1/10-1/12 scale electric 4wd stadium/truggy?

Since being bitten by the bl bug I have wanted a larger version of my rc18t. Is there anything out there to fill this need that doesn't have to be converted from nitro? Is it possible to put a truggy body and wheels on a B44? Is the CRT.5 my best option for a conversion? I've been looking on ebay and found someone selling one but is way over priced in my opinion($450 with sidewinder 5700/$250 for roller) I can buy the CRT.5 pro for the same, sell the nitro stuff to cover the cost of a motor mount and have an extended chassis. Is that the best way? Does anyone have one they want to get rid of? Possible partial trade involving my vxl rustler minus esc or possibly a bl rc18t with extras? I know this is a lot for one thread.

Another nitro one you can look at is the Kyosho DST which should probably be larger than the CRT since it is 1/10 scale but I haven't seen one converted to electric yet.

The CRT.5 pro is the way to go. EZ conversion. There is also a Mini Hyper ST coming out as well that looks good.

CRT.5 is tough and can be run on 1/8th scale tracks. Very fast too. Where in Upstate are you. Arct1k, Cem Gates and I have one and have raced them around at Barnstormers in Chester, NY in Orange Co.

Arct1k 06.30.2008 11:46 AM

I have 2 of them :) and RC mike has one...

BrianG 06.30.2008 11:49 AM

hard to tell from the pics, but it looks like the LS10 has a slipper instead of a center diff, and comes with a plastic spur instead of steel...

I'm in CNY, Syracuse area. I'm hoping to get to the barn this summer. Guess I'm gonna start gathering funds for a CRT.5 pro conversion, as soon as I get my laptop back and can sell off some stuff! Was hoping to make the July has at the barn but my mmm is down so all I'd have is a vxl rustler or put the titans back in the e-revo

Arct1k 06.30.2008 12:08 PM

With a $50 deposit (CC replacement cost) you can borrow a modded MM.... I have 4 of them (all with UBECs, Caps and fans) + a quark125 (UBEC, Cap and fans) and a MMM at CC... I can't drive all of them at once... I run 5.5mm motor connectors.

E-Revonut 06.30.2008 12:21 PM

I appreciate the offer! I have a mm and cc bec, just need a fan for it I could use that. Any update as to when the July bash will be? I haven't checked the thread lately, all this is coming from my iPhone as my laptop has been out of service for 2 weeks.

I also found adding the novak HV cap really helped...

20th is the main event and I'm also trying for 27th - I maybe up there this w/e too!

But realy cheap, fragile, un-reliable, i had one too.

And the crt.5 is the way to go:wink:

There has also been good things posted about the electric CEN truck (1/10th).

i would stay away from the kysho they use really long and small driveshafts, i here they are breaking them on just the stock nitro, they wouldnt last NO time at all with brushless.

the LS10 is a great basher, just needs losi egiht-t body mounts, and the front and rear diffs filled. but its not that great of a racer, i mean with alot of time and setup adjustment im sure it could be but ive raced mine alot and it does fine unless your wanting it to run like a 1/8th scale, its just not setup good stock.

Ive seen two CRT.5s (both nitro) run in person and they handle MUCH better due to the center diff and not having a direct drive slipper like the ls10, lets the truck pull it self around the track rather than push it self or wheelie every where. These are definetly tough but they are more for the track than for bashing, id say the ls10 is tougher for bashing.

The new hyper mini ST is prolly just like the crt except with the angle motor nitro junk and a different chassis. wouldnt be surprised if they used the same front and rearend pieces.

The Cen st10/mt10 are pretty unique in that the driveshaft runs underneath the chassis and the motor sits side ways at the rear. (this would be extremely easy to convert) Cen makes tough veichles and has great parts support (if they dont have it instock its free) but it wouldnt handle like the CRT.5 prolly only as good as the LS10 becasue neither have a center diff.

There is a guy converting a B44 to T44 on RCTECH but the thing you got to also remember is that a buggy chassis is shorter than a truck chassis so it isn't going to be as big - http://www.rctech.net/forum/showthread.php?t=193155

Ok now for some more questions. I'm pretty much decided on the CRT.5 but can I acheive low to mid 30's on 2s? I'm not going to bother if I need to get 3s packs, I have (4) 6000mah 2s2p packs already that I've been running in my vxl and e-revo. I'm not looking for crazy speeds, just wondering if its to much for 2s. Also what is the popular motor choice, Without dropping the mega bucks on a neu? Is there anythimg besides a motor mount and battery box i need for the conversion? I will be mostly bashing with this as there isn't much demand for racing locally, but I heard that there is a track that was just built about 30 min from me so that may be changing.

E-Revonut 07.06.2008 02:32 PM

Ok I have purchased a crt.5 roller to start my project with. Now for some questions, I've read many threads on this truck but haven't really seen the answers for these questions. I'll start by asking what you guys think of using the MM4600 motor. I'm only looking for a top speed in the mid 30's, I have seen people using the 5700k/v motors and that seems like to much. I'm not looking for a rocket here, I'll be running 2S 6000mah maxamps lipo. Gearing: what is the stock gearing? 32p? Mod1? other? I'm really pretty much going to replace my rc18t with this so 35MPH is even an upgrade from that, just this should be a little more stable and track straighter with a bit more clearance. Any input is appreciated.

BrianG 07.06.2008 03:14 PM

You're gonna get different answers here, but I am not happy with the CC 4600 motor on 2s. In order to get temps I am happy with, I have to gear down to 12t, which makes top speed really low (mid/low 20's). I am planning to get a slightly larger motor, maybe a Medusa 50 series ot Neu 1506/09 motor. ~4600kv is fine, but the CC motors are just too small to run right. You'd probably have a much easier time getting the top speed and low temps with 3s and the appropriate motor.

Stock pitch is Mod1.

E-Revonut 07.06.2008 04:02 PM

well for now I'm def gonna stick with 2S as I have 4 of these packs already. Guess I'll be going with a feigao l series and gear it approprietlly.

E-Revonut 07.11.2008 08:25 PM

medusa 50 series a decent motor for a CRT.5?

Well I finally have a working computer again so now I can put up a pic of my build. I purchased a roller from CCristo with RCM motor mount to start with. I decided I wanted the extended chassis so I found a new OFNA extended kit on ebay. Using a MM esc and a Medusa 36-50-4800 motor running on 2S 6000mah MaxAmp packs. I built my own battery tray out of some alluminum as well as a plate to mount the esc and spektrum receiver abobe the center diff. I'm using a spektrum high torque servo fro the steering. The picture shows the truggy with the stock bowties but for general bashing I picked up a set of traxxas slash tires, untill I can find someplace that has the bandit anacondas in stock. This truck is absolutely amazing!
