MRC Baja King what bl setup should i use?

I have a nice MRC baja king that i want to setup for bl and am going to run 12 cells.....i was wondering what would be a good motor i want a mix of torque and speed but don't wanna kill the tranny lol....I was looking a feiago 8l or so....lmk guys thanks

RC-Monster Mike 10.04.2005 10:26 PM

Welcome to the forums, Thunderbruiser. The baja king will work quite well with the 8L, 9L, 10L or even the 7xl motors. I think I would use a 9L myself. It offers a nice balance of power and runtime.

Thunderbruiser 10.04.2005 10:41 PM

thanks,
and the 9L is ok on 12 cells? cause that's what is gonna be my main power source

nitrostarter 10.04.2005 10:49 PM

Sure! The 9L is great on 12-14 cells.

RC-Monster Mike 10.04.2005 10:50 PM

You will be pleased with the performance.

Thunderbruiser 10.04.2005 11:12 PM

cool you guys have ebay auctions correct? cause if so i'll prolly pick one up from ebay in about a week or so...also would the schulze 18.61 i believe it's called be a good speedo or should i got for an mgm?

Dafni 10.05.2005 01:31 AM

Hi

for the 9L I would strongly suggest a BK Warrior 9920. They are currently out of stock, but Mike will get them in.
They have a nice price tag and can take a beating.

Thunderbruiser 10.05.2005 05:22 AM

thanks

RC-Monster Mike 10.05.2005 09:31 PM

The warriors should be in stock by the middle of next week! Finally!
Yes, there is also an E-Bay store - RC-Monster Hobbies

Thunderbruiser 10.05.2005 11:04 PM

cool i hope to get em next week...got a savage and maxx to pay for

Thunderbruiser 10.26.2005 04:45 PM

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWN:IT

would this be ok? i only won it cause it's cheap and have heard good things in the past about them....this will be used until i get the proper setup with warrior bk

RC-Monster Mike 10.26.2005 06:06 PM

Not for th thunder king! Simply not enough and would probably blow up in no time.

here are the stats....and um really? why the truck is just too big or what?

are any of those stats good?

RC-Monster Mike 10.26.2005 06:26 PM

The truck is too big. Those specs suggest that it is most efficient at 10 amps, which is not even close to what you need. 12 cells times 10 amps is similar power to a 27 turn stock motor, which will be a slug in your big truck.

Thunderbruiser 10.26.2005 08:30 PM

haha so i need a more powerful draw motor that sucks....so i basically wasted $80 some buck i;'ll just relist it after receiveing

Thunderbruiser 12.05.2005 02:34 AM

lehner xl3100 any good>?

squeeforever 12.05.2005 06:06 PM

how heavy is the truck? it would have to be fairly light.

Thunderbruiser 12.05.2005 09:55 PM

lighter than a t-maxx...no matter didn't win motor but i won the esc for $199 shipped LOL basically $200

Thunderbruiser 02.09.2006 06:01 AM

hey guys which shaft should i purchase? on the motors?

dabid 02.09.2006 05:02 PM

I'd go for the 5mm, just for durability reasons.

Thunderbruiser 02.10.2006 01:43 AM

ok cool

well i decided to not go too powerful in fear the tranny will rip apart...and i bought the hv maxx sys now i just need to find the proper gearing..i am not sure what stock gearing is but i need to find out and start from there

coolhandcountry 02.22.2006 08:48 PM

From my experence with the hv maxx. It seems to like gearing low. It is only a 380 size rotor in it.

Thunderbruiser 02.22.2006 10:41 PM

oh ok...well it's just that i fear this tranny can't hold up to the high powered brushless setups!

coolhandcountry 02.22.2006 11:16 PM

do you have an idea of internal ratio or something. Maybe we can help out. What about the weight of car to?

Thunderbruiser 02.23.2006 02:38 AM

no i don't but i can figure it out and i'll post my findings.....i know it weighs less than an emaxx or at least i think lol

Thunderbruiser 02.25.2006 04:10 AM

I am gonna do some grinding on the motor mount to adjust and from what the guy at the hobby shop said the gear is 32 pitch

GeeReg 06.19.2006 08:06 PM

I thought I would bring this back instead of starting a new one. I'm thinking about converting my Baja King also, but I only want to use 8 cells (my chargers's limit). Is this a bad idea? I was thinking an 8L, as that would put me at ~30,000 rpm. Will runtime suck with an 8L or a 7L? Is it going to be slow? Previously it had a brushed ESC with dual stock 27t motors on 8 cells but the ESC went. So, my other option is just to get a Super Rooster off eBay and leave it alone. Thoughts?

*edit* Maybe a Lehner XL3600? I wasn't planning on spending that much though.

Thunderbruiser 06.19.2006 09:54 PM

TRUST me that truck is not worthy.....it takes a lot of tranny mods to even begin to prepair it.........I think you should just try and get an e-maxx and do something with it

GeeReg 06.19.2006 10:31 PM

What mods can you even do to it? Did you have a lot of problems with yours? I was thinking of an e-maxx, but the truck has some nostalgia connected to it and I've had it for probably 15 years and love it, it's just slow and has crappy runtime with brushed.

Thunderbruiser 06.20.2006 01:16 AM

well you'll have loads of slip....mods are

using associated diff balls in the tranny two packs(this is supposed to increase the diff action)
Either Run Heavier Spring(so slipper will be tigter) or run rs4 hub and eliminate slipper all together....
I also hear you can use ofna diffs...but e-maxx would work cause it's 32pitch gears for more options
also you'd prolly wanna modify your motor plate

GeeReg 06.20.2006 07:57 AM

Hmm, I don't know if I want to start screwing with a truck whose parts are so rare. Maybe I could lock the slipper somehow? Do the actual gears hold up though and it's just the slipper that causes problems? Also, why does the motor plate need to be modified?

Thunderbruiser 06.20.2006 02:56 PM

well either way the associated pegs are a great investment...you can try and lock...my problem was excessive slip and i mean a lot of slip...the slipper just doesn't press very tightly, motor plate mod so that you can have more angles just incase you need to gear down or up you know what i mean? and you can prolly mod an e-maxx slipper unit on there some how...that would give you more gearing choices!

GeeReg 06.20.2006 04:31 PM

Hmm, it doesn't sound too bad, thanks for the tips. Back to my original question, is running this on only 8 cells going to work well?

Thunderbruiser 06.20.2006 05:02 PM

should be and it'll have less weight i ran mine on 12 cells....it was an hv maxx i was having probs with though

GeeReg 06.21.2006 08:28 AM

Hmm, thanks. Does anyone else think an 7 or 8L is a good idea on 8 cells? I'm just wondering because usually people use a lot more cells in something this size.

Thunderbruiser 06.21.2006 05:20 PM

dont go to far outta range though cause the trucks tranny isn't built for it...i was thinking that maybe you could mod with e-maxx tranny part(basically upper input shaft and run strobe slipper setup....that might work

jhautz 06.21.2006 07:40 PM

If like you said, your chargers limit is 8 cell an thats why you want to run only 8 cells, why not just run two 6 cell packs in series and then you will have a 12 cell setup. Much better for a monster size truck. Plus it opens up all of the moter/esc options then.

GeeReg 06.21.2006 08:21 PM

Well I don't need this thing to fly or anything, so I don't know if I'd really destroy the transmission. I don't know how weak it is though. I wanted to avoid dual packs because then wait time doubles when charging. It may be my only choice though.

Thunderbruiser 06.21.2006 09:56 PM

the rest of it isn't bad just the transmission..I've done some super flips and such and i've had no problems...
