Latest Project, E-jato

Hey guys, been doing a little brainstorming whilste runnin the Outrunner Raze....in short i want to go FASTER!
I really Like the capabilities of the Jato, its built for speed but with yucky nitro (ewwww:rofl:) I really want to do a Jato Conversion....

I plan on running:
MM
5s 4000mah zippy zipo
Feigao Xl or L motor (turn undecided)

32p gears

I want to shoot for 75mph... Kind of high but i think its posssible from a 6lb truck.

BrianG's Calculator tells me that i need a Wanderer/Feigao 11 or 12L, about 2100kv.

Should i get an Xl with a comprable kv instead?

BrianG 05.14.2008 09:41 PM

That's gonna be a heavy Jato with 5s and an L motor!

One thing you'll notice that with the Jato being RWD and the majority of the weight in the middle is poor traction in dirt. Certainly driveable, but a little squirrely. But if this is just for speed, then you should be ok.

FYI: I have the MM 4600 system in mine, single speed tranny, on 2s, geared 54/22 (IIRC) and it was clocked at 47mph. Not fast, but considering I could easily go up to 4s...

brushlessboy16 05.14.2008 09:42 PM

Do u think i could get away with a S motor?

brushlessboy16 05.14.2008 09:42 PM

This is going to be purely a street basher, dirt very sparingly

lincpimp 05.14.2008 10:38 PM

Get one of the 1/8" shaft 50mm medusa motors. They are good motors and can handle the heavier battery pack. I did a jato, and it was ok. Not my favorite though.

I have a Rustler with 4s 9L (2700 KV) motor, and I have speeds in the 70mph area no way can you drive it in the dirt, I see no reason for anything larger than a L can, and I have tried the stock 48 pitch , 32 pitch and Mod ! gears...Mod 1 are far the best

e-mike 05.14.2008 11:04 PM

one off my friend to this swap on is jato.....:surprised:first run the second speed explode:mdr:

no choice to make the one speed modiff...but for the rest its very close to a rustler but more durable and have better control:whip:

(sory for my poor english)

Thats what im looking for, something very light and fast :D, that spells jato

Very nice!!! why cant they make a 13s..... that would be perfect, ehhh

with the 12s, and 5s lipo it would be pushing 53,560rpm unloaded..... think thats pushing it too far? or would it benifit me to get a L can

you could go with a 12L ....with a 5s that would give you about 38,000RPMs about the max I would send through the Feigao, and with the extra torque you can gear it up, which is what I have done

jzemaxx 05.15.2008 12:26 PM

Go XL size if you can fit it.....

BrianG 05.15.2008 12:29 PM

Or just get a Neu 1509 or 1512 (if you want severe speed/power). Don't have to worry as much about rpm and won't have any heat issues...

Or a medusa v2 if you want to save some money over the neu. The 50mm version looks to be compareable to the 1506, maybe not in material quality thought. I have the 60mm version and it has plenty of power to run an 1/8 buggy. The 50mm would make a jato scream. The 2200kv model on 5s would be plenty, but those motors can handle 50k rpm.

brushlessboy16 05.15.2008 03:22 PM

Its gonna be sorta budget so im probably gonna go with a feigao, but do i NEED an xl motor on 5s or can i get an S motor?

jzemaxx 05.15.2008 03:56 PM

Either will work.....here is an 8XL on our bullet stampede....lol

Wow that sucker really goes!

brushlessboy16 05.15.2008 04:04 PM

hmm, but you think the weight savings would be anything worth moving to the l or xl?

jzemaxx 05.15.2008 04:05 PM

I personally think the bigger the motor the better. Less stress, less heat.

brushlessboy16 05.15.2008 04:15 PM

Hmmm.... i should have kept my 8xl :D

e-mike 05.15.2008 04:22 PM

my friend run with a 5700 kv(mamba) on 11,1 volt:surprised:it was a rocket set-up:mdr:and the motor never reach over 130F

Not to bash you but that is pretty hard to beleive. CM36S series motors are one of the more sensitive motors to gearing and unless you have gearing down to a perfect match i just dont see getting those temps are feasible. All the CM36S series motors that Ive seen ran hot to extremely hot no matter how you geared them.

