New record MT GPS run and Video again, record 80.4mph

Well guys took the MMT out again today on 12S. The crosswind was bad again...ALL the cars out today were all over the place and no one could get a clean run. I only got 3 partial runs before the truck would spin out, but nonetheless it was a new mph record again. Truck went 80.4mph and still using the same 1521, Turnigy setup. Throttle was still not 100% as it kept trying to lift off. On a clean run it should reach 84-85mph...but until then I will have to just settle for this pass until the wind and weather conditions are better.

Video will be uploaded on Monday I hope.....

jzemaxx 05.18.2008 12:30 AM

Also not to leave the other guys out....some buddies of mine showed up Rustler VXL on 3S lipo and 76/35 gearing on Talons went 71.7mph. Also another went 85.9mph I believe with a TC3 brushless which was very impressive. Once he gets his range issues squared away it should be a solid 90mph car as its still accel. when it gets out of range. Also the super fast Stampede which has the Stampede record destroyed the transmission just getting warmed up....oh well. We are all planning to head out again with more new parts and more power....lol.

On a side not we did some drag racing and I will upload the vids of it as well. My truck against my friends emaxx with Gorilla Maxx chassis 8XL and MMM. Both of us on 4S it came down to whoever could get the truck off the line fast enough.....very fun.

Nabors 05.18.2008 02:05 AM

Just got done looking over every thing after today. My TC3 is fine i'm shopping for a new motor tho the 380c 6t isn't happy on 4s. But my G-MAXX was almost a disaster half of the screws on the rear skid plate came out the only thing holding the rear of the truck on is the carbon fiber top plate.:oh: I had the rear diff out last night and didn't use thread lock in my rush to get it back together for today.:slap:

mk351e 05.18.2008 11:49 AM

jzemaxx, you're nuts! It's so awesome! I look forward to your videos, I just REALLY hope you got a better cameraman this time ;)

Also, I just got my phaltlines yesterday, though I still need some other stuff, like, uh, my motor. Anyway, I know you're running these too, so if you do ever stumble across a better monster truck tire for street use, please let me know, or post up here! I think there's going to be a wave of 70+mph monster trucks coming withing the next several months/years. I gotta say though, when I opened the package I was impressed; I've never had an R/C tire that actually smelled like rubber! Kewl!

jzemaxx 05.18.2008 12:00 PM

Yeah the phaltines are great, but I think I reached their limit. They keep either blowing in half, popping off the rims, or killing the foams inside. Time for something new,but it has to be more then 5.11" since that is the WFRCCC rules. I'm looking already and have some in mind, but have to get hex conversions....arrgghh

bdebde 05.18.2008 01:28 PM

jzemaxx,

Are you taping your phaltlines?

jzemaxx 05.18.2008 01:38 PM

Yeah.....still no better...

lutach 05.18.2008 04:20 PM

That's awesome JZ. Hey B4Maz found a great place to have the speed event. I contacted the lady that does the Texas Mile event and she sounded very interested. She even said it can be done in conjuction with the October event. They use a airport and it has 2 huge runways. If the runways can't be used, you guys might be able to use the roads next to it. I posted more info in here: http://www.radiocontrolzone.com/showthread.php?t=248408 and http://lincit.myzen.co.uk/rcspeedfre...wtopic=84&st=0.

bdebde 05.18.2008 04:36 PM

Is it worth taping the phaltlines if just doing about 55mph?

jzemaxx 05.18.2008 08:17 PM

Nope not worth taping....just glue them good and they are great for 60 easily.

Yeah I have been watching those posts. Some of my customers run on that strip. It is a nice place to run and the pavement is decent. Should be fun....

I will try to make the event if they decide to have one...though this year will not be a good one as my wife is due our firstborn around that time of year....so I may not be able to make it. But I will see....

I have some other ideas for this truck as to see if I can get to 90mph. Getting it into these higher speeds is getting tough....aerodynamic brick wall is what I feel like I have hit.

Early congrats on your firstborn. I might not make it as well. My daughter's grandma didn't give me an answer yet. A wing in the front of your truck will do. It will be enough to get the air to flow over the front of the truck and that will reduce drag.

mk351e 05.18.2008 09:06 PM

so whachya got ni mind there jzemaxx??

Wouldn't it be nice to have something belted? Also, have you tried sealing up the holes in the rims so the tire can't breathe? I'm thinking this may limit ballooning.

Belted tires will come after I meet with my uncle in Brasil .

jzemaxx 05.18.2008 09:57 PM

Yeah I have been thinking about a front wing, but I don't know if its legal for WFRCCC runs or not?? Anybody know....????

