XL5 + Titan + 3s = ?

Would the XL5 esc and the Titan 12t motor be able to handle 3s? I believe that that Matthew_Armeni posted that it could- Thoughts?

TDC57 07.07.2008 12:37 AM

I think so!, 3s is the max i read that somewhere before...:rules:

BL_RV0 07.07.2008 12:38 AM

Is there any videos?

TDC57 07.07.2008 12:49 AM

Your best bet is to search the Traxxas site, you will find what your looking for..:yes:

Good luck...

= Smoke.

I'm guessing but it's an educated one.

BL_RV0 07.07.2008 12:56 AM

I believe Linc said ot could be done.

I know the titan 12t can easily handle 3s, I have them running in a few vehicles like that. I have not run an xl5 esc on more than 8 cells nimh yet, but that was a while ago. Someone here with a slash, think it was matthew a., ran it on 3s lipo, and I have seen a few slashes running 3s a123 packs. Might want to drop him a pm...

fromdaboz707 07.07.2008 02:05 AM

Yes it will there are guys at my track that do it in there slash but when it get slow then you got to stop or you will break you battery:surprised:

MTBikerTim 07.07.2008 02:14 AM

wow. people talk about the titan smoking on 8cells. I amazed it will take 3s. I suppose people aren't gearing down for the extra voltage.

You are probably right. I run a pair of them in a tamiya twin dagger and they work fine, the truck is geared for 35mph, and has plenty of power. I run a 3300mah 18c lipo and that does not get hot. Neither does the novak super duty esc. They are 20 dollar motors, can't expect too much out of them...

DRIFT_BUGGY 07.07.2008 02:33 AM

My Titan was flat out handling 7.2v nimh

Matthew_Armeni 07.07.2008 02:59 AM

3s is not a problem, just be sure to gear down and know you will shorten the lifespan of the motor. Also, there's no LVC on th XL5 so watch your battery.

I owned an xl-5, the motor lasted about 6 runs on 6c nimh packs.... on 3s it might last 6 minutes. the titans arent very long lasting/
but hey id rather blow up a 30 dollar titan then a 250 dollar neu

Mine lasted 4 and I was just using Venom 3000mah NIMH

BL_RV0 07.07.2008 10:58 AM

I smoked 2 of them as well. Matthew, what's the performance like on 3s?

Matthew_Armeni 07.07.2008 12:16 PM

I think the truck felt perfect on 3s with the stock motor, I also swapped in a 90t spur to gear down a little.
For a really awesome setup that is my favorite so far on the slash, I was running a MM with CC BEC, a Medusa 2200kv 50mm, a 40t Revo spur and a 11t mod1 pinion on 3s. The motor ran cool, battery was cool, ESC was cool, and performance was spot on. I then tried it on 4s, way too much power, it would wheelie!
