RCM endbell cover with new Neu's

hi everyone,

I was wondering if the RCM endbell covers for Neu motors have been changed to fit the new Neu's with the little screws in the endbell. If not, can they be modded to fit without breaking?

thanks
jordan

I have the new neu 1515/1y and I have rcm cover.

do I have to use the rear rcm cover with the new neu motor?

I just put it on, marked it where the screws are with a pen and then used a dremel where the screws are until it fitted.

You don't have to, it is only to keep debris getting in the rear of the motor

(for what it's worth) Mine came from Mike with the hole in the center and Yes i agree with DB it's just for keeping crap out of your motor.

Shaun, do you mean a hole in the centre where the shaft and bearing are? Is it necessary to have a rear cover if i'll be running mostly on grass?

Our endbell covers have been modified to fit with the new Neu motors(screwed endbells and larger bearings). There shouldn't be any necessary modifications with our current covers. :)

Mike do I have to buy the new cover? because I had a cover from you before 2 month and I don't use it at all

And is this cover an important with new neu design? (the new design has about 3 empty extra hole) and 3 for the wires

Thanks

lincpimp 07.05.2008 11:45 AM

How about a little bit of thick, sticky vinyl tape....

You should be fine, the cover is just an extra precaution to keep the dirt out. they are not required to run on a Neu motor, it does not slow it down, speed it up, or keep it any cooler.. Like Lincpimp says, black tape will also work.

coolrunnings 08.11.2008 09:21 AM

You will have to cut little holes in the cover, I saw the little notches for the screws but their not deep enough plus don't line up. And for some reason when you do cut the holes you need the cover wont snap on nice and tight like it did before the holes... so I used a little ziptie to hold her on tightly. I think next time I'm going to try lincpimps tape method.

i little heads up NEU has released another update on there motors and if you get one of the motors from the latest batch Mikes cover will not work, they have increased the thickness of the can where the screws go into the rear endbell, its now too large to fit in mike cover's i talked to mike about this last week when i found it out on my motor (which was from their newest batch) and he is working on an updated cover for these as you cant just cut out for the screws, but you also have to dremel out the entire inside diameter alot, so much that with the newest motors the screws heads stick out FARTHER than the fins and the cover, i havent gotten around to it yet but tonight i will try to get pictures up of what i am talking about. BUT by now mike might already have new covers worked up since its been over a week.

I just recieved a 1515/2d today made 7/2/08, it has the clear covering over the colored heat shrink on the motor wires, the endbell screws are phillips head not hex and the RCM cover with the predremeled slots is too small in diameter, the motor must be 1mm larger Dia. or something. On that note im buying some calipers.

RC-Monster Mike 08.14.2008 09:22 PM

It gets worse - I have seen a few Neu motors with the screws rotated about 25 degrees from their "normal" locations. I now have 3 versions of the endbell covers. The "original" with screw reliefs for motor made before July '08 (ish - not sure of the exact date), and 2 versions for the latest motors with the larger diameter(one "normal" and one with the screw holes rotated). The latest Tekno motors also have the larger diameter according to Neu (FYI, Tekno Dan - I also left you a voice mail regarding this).
Of course, this makes it hard to determine which cover you might need if you get the motor seperate from the cover(like from somewhere else). I may need a picture to determine the actual correct version!

that sucks big time mike, jsut gonna add alot of confusion to it, and ordering, and just the whole process.

and jayjay take a dremel with an endmill and just go around and around in end bell cover keeping the same light pressure at all times and just mill it out, this is what i had ot do to mine, and youll also to to cut reliefs for the screws, but becareful milling it out and onyl take of a tiny bit at a time and check your fit you do want it to be tight but not need two hands to put it on tight..........hope that helps ya.

Thanks Rootar & Mike, Ill post the pics here so you can check it out and see which I need, No big deal if you dont have larger ones I can just dremel it up like Rootar suggested..ive bought 3 Neus in about 8 months and everyone is different LOL Steve needs to cut that crap out...

If the changes are improvements for performance or making them cheaper to make and thereofre buy I am all for the new Neu changes. Nothing is perfect the first time out and having the motors evolve for the beter is great IMO.

tc3_racer_001 08.15.2008 04:04 AM

thats REALLY weird. i ordered a smooth can version and it has rubber tubing coming out from the wires, i had to ream the holes out to fit and now has to be taped on to hold it there :(

jayjay we need a pic like my first below of yours, alos notice how the screw is the farthest thing out of the motor and take note on the placement of the screws in relation to the motor wires, my second picture show where i took the endmill to it on the inside, if i were you id just go ahead and do this and save you and mike the trouble of waiting to get a new cover, itll only take 10 mins and you can make it fit however tight you want it too, mine almost snaps on.

good luck and remember just use light pressure, high speed, and testfit often.

jayjay283 08.15.2008 02:38 PM

Yeah the screws stick out farther than the fins
