Monster Feedback
Seem to be quite a few people having issues with the Monster. Anyone here got positve feedback or even negative feedback on the Monster and what setup were you using?
|
Great results so far. 4s lipo scale/basher with a 20t 540. Lots of crawling so the BEC got a workout. I will plop it in my emaxx with the 1515 1y shortly and see how it does.
So far a few people have had problems that sound like the BEC going out, I wouldn't call it quite a few by any means. For every bad unit there are hundreds of good ones, and it is too be expected on the first run that there might be some baddies in there. |
I read somewhere that you can use a External BEC instead of using the internal one?
|
You can, but it won't power the control board.

Anyone know what the go with warranty is? Or we'll find out tomorrow when CC is open?
What happens with freight? I don't want it to arrive, put it in my car, put the car on ground and then something goes wrong and I have to pay for it to go all the way back to America |

The way back costs round about 50 $ and a long waiting time :> (insurend) horrorshow ^^ Titan |
I think they have sold a lot more esc then just the three. With the numbers of escs that they are shipping direct to customers you are bound to get a few duds and when they all are getting found out at the same time it can seem like a lot. The failure rate is still most likely under 1%.
|
Yeah, and shipping back to the states isnt too bad, I got my MM back to CC, registered+insured for $20, took 6 days to get there.
|
I received my MMM wednesday and put all of the connectors on set up the usb/computer settings and went to setup the receiver and no yellow light.I called Castle and they told me I waa the first to call with a problem we straightened that out downloaded the new firmware and went out to test the MMM and it performed flawlessly.I am running 4s and a Neu 15151.5d/f.It sucks that some of the MMM have been defective and some of these setups are the same as mine and that worries me.
|
I've already posted this in another thread, but I have positive feedback.
I ran mine on 6s2p a123 and 5s 8k lipos last night and it works great on both. I ran it for about 15 minutes total until it got dark. It was in a 3905 E-maxx with a 9XL geared 24/68. |
I'm starting to worry as well. I live far away & a warranty claim will take a long time & I will have to fight customs again to prove that it is a repair unit etc. etc. Anyway, I'm still optimistic that things will work out.
DRIFT_BUGGY, I'm likely to get mine mid week. I think I will try it in my Jammin' running a Neu 2600kv on 4S 6000 PQ. I'll swap out my double decker MM. If weather permits, I'll be running in hot humid condition with ambient temperature in excess of 30 Deg C & humidity close to 100%. Regards, Joe Ling |
It's a concern that a handful (3?) have a gone bad. But it's too early to know if there is a widespread problem.
I hope you guys that live across the oceans don't have any issues. But... at least we know that IF you do, it will get taken care of by one of the best companies in r/c. I have an Mtroniks that I had to send across the Atlantic once... but they also did an awesome job and quickly replaced it at no cost. I was very happy to have it fixed for under $10 shipping. That's the kind of service Castle has too. |
Castle has a one year warranty.
|
Castle generally doesn't even look at the warantee I've found - If it broke through normal use i.e. not abuse / physical damage or over volting CC have always done me very well.
When I've "abused" my MM and it toasted just fess up and pay the flat fee and they are happy. CC / RCM / B-P-P (in no order) are my three TOP companies for customer service! |
Here is a positive response for all of those getting worried...
I ran mine yesterday all day at a race event in my XB808. The esc ran like a top all day. No issues at all. No thermal issues, no wierd performance problems, no quirky behavior. It just did what it was supposed to do and by the end of the day I stopped even thinking about the esc temps. Where as, prior to yesterday that was pretty much my only concern after a run... Whats the esc temp. Setup was: Xray XB808 Monster Max Neu 1512/2.5D 5s 4350mah lipo Geared for 38-40mph I did have some motor temp problems yesterday though. It seemed like the temps just kept going up and up all day. I think I might have a bearing going bad in the Neu. Started the day in the 160 range (still to hot IMO) and ended the day 200+. I'm gonna send the motor in to Neu and have them take a look. There is no way it should be running that hot. I was only geared for 38-40 mph in a 7.5 lb buggy. The only real complaint I have about the MMM is the stick programing on it really sucks. I couldn't figure it out for anything. (And I have programmed ALOT of ESCs in my day) I kept trying and trying to change settings with the stick programing at home on Friday night so I could make setup changes at the track without dragging a computer with. Every time I went trough it I then plugged it into the computer to read what the settings actually were after I programed it with the stick method and all I can say is I was never right. I gave up after about the 10th attempt at getting it right and reluctantly dragged the computer to the track. |
So what connectors is everyone using?
And anyone cut any wires shorter? |
Hey heres some positive feedback.I shot this video in the backyard of My Monster Mamba Max I have a Neu 1515/1.5D/F and 4s 6000.My Monster ran great. The runtime wasnt that great though.I also ran a 3s 6000 battery in it and it still hauled a**.:diablo::diablo:
