New version (V2) MMM has fan control

On the V2 MMM, the processor has the fan controlled -- so the processor will only turn the fan on when required.

So don't be surprised when the fan doesn't turn on when first powered up.

Excellent upgrade PDC!

traxxasrevony 07.18.2008 03:03 PM

thanks for the quick answer.

We were always planning on using the bullets -- just didn't get the production bullets in time for the first batch.

traxxasrevony 07.18.2008 03:11 PM

ahhh i see.

about the castle link stuff should i just call tech support to see if they can send it to me or could you do somthing about it?

snellemin 07.18.2008 03:19 PM

I don't like the idea of having bullet connectors at the battery input. For whatever reason they might come undone and shorting the batteries out.

I do like the new fan feature though.

We will send it to you. Don't worry. We just didn't have them in stock to send with the MMM, and we wanted to get some of them out for testing.

You can always solder directly to the female bullets... :)

traxxasrevony 07.18.2008 03:21 PM

alright sounds like a plan just was curious as to why i didnt get the same one back that i sent back with the v1

jnev 07.18.2008 03:22 PM

Thats great about the fan! So the male bullets will be built into the case?

traxxasrevony 07.18.2008 03:24 PM

females built into the case

cool beans.

What is the continuous amp rating on the ESC? Same like the industrial version?

I really don't know what you mean... we don't advertise a continuous amp rating...

Jeremy1976 07.18.2008 03:34 PM

Pdelcast: Sent you a PM.

sikeston34m 07.18.2008 03:35 PM

Hats off to you and Castle Creations. I'm sure this will be a huge success.

So the Fan kicks on at 140 degrees or so? Nice! This will prolong the life of the fan for sure and also save a small amount of energy for when it's not needed.

What kinda air flow does the fan provide? cfm?

I'm very happy with your production schedule and the success you're having. My MMM is in RC Monster's second batch of pre-orders somewhere.

I have a 14xl that I would like to try in my E Revo on 6S. There's a few outrunners here I would like to play around with also.

There is a spot on my E Revo Chassis that is just made for your new creation!

Thank you for being so informative.

How about a vehicle spec? Like the MMM can handle a certain weight vehicle at a certain speed with a certain motor? I know it is 1/8 scale compatible, and is doing fine in my revo.

ooooh, you are going to let me find out the hard way:whistle:

How about a program card of some sort.

redshift 07.18.2008 03:55 PM

I'd also like to see an actual number regarding cont. amps as opposed to "more than you can handle!"

We want numbers!

BrianG 07.18.2008 03:58 PM

Well, I must say I really like this! When/if my current V1 MMM gives up the ghost, I won't mind getting a new one with this feature. Until then, my modded "no fan" MMM will hopefully continue to work. I've never toasted an ESC yet :knock on wood:.

snellemin 07.18.2008 03:59 PM

If 6-7s A123 is going to pop the hiebiejiebie out of the MMM during a dragrace, I'll be upset.

You sir are CRAZY!

...but I'll cheer you on from the sidelines

JerryF504 07.18.2008 04:27 PM

Will the V2 bec still be set at 5.5 volts or did it get bumped up to 6?

lxmuff 07.18.2008 05:18 PM

Smart on the fan control.

Pedebeater 07.18.2008 05:30 PM

Hey Patrick, why is it that you are not releasing the amp ratings for the monster max? Just wondering...

Thank you,
PB

TexasSP 07.18.2008 05:34 PM

Very good indeed. This is one of my wishes come true now.

Dagger Thrasher 07.18.2008 05:50 PM

Wow, nice thinking! I really like the sounds of that idea. It should also serve as a rough guide to how hard the Monster's being pushed, without temping it. I'll wait a few weeks until you guys have the failed MMM replacements sent out, and then send in my unused one to be replaced with the V2. Fan control is a really nice feature!

BTW, has the fan been changed to a more durable unit by any chance?

Serum 07.19.2008 05:51 AM

nice feature Patrick.

Don't worry Guys, 10A is more than enough for a monstertruck..

DRIFT_BUGGY 07.19.2008 06:09 AM

Is the fan a different one than the V1 one. My V1 one is still going strong with no changes/mod to the fan at all

George16 07.19.2008 07:38 AM

How would I know if the fan is not working anymore? Or should I say, what if the fan fails to come on at 140*F and fries or thermals the MMM? Any built-in safety feature?

Good question I was wondering that myself.

KINGSKID 07.19.2008 10:45 AM

most of us won't be able to get the monster max to the point of thermalling. I run a 1.5d on 4s in a buggy and when the original fan failed the esc only got too 175 degrees. That was on a track in race type conditions in low 80's heat and a fifteen minute run. If your running a tamer motor or a slipper in a truck or truggy you may not need a fan at all.

auto2 07.19.2008 12:16 PM

wow i asked for a thermostat on the fan.:-) this way the fan will llast so much longer.....
so when should i order another mmm and send in my working perfect mmm for an updated one?

I don't know why cc make this case for the mmm :surprised:

why they don't use case like this:

I really hate cc mmm design :diablo:

q8-maxx 07.19.2008 07:46 PM

DRIFT_BUGGY sorry now you can see :)

KINGSKID 07.19.2008 08:01 PM

not sure of the venom, but cc would have to lower their quality standards to make the ecs fit the other cases!

Like you said,
Quote:

. What about the rest that can thermal the ESC? There is always the possibility and a newbie might take faiulre of the fan as an indication that the ESC is still cool even though it's not.

I don't have any problems (knock on wood) yet on my V1 on 1515 1Y on 6S. However, I will be exchanging it for the V2 once the backlog is over.

magman 07.19.2008 09:13 PM

BrianG did some mods to his fan and plans to not run a fan...curious as to how he makes out. I took my fan off of the esc and wired it to the rx and I am running an external bec so, we shall see what happens. I would be curious w/the v2 how temps would be w/out a fan on 4s then 5s
