yipi:
This motor/tranny combo should fit the newly designed chassis perfectly. I'm just wondering if the stock center driveline is beefy, or is there somewhere I can get some steel center cvd's for the new E Revo? For now, ESC of choice will be a Quark 125 amp Monster Pro. I would go with a Modded MM(Cap, CC BEC, and a fan), but 4S just isn't gonna push the limits for this bad boy. I'll try it out first on 4S, but I think 5S or 6S will be more suited. The best of both worlds will go into this one. This along with all the best parts of my other E Revo. Those RCM 1/8th conversion diffs with 3.3:1 gearing. They held up to the custom wound AXI 4130. They should handle this just fine. On the subject of reliable smooth 6S operation, Did I hear someone say Monster Mamba? I can't wait! |
E-Revo with this interesting design...that's somethin'......
Dont forget the Vids...... |
I think the revo cebter driveshafts will hold up. Are you going to swap the rcm hybrids into the new erevo, or just swap the front and rear ends?

But there are choice items that I will need to stock spare parts for. I know I'm gonna break an A arm at sometime. It's the "oops" factor. LOL I'll probably just swap the front and rear ends. Then save the new ones for spare parts. |
Just ordered a pair of the 8mm Driveshaft yokes from Mike.
I almost forgot, I'm gonna need those for the RCM diffs. |
