Video - Electric vs Nitro Truggy race
Hello,
Hey guys, so I was at the track yesterday and one someone was just watching the races so I asked him to video tape my truck. This is a brand new track, very small and very new. The guys racing don't have a lot of racing experience but they all have the right attitude. It's friendly and getting better each week. Yesterday was my second time there. While the beginning and end of the video was clipped, the end score was... (fastest) Nitro Truggy - 14 laps my Electric Truggy - 17 laps I kind of felt bad but honestly I was holding back a bit. This was the LAST race with my old motor and the track's watering system was broken so the track was super dry (and slippery as ice.) Here you go: |
Awesome.
|
wow that thing has some scoot on the back straight!
|
Nice vid. the guying filming that did a great job! That is definitely one of the best track vids I have seen.
|
very well driving, very well filming,
congratulations. |
Very nice. So what were the temps of all the components at the end of your 17 laps? And what motor are you using? Nice driving by the way. :mdr:
|
Thanks guys.
Temps...let me preface by saying this was the LAST run for this old motor. It's a FD XLT-1 which in all fairness has served me well but it's cooked. 195 degrees after just 5 mins of running on the motor. ESC was 130 degrees. Batteries were 120 degrees. The CRT has LSP ring & pinion in the F&R diff housings (to lower gearing), running a 46T plastic spur and an 11T pinion...I have no idea what the kv of the XLT-1 is, I've been using it for 2 years so I'm about to switch to known products... |
Nice video! And good filming by the other guy as well. Any pictures of your CRT?
|
Yup, very nice driving.

Great
That was a great effort on your part. Like we have been saying on here speed is not everything. Just like horse jumping, you can have the fastest, healthiest, most beautiful horse, but if you cannot get a clean round none of that will do you any good. You kept things pretty much under control and did not try to run the tires off of your rig. Very good showing for brushless power. Way to go man, and yes your camera guy has a future with ESPN. Thank for sharing that with all of us. How long was that runtime? And what batteries were you running?
|
that vid was great, and some ewcellent driving to

Nice driving Mac, and nice video! That XLT-1 is a 6XL I believe, which is something like 2600kv? I would not be surprised if it cooked, you have to be careful with it anyhow.
|
looks good Dave. I never saw the oakville track before. You plan on going to Lestersa anymore? I know they are suppose to be doing friday night racing now but haven't gone over to check out the turnout.
|
No competition! The nitros looked like they were getting in your way.
|
Oh yeah, I still want to go to Wolcott regularly. I went up there a few weeks ago on a Sunday and there was not enough guys to race! I know they all were out chasing trophies - and that's got it's place - but I'm just a little more into the weekly club race scene. Plus I really like the Saturday afternoon racing. I've got time to get some stuff done around the house, hit the race and still have all day Sunday to recoup before work starts on Monday. Friday night would never work for me, I'm too spent from the week, Friday night is "date" nite with my wife.
Pin Shop is cool but when I need to air the truck out, I'll be up at Wolcott. You should talk with the 1/10th guys and see if you guys can try out Pin Shop one Saturday. It would be nice to have more diversity of vehicles there. |
Most of the 10th scale stuff is now at the rchr track in waterbury. We run indoors on a 75x45 track. Its a very nice track and usually get about 20 guys on a wednesday night and I think about the same on saturdays.
http://www.rchr.biz/ http://www.rctech.net/forum/showthread.php?t=188365 Wolcott hobby's is much bigger as you know and basically all 8th scale. They closed there indoor track after the winter season ended. What time is racing at oakville? If it starts late enough maybe I will check it out when I get the e-revo. Do they limit you at all on the electric conversions? I am looking at going 6s on a 1515 3d motor and want to make sure they dont limit you to 4s like the pro series does (atleast I think that is there rule). thanks |
I know about Mark W's place there, it looks very nice, I didn't realize that his time on Sat is a direct conflict with Pin Shop...oh well, maybe if the weather is nice and you guys want to come outside to play, give it a shot.
As for limitations, there are none. Remember, it is a small track so having huge power or speed will actually hurt you here. Most of the Nitro guys have that problem, way too much speed into the corners...you should see the "MT" class guys, lots of 28's in LSTs and such which are just out of control. Hope to see you there sometime. |
I am looking at 6s just to get the benefits of hv. Not really to get anymore power just run cooler and more efficent. I would run the 1515 3d motor which is only 1360kv.
That track looks alright. Not to many jumps, kinda reminds me of xtreme's in new milford. How big is it anyways? Looks to be about the same size as new milfords was. Anyways what time do they start? If its before 1pm then I really cant make it. I have to wait for the other half to come home to take care of the little one. |
Good stuff. You're a pretty good driver too, so I'm sure that's in your favor;). The BL truggy does look like it has plenty of pep though!
|
Nice vid and nice pics
|
Smooth driving - most of the nitros seemed to be having a lot issues with the course.
|
u seemed slower actaully. the nitros cleared the jumps by heaps, and you could just brake, and turn and get in front of them that way! (esp with this closest corner...) nice job, i hope i can be that good sometime soon (consistant!)
A+ and i liked the fact i could actaully see what was happening... good camera crew :D |