It is legal. Actually the only rule change made is for the trucks.

I could certainly go for some belted tires. I have some on my 1/10th touring car, and a set for my 1/8th buggy for speed runs.

So they made a rule change allowing wings on trucks??

The only rule that was actually set was for the max size of the vehicle and I hope they change that, because 1/4 scale can't compete. The only new rule is for the trucks as the tires have to be outside the body and they put a minimum height and width on them. Anything else goes as far as I know. Any aerodynamics that will help you go faster can be done. You can even add 4 motors to your truck to help . So add a wing to that bad boy and let it rip. I have to see that monster go over 100mph.

These will be completely different from any tires you've seen. My uncle only uses the best rubber as they make protectors that goes inside truck tires. With the excess he's already making all kinds of stuff. He made sandals and ashtrays. I have attached pictures of the rubber ashtrays he made.

jzemaxx 05.19.2008 10:03 AM

Hmm, I'll check on making a wing then.

Count me in if they ever become reality.

Make it Indy car style. Make it adjustable so you can mess with downforce.

Awesome.

jzemaxx 05.20.2008 05:59 PM

Problem is everytime we have been out there the past 2 times the crosswind has been VERY high. Probably 15-20mph......and it pushes the truck to one direction badly. I hope to nail down a clean run once the winds calm down further this summer. Hope to hit 84-85mph or so with the same combo....if not more with the next motor.

One question, did you buy that 40.160H that was in Ebay? If so, get a bigger pinion and let it rip. The 40.160 has been capable of putting out 300A. With 12S and a bigger pinion, I can see 100mph after a wing is added to keep the front end down.

Unfortunately I didn't.....still running the HV Sent. I don't know if 100mph is possible, but I may end up trying. I want to finish my fast buggy...but I haven't had the time. Also I need more motor......that 1521 is putting out about all it can do.

rhylsadar 05.21.2008 03:47 AM

i honestly have to admit that if one watches the video it doesn't seem to go even close to 80mph. so that must be very misleading from just watching the vid. how accurate are such gps measurments? don't get me wrong. if you say that thing goes 80mph it may be so. it just doesn't look like on such a video.

just for a comparison here is very old video of mine with a bl mp7.5, at 1.10 e.g. there is a pass by that seems not so slow just from watching it. and that buggy not even reached 50mph back then. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgJpHjMqqbM

whatever. its not that i cared much but i was just a little surprised from watching the vid.

It sometimes depends on the frame rate of the video, it might make a vehicle look slower. From what I've been told the GPS (If you do get a reading) are sometimes more accurate then the radar guns available to the public. I've also noticed that if the camera is still, the vehicles being video taped seems faster, but when the camera follows the vehicle it seems slower.

I was there and had my radar gun with me you can see me holding it in the video the truck did go 80mph.

So many factors affect how your eyes gauge speed, you can never use them realistically as to determine it. This was something I had a conversation about with my brother (who is a cop) and some of his cop friends several years back. They were discussing how impossible it was to accurately tell a vehicles speed just watching and how most of the time there guesses were way off when compared to the radar readings. Things they said affect it greatly is other traffic on the road, trees and height of them, road width, weather (clouds, sun , etc), time of day, and noise level around and from the vehicle.

rhylsadar 05.21.2008 10:35 AM

yeah i totally agree that its difficult to guess the speed by just watching at a vehicle. thats just what i was saying. when i watched the vid i would never have estimated that it was going that fast. but i easily believe that it can go 80mph. i mean why not.

It is true. Ever wonder why in a go kart you seem to be going really fast even if you are doing 50mph? Anyone can try this out. Go to your local go kart track (If you have one near by and if they allow such speeds) and get to 50mph. After that when you go home compare that to the 50mph in you real vehicle.

jzemaxx 05.21.2008 10:59 AM

Yeah the Nabors was there shooting the radar at the same time.......the radar was within 1mph of all our runs. I know on the Rustler that ran about 30 times...hehe. It radared 72mph on the bushnell and 71.7mph on the GPS. That ought to tell you how accurate they are.....

jzemaxx 05.22.2008 08:29 PM

The MMT is now apart for a little bit, getting some upgrades done and will be back out with a different motor next time.

Still around....just tired of replacing tires. Truck did end up going faster, but at the expense of blowing up phatlines left and right....it got old. Since no foams are allowed I'm at a stopping point. I have another motor and alot more power left on the table. But until someone can address the tire problem I'm done. With foams I could probably break 90+mph even with this big MMT.