e-mike 05.15.2008 04:49 PM

with this set-up bashing its the only way to have fun....but its really true:mdr:..nerver over temp the motor ,the pack and the esc.....curiusly the only thing he broke it is the front bearing on the motor:surprised:and the second speed,,,

brushlessboy16 05.15.2008 05:39 PM

Well Takedown showed me a sweet little motor, its the Ammo 36-56... just a hair under the size of an xl, its like an anorexic xl...... the kv is 1800. Hey anyone out there can u tell me whats the tallest gearing that can fit on a Jato? Right now with the 1800kv 25/54 and 5s on 4.1" tires its only making 64mph.. thinking of getting a 7xl like Jzeemax said.. less stress on the motor.. and its 2383kv with the same gearing its pushing almost 80mph!!!!

so depending on if someone buys/trades the raze i might start work on this one...

Takedown 05.15.2008 07:46 PM

80mph is pure insanity at its heart. Hitting past 65mph will be difficult to control let alone not crash. I say setup first with a low gearing setup then gear up.

brushlessboy16 05.15.2008 07:56 PM

I dont think controlling it would be a problem.. Not to gloat but i think im an alright driver, i can probably handle it

lincpimp 05.15.2008 08:06 PM

Go to mod 1 pinions, you can go to 25/40, or maybe even smaller spurs, depending on motor to tranny clearance.

I agree with TD, it sure is fun to run at the high speeds but its rather a surprise if I dont break something after a run, I have been going through front end parts mostly now...I have broken a set of RPM caster blocks...I have a set of AL ones on order from Mike.....also I have been using a set of Ananconda tires...thay are a bit too grippy for my tastes, I think I might go back to the solid foams I was running earlier my stance is as wide as they are with the Traxxas wheels but there is no tire ballooning

brushlessboy16 05.15.2008 09:18 PM

Well i can always gear it for bashing and occasionally for speed runs

brushlessboy16 05.15.2008 09:34 PM

According to traxxas i can fit a 20/40 gearing setup on this thing... that opens quite a few doors...

brushlessboy16 05.16.2008 07:36 AM

OK maybe i Lied, I just put my pride and joy on ebay A 1990 Yz125..... if it sells i might get a medusa or equivelant...

If your interested its got:
New Piston and Rings
New Bore
New Main bearings and Seals

Only 5hrs on the new components....
anyways.....
If i do get a decent amount for it, what SHOULd i get?
hehe, a Lehner xl2400....

Its looking like either a Feigao 10/11L or the Nue 1512/2d

or still possibly the MR 36-50-2200

Takedown 05.16.2008 08:33 AM

I say get a better r/c before you get electronics if you plan to get rid of the raze.

brushlessboy16 05.16.2008 08:47 AM

what do u mean?

brushlessboy16 05.16.2008 08:49 AM

Possibly a mgt 3.0

Takedown 05.16.2008 02:24 PM

That would be nice! It reminds me of a quality t-maxx.

bl-is-future 05.16.2008 02:26 PM

t-maxx quality?? not trying to bash but heard that t-maxx is junk with out hopups like RPM or something. I honestly wouldnt know for myself because i have stayed clear of them. Everyone i know that has one runs RPM.

Takedown 05.16.2008 02:36 PM

No no no... The t-maxx isnt quality. What Im saying is its like a t-maxx but its quality.

K i understand the statement now. Never seen them mgt 3.0 in action. i love my savage and just hesitant to explore beyond that i guess. I did go traxxas once with the jato 3.3 and while it was fast and fun it didnt hold up to abuse very well. I need a truck that will never break :lol::lol::lol: dont we all though:whistle:

brushlessboy16 05.16.2008 03:05 PM

hmmm, well what are you waiting for, start bouncing ideas off me :D

bl-is-future 05.16.2008 03:16 PM

well i say if you want on road yet able to go light off road the jato is the way to go. but like everyone else said it will be heavy. if you stricktly want onroad speed get a touring car. The jato is also 2 wheel drive and is a very squirrelly vehicle. i know hpi makes the mt2 which is 4 wheel drive but again is heavy. Personally i like to be able to go off road and have speed so i would go with the mt2 because of the 4 wheel drive yet it is small enough to get going fast, just not sure of 80 mph fast.
l

brushlessboy16 05.16.2008 03:35 PM

hmmm, the MT2 would be a good candidate. but i still like the looks of the jato :D
