Revo with centerdiff unloading

What can be done with the Revo center diff to keep it from unloading ?
I have tried Kyosho 500K and Ofna diff lock lube, I didnt notice much difference but from what I understand the Ofna diff lock should be thicker.

Get rid of the center diff. Revo is too heavy in the rear to use it. I tried a while, and took it right back out. Get the FOC instead ;). I did a search and found pretty much the same from everyone. Havn't found anyone yet happy with a center diff in Revo.

diff lock is as thick as it gets, whats your spur/pinion ratio? I have mine @ 38/18 and mine only gets out ouf contol after about 200 ft of WOT, I have been thinking about putting some lead weight in the front to keep the front end down...maybe about a couple of ozs, I have a CD with 500,000 wt . from what I have heard from other members the Revo CD doesnt do that much

TDC57 06.30.2008 09:38 PM

Azjc,
I've got 30,000 in my buggy CD, but you’re running 500,000 (?) Wow...:surprised:

I'm with 83gt,
Lose the CD on the E-Revo, that a heavy truck and your better off with a G1 single speed tran for $110.

the Revo Cd is different than a CD in a buggy, truggy, muggy...the Revo CD comes stock with 100,000 weight..its not that bad maybe if I get bored 1 day I will remove the tranny and put the stock shaft back in

t-rexn8 07.02.2008 10:41 AM

Is anyone racing with the CD?

BL_WidePede 07.02.2008 08:56 PM

The whole point of a center diff is to unload the power to the front (to a certain extent). If you want alot of wheelie action and solid power to the front/rear then put the stock shaft back in.

miniGranis 07.03.2008 05:15 PM

Thanks guys, I take it there are no aftermarket / current mods that will allow for a "proper" (truggy) centerdiff on a std. Revo chassis either ?

intrg8r 07.04.2008 06:16 PM

I bought this off of eBay. It supposedly is a full 1/8th scale diff for the the Revo. When it arrives, I will follow up with a review.

Check out the other link on the page. I think it is to the guy who made it.

the link you have is pretty much what the stock revo CD looks like

intrg8r 07.05.2008 01:15 AM

Nope, the link was to a full 1/8 scale center differential. Look at the size of the cup compared to the gear. The revo diff cup is considerably smaller than the drive gear. This one extends nearly to the edge of the drive gear. I will keep you informed when it arrives.

miniGranis 07.07.2008 06:41 PM

That 1/8 diff seems to be GiffrinRU's work or am I wrong ?

intrg8r 07.07.2008 08:44 PM

yes it is. Do you have one?

miniGranis 07.07.2008 08:49 PM

Nope but I am very interested to hear how it works and what parts are beeing used.
Post back when you get it.

intrg8r 07.07.2008 09:11 PM

Definately! If I could get my hands on a couple more I would. I know I could produce them if I get an extra one or two. They would be a hit out here on the west coast. Dudes love running the CD but the traxxas one is no good and lasts no more than a couple of hours. Plus as you know it only has the two spider gears and even running diff lock still unloads too much to the front axle. If this indeed a true ofna or hb style diff, with 4 spiders, it will be infinately more tuneable and reliable. In the same fashion as the V2 diffs. Just ordered my first set of those too! Can't wait to try them.

CCristo 07.08.2008 11:55 AM

All this talk about center diffs has got me interested in getting one of the "Cowboy" ones as shown in the ebay link and here. Cowboy said he has no interest in making any more, but did say he has no problems with other making them and even offered to provide drawings. Has anyone taken him up on the offer? What is the one Griffen is doing? I'd like to have a real center diff in my Revo

BrianG 07.08.2008 12:03 PM

I had a CD exactly like that in my Revo (got it from Squee a while back), and still couldn't get the oil mix right. It would either unload too much if the oil was too thin, or turning performance suffered with oil that was too thick. I just couldn't find a good mix.

I never tried it, but maybe an RD Quickturn may be better. Doesn't tame wheelies, but I can imagine it would make turning easier. Oh, and you won't have front braking with that device.

intrg8r 07.08.2008 03:39 PM

if someone puts me in touch with the originator I am more than willing to start producing these. There is a high demand in my opinion for a suitable option to replace the traxxas cd. I am fairly certain I could sell them. Thanks for the help. I don't know if Griffen made them or not, this may be one cowboy produced but I'm not sure. Any help in procuring drawings will be great. Thx!

intrg8r 07.08.2008 06:22 PM

thx chris, I pm'ed you. I can't figure out how to pm cowboy. Ben

CCristo 07.08.2008 06:37 PM

Hi Ben,

Go to the post that I linked to. click on Cowboys name and select "Send a private message to..."

intrg8r 07.08.2008 10:10 PM

Thanks Chris. I got ahold of him. By browser wasnt cooperating. I restarted it and shot him a pm. He is sending me the drawings. If there is anyone else that has one of these they want to get rid of let me know. I'm going to look into the cost benefit ratio of making them. I will keep everyone informed on the performance of this diff setup.

No, it is not designed by me. I bought it from (link was attached at ebay auction) cowboy-ray. He did a very nice job with this differential, long time before traxxas even seen the need to make one.
It is true 1/8 scale diff, not like 1/10 traxxas one, and it has nice support for bearings as well.

intrg8r 07.12.2008 12:26 PM

Thanks for clearing that up Griffin. I neglected to mention that indeed it was Cowboys. And it is a fantastic design.

intrg8r 07.20.2008 09:20 PM

Anyone have one of theses they want to get rid of? I have one and need one or two more for mock up for the machinist.

ffactory666 08.01.2008 02:08 AM

Any updates on this diff ?

intrg8r 08.02.2008 12:06 AM

Currently I am working on getting the gears ordered. There seems to only be 8 in stock and I am trying to find out whether or not they are going to be produced again.

miniGranis 08.19.2008 02:17 PM

Any news ?
