Have MGM worked the bugs out of their controllers yet?

just wondering if they have fixed their issues w/their esc's

david lamontagn 06.29.2008 08:05 PM

Which issue:neutral:
LVC?
Cutoff?
Brake?

magman 06.29.2008 08:11 PM

Not sure which one to ask about. My friend has his heart set on one and I told him that I would inquire here for some info. It seems that quite a few people have issues w/their controllers of one reason or another.

I have been running my 16024 with the latest software (3.23) for a couple of weeks now. I can say that I have seen no problems whatsoever, after having many problems and quirks with the previous version software. I would say that it appears it is all fixed, but make sure you are using very good batteries, as that gave me the most problems in the beginning.

+1 same thing for me.

But for the 3.23 version can i down load it on their web site?
I've the 3.21 in my 16018, what's the difference between the 3.23 aand 3.21?

TexasSP 06.29.2008 10:43 PM

Mine with the 3.23 still woudn't run 6 poles but runs the neu and medusa fine. Braking and all other parts mentioned work well. I do not like it as much as my MMM but it's still a good esc.

bdebde 06.30.2008 12:29 AM

I like my MGM better than my MMM (right now anyway), since the MMM died twice and is currently at CC awaiting new production.

Yeah 3.23 version is on their website, not sure what the changes are though.

TDC57 06.30.2008 03:31 AM

I've got 4 of them two work and two don’t.

Working:
22418 on 4 & 5s no issues with anything!..
Compro 160 on 6 & 8s no issues at all with anything!.

Not working:
12012 (NEW 24hrs old) Lasted 3' before it went up in smoke today on 4s. :grrrrrr:
16016 (purchased broken) for a great price, when it's repaired it will be a killer controller!.

Overall I would still recommend the MGM, but it not perfect.

coolrunnings 06.30.2008 03:42 AM

I have a brand new mgm 224.18 that I never used and just recently sent it to mgm to get the firmware update from 3.1 to 3.3 they say the whole thing will take a month for shipping both ways and you have to send them a money order for 20.00 to cover shipping.

david lamontagn 06.30.2008 06:18 AM

Yes i've send mine last winter for the SW upgrade, now i've 3.21 version in it. MGM have return me the controler with the CC_03 cable to be able to download futur version directly by my computer.
But i've only ranit on 4s with mechanical brake for now.
I've an e-revo that i'am to convert with my brushless stuff in it and i'll be runing it on 6s. But on the e-revo i can't use mechanical brake.
So i hop that my 16018 will hold up fine on 6s with motor brake:oh:

TDC57, what's your controler who's working on 6s and 8s???? you write 160, but which 160??? 16018?, 16024?

wallot 06.30.2008 07:42 AM

go nitro :) ........ just kidding

These are MGMs that me or my friends have.
12018 in maxx with feigao 9XL - no issues - older fw
16018 in LSP with feigao 9XL - no issues - 3.22
16018 in muggy with Neu - no issues - 3.22
16018 in my maxx with Neu - sometimes need to resync with radio for brakes to work - 3.22 but will upgrade to 3.23 as soon I have some break between nitro racing :)
4412 in shark with permax - same issue as in my maxx, same fw

david lamontagn 06.30.2008 08:36 AM

Wallot, did you run 6s in one of your truck?? Seam that the max cells you're runing is 5s:eyes:

And when you say that you have to resync with your radio, what do you mean by there???? Reprogramm the end point???

wallot 06.30.2008 09:47 AM

yeah reprogram end points

muggy runs on 6S without any issues (except burning couple aligns from very tall gearing :) )

david lamontagn 06.30.2008 10:01 AM

Did you use the motor or a mechanical brake on your muggy?

wallot 06.30.2008 04:35 PM

motor braking.
aligns died because muggy was geared for like 60mph and my friend was doing speed runs in grass. some people just dont listen

david lamontagn 06.30.2008 09:12 PM

What did you mean by burning couple aligns??
Excuse me but my english is about at 65%

Sorry David,
The 16024 is working great on 6 & 8s...

He is referring to the align brand motors. Most likely the Align 600XL which is used in the align 600 electric helicopter. Decent motors, but I like my neu better for monster trucks.

Desmo 06.30.2008 11:58 PM

My 22418 v3.22 has been working great in my elst running an outrunner. Right now the motor KV is to high for the heavy truck. If you can believe the data logger in the mgm esc its pulling 241amps at full throttle on 4s lipo's.

david lamontagn 07.01.2008 09:43 AM

Thank you guys!!
The only thing i have to do is wait for my e-revo and give a try to my 16018 on 6s:angel:

Finnster 07.01.2008 11:01 AM

I'm going to send my 9032 back for the update. Its been nearly perfect for me. The only glitch I had was an occational brake stab, but looks like this has all been resolved. I had swiched to the two spd and man brakes anyway so it didn't matter.

They catch a lot of flak, but the MGMs are really nice IMO. The software needed refining but the hardware it tops. Software is far more fixable than poor hardware design. My esc never got above 110F even on hot days WOT thru long grass in the revo.

magman 07.01.2008 07:02 PM

Does anyone know if the newer MGM controllers have the update already in them?

Yes they have. Just look at the RcMonster store, and they said in the MGM controller description:yes:

ncalenda 07.05.2008 07:07 PM

Am I able to update the firmware myself? Or do I have to send it to MGM? I have the PC USBCOM+ setup.

ncalenda 07.05.2008 07:19 PM

I just noticed this on MGM's website:

http://update.mgm-compro.cz/index.html

Has anyone used this? Looks like you can update the 16018 using this method.

fkadir 07.05.2008 10:14 PM

Yeah, you can use this method but your controller needs to be at V3.20 minimum and u need a special cable (cc_03) from MGM. Also your USBcom needs to be at V3.
